  • Performed by the Italian trumpeter Michele Lacerenza (1922-1989), this is the soundtrack of the final sequence of one of the most famous westerns of all time, 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' (1966), starring Clint Eastwood (1930), Lee Van Cleef (1925-1989) and Eli Wallach (1915-2014).
I wanted to make this video to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the making of this movie, one of the greatest westerns ever.
Check Andrea Giuffredi playing 'The Trio':
    • "Il Triello -The Trio ...
    Sergio Leone (1929-1989), director
Soundtrack composed and conducted by Ennio Morricone (1928-2020 - In Memorian)
    Michele Lacerenza, trumpet
    Bruno Battisti D'Amario, guitar
    Nicola Samale, flute
    Pierino Munari, percussion

Morricone in an interview talking about Michele Lacerenza:
"I proposed Michele Lacerenza, who in Rome, in the cinema, was going the most, a very good Pugliese who had been my colleague at the conservatory, but Sergio Leone wanted Nino Rosso, who was much more famous, because he had guessed some good records with songs where the trumpet alternated with his suggestive voice. I insisted and in the hall I managed to let Lacerenza play who did his job knowing that Leone did not want him. He played crying, I swear to you, he played crying, and given the condition, he put his soul into it ".
From that moment Sergio Leone chose Michele Lacerenza to play the trumpets in his movies

Morricone! The very name conjures up a magic that is unsurpassed. Who would have ever imagined that the soundtrack from a "mere spaghetti western" would stand the test of time? The selections as chosen need to be in a time capsule for generations to come to know that on this earth, walked an absolute genius who had to have been touched by the finger of God.

The most beautiful and dramatic piece of music of the whole “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” Soundtrack, and curiously enough and as far as I know, Ennio Morricone has never included it on his live concertos. He should!

      @MORTISu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

You're right, I've not heard it included in any of Ennio' concerts. Then again, I've not heard any of his music from the westerns in his concerts that featured the trumpet solos. I wonder if he never felt he could find a trumpet player good enough. Michele Lacerenza' trumpet was just too perfect.

Trumped player in high school band. Very difficult to play that part without messing it up with one small hicht. I could never do it..

      Tent to agree with @mortis.
When "the Extasy of gold" went live with Morricone but another soprano, You feel it's not "right" - even if the singer is as talented and up to range required.
I guess "the trio" simply can't be on spot live. Could be an excellent "cover", but not That sound.

Quanta arroganza in questi commenti. "De gustibus not disputandum" dice il proverbio latino.
