great video... just completed this on my 07 e250 ford van and it was spot on. i used 1/4 width bolts with nyloc locking washers , you need 7 of each. as for the lenght i used 3/4 length on all but could of used 2 that were 1/2 inch in length. the very bottom 2 bolts need to be 1/2 inch, if not the mechanism will hit it coming down and you wont be able to open the window all the way down. i see a couple comments below asking why the window doesnt open all the way and this is why. because i only had 3/4 bolts, i installed the bolts so the nuts were facing out , then once tightened i cut the extra length off with an angle grinder. there is also one bolt where you see him using a magnet to get the bolt from behind and i couldnt deal with that, so i used my trusty angle grinder to cut a little window in the metal , which made it so easy to install that bolt..theres also another bolt thats tricky and he says you can raise the window up and access through the speaker hole and that was indeed the best option... turned out great and took about 4 hrs...

I just replaced my driver side regulator today. Had the same issue with the window not going all the way down. I watched the video again and his did the same thing, stopped with about 2 inches to go. The problem is with the 2 bolts on the very bottom. The bolt on the right(driver side door. Passenger side door would be the left bolt.) is to long and the plastic part of the mechanism is hitting it. The bolt either needs to be shorter or needs to be turned around. And no I didn’t use one of the longer bolts. Works fine now.

Man that motor struggling to get window up. Too slow for a new motor.

Thanks for doing this video. Great job. It helped me get through this replacement. No one says how hard it is drilling out rivets though. That was a pain, and by far the hardest part.

Thanks so much for this video. I managed to shave about 3/8" off of the bottom bolts thereby providing clearance room for the plastic hubs on the tracks, enabling the window to lower completely. My kit had pressed-in nuts which made installation easier than what you went through. The most difficult part on mine: two internal rivets had about a 1/2" stud protruding and after cutting the studs off, getting a centered hole to then drill and bore was tedious. I'll be able to do this job in half the time next time. Thanks Again!

Air chisel with pointed tip bit works extremely well to knock out center of rivets as they are very tough. Way less chance of damaging the door too! CHEERS

  • @craigcarrillo
    @craigcarrillo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

The center pins on the rivets are made of hardened steel. Use a 1/8" punch to remove those center pins then then use a 1/4" drill the center of the rivet to remove.

Trying to figure out my window issue and why the cable is loose, the window motor is working (I think) but the video really helped me in taking off the door panel to my e150 cargo van. Thank you. When the weather warms up a bit more, I will try to tackle the motor replacement, thanks again. Subscribed.

Just did this and the hardest part was breaking out the old rivets. My advice is to use a big and sharp drill bit

  • @J__Day

Wow, those rivets were hard to drill out. I was not able to punch out the center pins at all because the whole door would just give out, but if you can find a good way to get the center pins out, do it, it's worth it. Maybe an easyout or Dremel grinder would have helped. Need sharp quality drill bit at least and lubrication.

I know why ford uses rivets. No issue with window coming all the way down.
Your video skips over some difficult steps.
TRQ why the two long bolts without placement instructions?

I replace the entire window regulator and motor assembly and the window goes up-and-down just fine. However, it does not go all the way down. Stuck about 2" or so before bottoming out. Any ideas why this would be? Seems like there isn't any adjustments to make

Same issue here. It’s for my van conversion so I’m just leaving it. Getting those rivets out was a doozie.

I had the same problem...wonder if the Dorman part isn't designed quite right? Works well otherwise, so I'm leaving it...dorman part design is really good and eliminates almost all fishing of nuts into difficult places.

Hardware you will need if your kit doesn't include them. From a comment below from Frank, "1/4 width bolts with nyloc locking washers , you need 7 of each. as for the lenght i used 3/4 length on all but could of used 2 that were 1/2 inch in length. the very bottom 2 bolts need to be 1/2 inch, if not the mechanism will hit it coming down and you wont be able to open the window all the way down."

Does the orientation of the motor make a difference? I put mine it thinking the holes did not line up. I put two bolts in it. The window will not roll up all the way. The only thing I can think of is the orientation of the motor..

This is the most ghetto POS engineering i've ever seen. I once replaced the motor assembly in a Honda Odyssey and if the motor failed it failed in a static position meaning your window simply wouldnt go up or down. With this Ford design I walked outside to see my work van window was magically open. When the internal cable mechanism fails the window drops down and theres nothing you can do to close it. Not even manually.
