    The section you started at near Readsboro is about 12 minutes from my house. I'd done a quick look when I first moved to the area and always intended to go back for more in depth research. Given what you found, it's now definitely high on my list when Spring comes... Thanks for the great tour.

    The station in Wilmington still exists as a private residence. It’s the brown building up behind the propane yard! The building appears to have undergone some changes but it’s still all there down depot street

    That 'blue silo thing' is probably a surge tower for the hydro system. I'm not quite sure where you are there, but when I lived nearby, they were used near the tunnels where water came in from Harriman to the old cooling lake for Yankee Rowe. In the WWI era there was a mine and processing facility near there for carbide(?), which was a special material used to fire miners lamps, and a bunch of old beehive charcoal ovens. IIRC, they were alongside the steep mountainside on the east bank of the river, with the main road on the west. Also, I was told the RR was used to clear stone from the tunnel mouth as it was being built.

      Yes, I did find out it was a water surge tower. Thanks! I'm glad you watched and enjoyed....memories!

    • @mikep3226
      @mikep3226 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it was, and that means the lower building (where the spur went to) was the actual power generation plant for Harriman Dam. That spur was used to get the generators and other huge pieces of equipment down to the plant during construction.

    Very little to nothing exists of the original facilities at the readsboro yard. The yard was located on the eastern side of the river on the location of depot street. The engine house you found was apart of the Readsboro Chair Company’s facility. I believe it may have been a wood storage building.

    Great video of these abandoned railroad tracks from the Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington Railroad. It might have been a shame that they discontinued trains here and even discontinued the railroad leaving the tracks where they are just rotting away. It’s also a beautiful railroad. It would be cool if it’s turned into a heritage railroad to be honest. There are a few railroad equipment preserved, but there are two other steam locomotives that could’ve been preserved too since they were used in excursion service back in the 1930s. Those are No. 21 and No. 5. Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington Railroad No. 21 could’ve been in operation at the Black River & Western Railroad in Ringoes, New Jersey. And Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington Railroad No. 5 could’ve been in operation at the Colebrookdale Railroad in Boyertown, Pennsylvania.

    Often times streetcar interurban lines paralleled railroad right-of-ways….possibly?

    • @lostrailbeds8289
      @lostrailbeds8289  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't think that's the case here though.

    • @mikep3226
      @mikep3226 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For quite a while in the earliest days of the Hoot, Toot, and Whistle it actually operated in much the same way as interurbans, but without any "urban" it ran short 1 and 2 car trains with little engines to carry passengers up and down the river.

    Next time you measure gauge do it inside of the railhead to railhead thats the proper way not outside to outside.
