Thanks TPP for the many, many great tips here....esp the key chain charging "cable" thingy! I just got a solar phone charger, so this would be perfect to clip onto that to make sure I'm not caught without a charging cable. For your budget minded subscribers, may I suggest checking out ebay's listings of this and several other similar handy gadgets by searching "key chain charging cable"
I like your EDC. It's refreshing to come across one that's not 90% camo-covered tactical gear like many of the others on TH-cam. It's also nice when you have the option of carrying items in a bag that's with you almost everywhere you go. in my case I obviously can't carry a purse or handbag, but I'm a student so I carry a backpack that does the job. It makes for many more possibilities, especially when it's warm weather and coat pockets are not available.
Rebelkid1112 Thanks Rebelkid! A bag does make it easier to carry more than just the bare bones. One reason I like the winter is it's easier to just wear my coat and have all my essentials in the pockets - no bag required. Messenger bags are pretty much unisex so if a future job ever makes it hard to carry the backpack a messenger/briefcase can probably replace it :)
Very interesting. I used to carry a large hand bag, but then one day I said enough and now I carry a very small leather bag, about six inches wide, and five inches high and maybe four inches deep. If I can't fit it in there, then it don't go. As for me, just the basic stuff, cards, an ice card included, tiny bit of cash, phone, coins, pen, eye glass repair, hard candy, keys that clip on, a wipe, a tiny hand sanitizer, a band aide or two, tiny writing pad, meds (on key chain) lip balm, tiny lotion, lighter/matches, and a couple safty pins. I carry water bottle, can clip on or shoulder strap. I used to carry small knife but it always got me into trouble at government places. I have some things on the key chain too of course. If I need more than that, well, maybe I should not go out, is what think to my self. Everything in one place, small and not hard to manage. Life got so much easier when I stopped carrying a lot of stuff round with me just because I might need something. I like your key chain, and the winter pack. I keep a winter pack in my car, but I also add hand warmers to my hand bag in winter and a small pack of tissues, very small. Almost forgot, have a spare car key in my hand bag, in case I lock me out, my hand bag never get's left behind, it stays on my shoulder, it's so small.
ancientmum You have a good system. Carrying a spare key is a good idea! I don't have one in my EDC but have left a spare at 2 different friends houses who live within a mile of me. It would probably be smart to add one when I am carrying a bag. I haven't gotten to the point that if I need more than my basics maybe I shouldn't go out, but I really like the sentiment :) I'm happy that my 'must haves' will generally fit into my pockets and I can leave the bag at home if I want to travel light. But if the day is going to be more complicated or I am doing specific things, I can take a bag and add the next layer.
The Peaceful Prepper I have what may be a rather odd question for you and your followers: how do you know what to carry? Was it a learning experience or a 'what if' thought process? I carry a backpack separately from my 'purse' that hold pouches of all shapes and sizes. Between my 2bags, I have 1 pouch with cords for phone, tablet(s), a flashdrive, spare lighter adapter for the car. 1 has various medical supplies that I may require (wrist and knee braces, medical eye drops, aspirin, and smaller versions of any regular prescribed meds). I have a pouch with dental supplies and one with spare undies, socks. And one with bath and personal hygiene supplies. I also always have a writing pad, pen permanent marker, spare lighter. Hair ties, ipod and headphones. Wallet, id, cards. I started carrying mst of this before I saw or heard about edc and prepper community.
Shy 2015 Sounds like you carry a "bug out bag" along with your everyday carry purse. A bug out bag is a sort of grab it and go, no time to pack sort of thing. I have one of those by the door but I don't carry it with me everywhere. I used to keep it in my car because I was in my car a lot. Got also a first aid kit in my car along with a bag for car emergency. If I'm not going far, all I really need is in my little everyday carry purse, don't really need any thing else. Well, I do carry water too, and/or have it in my car. Maybe if I lived way out in the country, I might have a different EDC. Or if I had the ability to use and carry a gun I'd have that on me everyday. I have sort of makeshift self defense stuff on my key ring. For me, the greatest self defense for everyday is a confident attitude and some good common sense. I don't carry a knife for defense because I wouldn't be able to use it before the other person could take it from me and use it on me. If I lived in the country, by grab and go bag would also be different, but I do live in a city. What you carry with you is what you need, not any one else, it's always personal to your needs. You wouldn't carry around what I would carry around. You wouldn't need some of my stuff. However, some people feel a need to carry little things for survival, you know, in case the world starts coming to an end all of a sudden sort of thing. I figure if that happens, no matter what I have on me, it's not going to matter much in the city. The only thing then of any real use would perhaps be a gun.
ancientmum I guess I do carry a bug out bag. I have a knife. And pepper spray on my keyring for self defense. I am also looking into gun safety/shooting lessons with trained pros. I carpool to and from work and spend considerable time alone in a questionable neighborhood, so my bag(s) are necessary as I never know if or when I may need. I can throw necessities in my daily pack for short trips, but for all day, its my security. Maybe a smaller bag to leave at work, one for car? I always have a water bottle and usually a snack or two just in case. I appreciate you response.
Shy 2015 I don't think that's an odd question but I imagine different people would answer it differently. I can only speak for myself. For me it is a combination of carrying what I use and using a "what if" process to think about what else might be useful. But for my edc I try to focus on what I actually use rather than a lot of "what ifs" since it is primarily meant to just make my everyday life go more smoothly and I don't like to carry a lot of extras. I enjoy seeing what others carry and take ideas from other people's videos but if I don't find myself actually using it I won't keep carrying it. The exceptions to that are my whistle, in case of emergency card and self defense items which I fortunately never had to use but continue to carry just in case. When it comes to supplies that are primarily geared towards an emergency, like my bug out bag, then it is designed totally around what if and trying to put together a kit that seems like the most "sensible" for the types of situations I think are likely in my area and for my circumstance. I agree with +ancientmum that our edc or bug out bag or any type of supplies are personal to our own needs and situation. Like ancient mum, I live in a city so carrying around typical "survival" gear which tends to be focused on surviving in the wilderness doesn't make sense for my everyday use. If I lived in a rural environment and could find stuck somewhere outside it would make sense to have those type of basic survival supplies. It sounds like you are well supplied to meet your needs with what you carry everyday. How did you decide to carry what you do?
Yep, there's that ResQme, it is on my list to get! LOVE those little folding eyeglasses! The Winter EDC was a good video, and I had forgotten that I wanted to put one of those together to supplement my "emergency coat" in both cars. Glad you mentioned it again. These videos are really intriguing! :-) Tina
Pecan Corner I just saw Mouse Toes video and it looks like the ResQme comes in many colors now! Although I like your magnifiers, I was looking around and I think and I've collected quite a few folding glasses over the years, LOL. They are all fine for short term wear but those are actually comfortable and I can use them to read for quite a while. Thanks Tina
My biggest eyeglass problem is breaking them. I started out buying cute ones with hand-painted frames to match different outfits... now I am down to whatever is on clearance at the dollar store that is strong enough LOL Have a great day!
TFS..I carry a lot of the things you do but I also carry tissues, gum, pantiliners, Tide to Go stick, umbrella, hair things, water as well as the usual knives, pepper spray, flashlight or two, cosmetics and candy. Lol, my purse is busting at the seams. 😀😂
I realized also from your video that I did not include twine or rope in my EDC. I do have fishing line in that mini fishing kit and I have tape I could use, but nothing seriously strong. I just got a small, small, small roll of duct tape in today and could use that but I think I need to look into additional twine.
There are definitely a lot of uses for twine. I like my cute little spool but I have to admit I rarely use it and when I do I am usually at home and have lots of other cordage around anyway, LOL.
Very impressive Peace; you got it together. I don't carry a murse and I don't like things hanging on my belt. I'm a pockets only guy so >small< is a much favored attribute with my edc. Therefore, I'd appreciate a bit more info about the whistle, capsule, and the small clear thumb light that hang loose from the Keysmart. I'm always trying to reduce pocket bulk while retaining capability. Great vid. Thanks for sharing. Btw, before I typed this I reviewed your key chain update vid and noticed what you said about putting a whistle in the keysmart. My response to that is how quickly could you get to the whistle in that configuration? Sometimes when you need a whistle, fractions of a second count.
05generic Thanks, 05. I think your point about the whistle in the keysmart is right on. I was so focused on keeping everything compact that I wasn't thinking about how I use it, lol. The thumb light is something I got in a Christmas stocking 15-25 years ago, lol. I didn't use if for years but it is still working. I'm not sure how much longer it will last. There are a lot of thumb lights that look pretty much the same on amazon that often come in a 10pack for cheap. I don't know if they are the same quality. I got the capsules off amazon they have several sizes but I have the small: amazon.com/gp/product/B001167V9U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I really like my current keychain set up. I almost always keep it in a front pocket (when I'm wearing casual pants) and find it really comfortable.
The Peaceful Prepper You're welcome Peace, and thanks for the info and link. It appears you're very skilled at picking the right Chinese gadgets on Amazon lol. I ordered two pill capsules (both the same, cheap) about 3 weeks ago from Amazon and when they finally arrive I'll find out if they are usable or junk. I thought perhaps you found a more reliable source. I looked for one locally but they were always too large or tiny and, frankly, over priced for the level of quality. I added the ones at your provided link (thanks again) to a wish list for probable future order if the ones I selected don't work out. I have a set of three aluminum whistles on an Amazon wish list and will probably order them.
The capsule link I gave you are definitely for cheap feeling capsules but they've worked fine for me so far. They have a small o-ring but I don't really expect them to be waterproof. They haven't fallen apart on me and I guess that's all I really hope for :) I don't think I have any skill at picking out cheap gadgets on line but I must get lucky because I mostly go by price and glance at the reviews. Good luck with your capsule order :)
05generic I've made a major upgrade to my pill fob!! My Rx just changed and my pills no longer fit in the capsule I had. Since it is aluminum, I always wrapped my pills in plastic before putting them in. I decided to look for a stainless steel fob so I wouldn't be concerned about it leaching into the pills. I just received my GUS pill fob,@videos/search?q=afsy+60+SELF+RESCUE+OXYGEN+GENERATING+RESPIRATOR&FORM=HDRSC3. It is way more expensive ($21 for one) but it is very good quality. The mini is slightly shorter but just a little wider than the cheap capsule and with a flat bottom. So now I can put 4 regular size pills in it and they lay flat (with the other I needed to angle them). They have a range of sizes but the mini seems perfect for minimizing bulk on a keychain. If you aren't happy with the ones you ordered and want to get something really high quality (but expensive) I recommend this. For me it is worth it in order to fit my daily Rx and not worry about aluminum. I'll keep using the cheap fobs for anything that I am not planning on ingesting :)
Ibpn I used to have to go into a court building fairly regularly for work but haven't needed to since I started carrying this EDC. My old EDC included a lot of files and work papers and no tools at all. I'm not sure but I think everything but the pouch would be ok. I used to carry a stainless steel water bottle around and I couldn't take that into one court house. Fortunately the guards were really nice and held it for me until I left.
+lambchopxoxo I'm not the original poster of the comment you replied to, but I'm looking at the Tumi website and that particular wallet isn't showing up: do you know the name of that particular Tumi wallet?
Needs not be clear... I carry my house keys in a keyholder, and the pass behind the keys. Most readers are powerful enough to read through canvas. I carry keyholder in a pocket, and it's easy to pull out and put into the reader. Make sure you keep credit/debit cards somewhere else.
I only commented cause I was linked to the comments list: is your keyholder a metal thing like PeacefulPrepper's KeySmart here or is it one of those leather pockets for keys?
Two options I know is to get a separate leather ID holder with a clear opening and leave the RFID PAYG transport card in that or get a small card holder (I have four transit RFID cards spread over places I visit regularly (North Yorkshire, City of York, West Yorkshire, Manchester) so that's what I do).
The Peaceful Prepper I only carry minimum. Cards money phone. Lighter. I even travel minimal. What I can carry. Because you can find what you need, if something comes up. I have already survived the end of my old world. And have a new way of thinking and making due. And I am preparing and planing for another change.
Fantastic vid. Mrs BZH has now dumped her handbag on the floor and is now going to 'gal EDC' it. Your wise not to share you defence item. Not being able to carry a firearm in this part of Europe makes it a little harder. But we can carry, pepper spray, electric shock items & small telescopic batons for defence. Its a grey area for men but its OK for ladies. Mrs BZH thanks you and so do I : )
BZHprepper Glad it was helpful, especially for Mrs BZH. It is great to inspire someone to 'gal EDC' their bag, lol. Here, different towns and cities can have more restrictive carry laws than the state as a whole. The Boston area is pretty restrictive on what you can carry. A concealed carry permit is generally not available to anyone who doesn't carry a gun for their job. Interesting that the laws in your area make some items ok for women to carry and not for men. Thanks BZH
dseed Thanks dseed. I only compare similar items if I happen to own them but I don't go out of my way to buy extras. I'm trying to stick to my original intention which is to only show items that I would have bought anyway, so I"m not spending a extra money in order to do a youtube channel :-) I have seen some side by side reviews on line. What do you think of the key-bar?
I don't make videos but here is the fanny pack that I wear (medium size). www.corporatetravelsafety.com/catalog/rfid-blocking-security-waist-pack-with-organizer.html I also consider the shorts or pants I wear as part of my gear. (LA Police Gear cargo pants or shorts) I carry redundant gear (flashlight, med kit, knife, etc) on my person in case my pack is taken.
beahaven That looks like a good quality waist pack and the rfid is really a plus. Cargo pants can carry a lot. I like the idea of having some core gear on your person. Thanks beahaven
Nice EDC! Always great to see other women thinking about practical preparedness!
Thanks TPP for the many, many great tips here....esp the key chain charging "cable" thingy! I just got a solar phone charger, so this would be perfect to clip onto that to make sure I'm not caught without a charging cable.

Another great video and EDC. And you're 100% correct a lot of times our EDC could help someone that is in distress. Thanks for sharing.
Massachusetts Prepper Thanks MP
Great video and an important message to go along with it!
You have an excellent, well thought out edc.

please do a update for edc 2018
I really like the keychain set-up and I am looking to build one myself. Have you seen the Stowaway Tools from Klecker?
Some really great items! I especially love the key holder! That's great!
The Oily Prepper Thanks OP

LOL
Very cool, I like the USB Flashlight charger. Well thought out gear

05generic Thanks, 05. I think your point about the whistle in the keysmart is right on. I was so focused on keeping everything compact that I wasn't thinking about how I use it, lol.
The whistle is just a generic aluminum pea-less whistle. I may have paid $2-5 for it. If you search keychain whistle on amazon lots of different options come up.
The thumb light is something I got in a Christmas stocking 15-25 years ago, lol. I didn't use if for years but it is still working. I'm not sure how much longer it will last. I got the capsules off amazon they have several sizes but I have the small: amazon.com/gp/product/B001167V9U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I really like my current keychain set up.

Wonderful and amazing. Congratulations forma review. Thanks
good and comprehensive EDC kit. have you ever tried taking it into a federal building or somewhere that does security checks" thanks.
Ibpn I used to have to go into a court building fairly regularly for work but haven't needed to since I started carrying this EDC. I miss those mini toothbrushes. They aren’t available in Australia anymore.
I loooove your little purse!
Do a update for edc 2018! Please!
Could you share what brand wallet that is? I'm having a hard time finding one with outside clear pocket for my presto bus card.

That was well thought out for your needs.
TheEmptynester Thank you! I know kits aren't your usual type of video but I'd love to include an edc video from you in the playlist :)
The Peaceful Prepper
I only carry minimum. Cards money phone. Lighter. I even travel minimal. What I can carry. Because you can find what you need, if something comes up. I have already survived the end of my old world. And have a new way of thinking and making due. And I am preparing and planing for another change.
I appreciate that perspective on life, thanks
Kudos on your EDC, very helpful my friend, :)
Willows Garden Thanks so much
Fantastic vid.
Mrs BZH thanks you and so do I
: )
BZHprepper Glad it was helpful, especially for Mrs BZH. It is great to inspire someone to 'gal EDC' their bag, lol.
Here, different towns and cities can have more restrictive carry laws than the state as a whole. The Boston area is pretty restrictive on what you can carry. A concealed carry permit is generally not available to anyone who doesn't carry a gun for their job. Interesting that the laws in your area make some items ok for women to carry and not for men. Thanks BZH
ive got the key-bar in the mail, you tested that as well or sticking to the keysmart? good video btw
dseed Thanks dseed. I only compare similar items if I happen to own them but I don't go out of my way to buy extras. I'm trying to stick to my original intention which is to only show items that I would have bought anyway, so I"m not spending a extra money in order to do a youtube channel :-) I have seen some side by side reviews on line. What do you think of the key-bar?
have not made up my mind yet ;) but be sure to do a video of when I have. hehe
I look forward to it :-)
Any updates in 2022?
I don't make videos but here is the fanny pack that I wear (medium size). www.corporatetravelsafety.com/catalog/rfid-blocking-security-waist-pack-with-organizer.html
I also consider the shorts or pants I wear as part of my gear.
Excellent as always
