After the train went through, April was probably whining because the rails were probably still vibrating. Animals are very sensitive to ground vibrations (they react before earthquakes, too).
Yep. My dog is terrified of storms and she starts shaking and whining up to an hour before and after a storm. We never have to check the weather!

Well yeah I totally forgot about that. when I was a kid in the '80s and then in the '90s me and my friends used to hang around the railroad tracks in Pennsylvania period back then Conrail operated because the the railroad had went bankrupt. And sometimes if the conditions were right even before the train was near you the tracks would make this vibrating tingling sound.
And I remember we used to put our ear on the tracks to see if we could hear it coming before you could even see it

The extra rails on bridges is In order to steer the vehicle reasonably straight when derailing and to avoid damage to the bridge or the train leaving the bridge completely,

Those extra rails on the bridge are check rails. God forbid the train derails on the bridge they will prevent the derailed cars from wandering off the side of the bridge
April is so brave! From a vet perspective, she should be wearing a good pair of dog shoes and be kept away from spiders.

Well, April has one adventurous life in front of her ! I forgot how much fun it is having a dog - I had a Jack Russell and she went with me everywhere, and she loved it. They know to trust you, and the bond is incredible. I lost her 20 years ago, and still miss her every day. Thanks for another great video - take care and have fun :-)
That's the type of dog I'm planning to own next. There's so much training I want to do with it, I'm hoping that it will channel a lot of energy away from destructive behaviors.

Yep, America is a very large chunk of wild, open land. We sometimes like to think we've tamed it all, but in reality, our lands could easily support three times our population (around 1 billion). Still plenty of land left to conquer.

There is something strangely interesting about water being let loose after an unblock and you do it with enthusiasm. Its great entertainment. As for the pup....don't forget a treat when shes been brave!! (I needed one after watching the culvert walk!!!)

I actually like the older special trains. My grandfather worked for the Reading Railroad and then Conrail for a few years after the takeover. Thank you for showing the train.

Fun fact about trestles: The extra set of rails in the middle of the standard gauge is a safeguard in an attempt to keep derailed cars upright. If a car derails and the trucks (wheels) are rolling along the ground, those extra rails will attempt to keep them rolling straight so they don't turn and roll off the side of the bridge span.

The more experience April gets being in places like this and seeing you go through it the more she should eventually will get used to it. :) It's more of a confidence thing and only being a pup they are curious and nervous at some new big stuff that looks dark and spooky. XD Especially when she gets bigger it will be better.
Yupper. Dark scary tunnels are dark and scary for newly spawned dogs. I had one that was scared of the beach.

That culvert was so cool (except for the spiders)! And of course April is adorable! Maybe you can look into getting hiking booties for her to help protect her paws when you’re going to these adventurous places 😊 I work as a vet assistant and dog kennel tech and we see lots of toenail issues, cut up paw pads, raw paw pads from abrasion, and dogs stepping on stuff that stabs into their feet.
Some spiders are harmless to humans but their bite could be deadly to dogs.

I think her feet hurt from walking on sharp rocks in the culvert. Water makes foot pads soft. Rocks bruise soft foot pads. My 2 cents, I could be wrong . Loved the vid. Dog is precious. Thank you post.
None of those rocks were sharp they are all around made Smooth by the river

Dude, I have to tell you we watch every single one of your new videos from beginning to end. I'm not really sure why, but they're the most fascinating thing for some reason and evidently, we can't get enough of them. It's like therapeutic hypnosis.
I have to know though, why on earth drains and culverts? It's such a specific and odd hobby/fascination to have and I'm genuinely just curious how on earth that came to be for you. It would add so much value to my enjoyment of your videos to finally have a definitive answer to this question!

Fascinating tunnel and brilliant old culvert. You should research how they built these tunnels in the Victorian times it's very interesting indeed and I'm sure you'd appreciate the workmanship that goes into them. The culvert construction will have been built using similar methods I would have thought, but on an open cast basis judging by the erosion into the underlying granite shale half way though. Excellent adventure, keep up the great content.

Great video and footage post 10 looks like the whole entire culvert needs to be replaced and that's pretty awesome that you caught a train and hopefully I'll be able to come up here sometime in the future and see some trains come out of the hoosac tunnel and get some on video for the first time

5:00 Yikes! There could be a cavern under the floor of the culvert where the water disappears!
10:50 The retaining wall on the track side is incompetently repaired; the mortar and mesh applied over the stone is water tight which inhibits the flow of water through the wall and into the stream. Water is likely travelling down the earthen side of the wall and entering the stream from the bottom - which is why it hasn't been pushed over already. Should have been fixed by digging out the earth side of the wall in adding 3/4 stone back-fill. Weight of trains likely caused the initial problem.
That was a pretty cool video I enjoyed the covert period and that train was pretty wild too from the fifties. Streamline engine.
