    I know Angus's rig inside and out. To be truly authentic, you need a Phase 90, a Boss Metalzone (with the gain maxed out) a Clyde wah pedal, a Line 6 amp (the Spider will do nicely) and a Behringer delay pedal, with a Electro-Harmonix Cathedral reverb box to smooth it all out. See? I told you I was an expert. Did I miss anything?

    • @zxkazuki

      you forgot the joyo overdrive to boost the metalzone :)

      What you need is a Gibson SG, a JTM45, and a Schaffer Vega replica. Simples.

    As I'm watching this, Malcolm died a few months ago, it's pretty sad especially that he fell victim to dementia but I'm sure he would love to know that his music will carry on and be known for generations. Rest in peace, one of the greatest rhythm guitarists ever.

  • @scaredypicker
    @scaredypicker 8 ปีที่แล้ว +107

    The most important thing to get right with ACDC's tone is just turning a valve amp up high, and using a humbucker plugged straight into it with minimal gain. If you turn it up high enough, the amp will start to break up naturally on its own. A lot of people don't realise how clean Angus and Macolm have played their guitars over the years... It's just really, really loud! :D
    It would also be really cool to see you guys do Billy Gibbons/ZZ Top ;)

    • @yanneckmock1214
      @yanneckmock1214 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +scaredypicker In fact, Angus uses the Schaffe-Vega, which compresses and expands his tone (In the 70s it was a Wireless Device), and his Amp gets really boosted. The Powerage Album has some really Overdriven Songs, compared to earlier Albums.

    • @EventHorizonPrdctns
      @EventHorizonPrdctns 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +scaredypicker this strategy is so true it actually worked just as well with my Marshal MG 80 combo back in the day through my Les Paul studio. Any good solid state amp (not digital or modelling) will pull that off nicely because at low gain there's still enough dynamics coming through, and that's half of Angus' tone.

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're wrong. On many albums Angus has really distorted sound. Malcolm too. While playing live, especially in Highway era, Angus had super distorted sound, Malcolm minimaly. Let's listen to some live albums...

    • @ghfdt368
      @ghfdt368 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +scaredypicker Generally you are correct, But they have used distortion before especially in earlier albums and some live performances for various reasons. The important thing if you use distortion just a small amount and it sounds very close to AC/DC. The biggest secret though is picking. Malcolm young plays and picks very hard on the chords and notes which also gives them the distinctive sound.

    • @Diax1324
      @Diax1324 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Low gain, high natural distortion. Malcolm has been using a specific wireless device which adds lots of fuzzy nasty hairy sound for decades, and that's the secret to his extremely touchy sound.

    All in all pretty good stuff for giving folks an idea of good gear at pretty low costs to achieve good results. one thing I,ve noticed over the years and its probably the same with a lot of good players its not all about the gear its a lot about there style and technique and that cant be bought.Couple of pointers for DC as stated by some people before its high volume not so much gain but also a slight oversight I think you made is Malchom and Angus's parts/riff's do differ a lot which is were a lot of the dynamics of there overall sound comes from.Angus will play more of a power chorded riff with a bit more gain whilst Malc swaps between a more choppy riff to jangly chords which ring through better with his more trebly and less gained sound other wise it all just starts to sound like mush!And its how there able to lock there parts together with the two complementary styles and sounds which is where the smaller details are found.Rock on...........

    I give this video a solid 7.5/10, but apparently I'm the only one who was a little offended at the solo at the end. Some solos can be improvised, some by a lot and some by a little, but Angus' solos on the classics like Hells Bells, Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Highway To Hell, are like mini songs themselves and shouldn't be changed except the slightest little bits while staying true to the original concept/melody.

    I was never much of an AC/DC fan. Not because I didn't like them, but because radio only played 2 or 3 of their songs and I got tired of them. But learning guitar has given me a new appreciation for their music.
    Was really hoping to hear you guys do Hell's Bells.

      they should try it BY busting the bank but unfortunately they can't get the DG335 so they'll most likely get an ES335 or something that's like that with a Mesa Boogie Double Rectifier
      for Chris this time they will hopefully use his Telecaster

    Great series...This one was awesome! It was great to hear the Gretsch along side the SG. Not only are showing someone's tone, but also how it works into the mix. I wouldn't instinctively choose the Grestch tone for playing rhythm, but it works so great the the SG. I'm sold! Now I want a Grestch to add to the mix. It's like the Eagles with the Telecaster-Les Paul mix, two different sounds that work well together. Would love to see more of the 2 players variation videos. Great job guys...Thanks

  • @pablofichaje

    Bass part (that guy, i can't remember the name)
    -some vintage fat sounding bass rig, whatever you want
    -okkkkk i'll put something. Cliff Williams used Gibson Ripper for a thick tone in the 70s and Thunderbird in the 80s. Nowadays, he plays Stingray, that thick bass tone but a little more definition. Your AC DC not busting the bank bass is Musicman SUB Stingray
    -AMPEG
    Drum part (you know, that other guy)
    -The only special think you need is a extra 18x16 or similar huge floor tom to some effects like the THUNDER. Also Paiste

    Great video guys. It's really great to see both guitarists in a band being considered. I think Joe Perry and Brad Whitford would be a great idea as neither of them are strictly lead or rhythm. Both of them are notorious tone hounds. Anyway, thanks for the video.

    I have a second hand 2009 model of SG Special that I picked up for 450 quid. Its fucking phenomenal, feels great to play and the tone is sublime when you roll the neck humbucker off to about half on a crunchy channel. I play mostly blues music and even through the shitty amp I have I can get some good tones. Gonna get a new amp soon though and cant wait to see what happens when the SG is put into some tubes breaking up

      Heavy Gauge I've found that you can get a very close tone with an MG50FX, Fulltone GT-500 Pedal, and an SG Standard (I'm using a 2016 Standard T, neck pickup sounds closer to Angus than the Bridge). All of this cost about $1500. SG for $1200, pedal for ~$120, MG50FX for $200 (All USD).
