Is there a way to make the document name dynamic? When I click on the template, doc opens, I fill in data and close it, he name will be Document... Can I ask if the "name can be changed to something like 'templateName_Author'
Very easy to understand, thank you! One follow-up question is there a way to edit/update the contents of the original file when I add the template by uploading it from my desktop?
Sure, when you click the '+ New' button within the library where you have stored your template, click 'Edit New Menu'. That will pop open a flyout menu on the right displaying your template. If you hover over that you will see three dots. Click the three dots and you will see an option to edit your template. Hope that helps!
Would this be also possible for page and news templates? I am searching for a way to provide some carefully designed templates for creating news and pages within our complete hub. As far as I have seen, Microsoft only allows us to store own templates as copies within each site-collection. But to get them there would be a lot of manual work and these copies wouldn‘t get updated by us. Thanks!
Thanks again for the high quality material! Creating templates is a cinch, but Is it just me, or is adding metadata variables within a Word document an exercise in frustration? For instance, embedding choice column metadata in a Word document often doesn't show all of the choice options, or the choice gets locked in when an item is selected so it can't be changed. Would you consider going a bit deeper into what can be done with templates?
Hi Raphael, you can set default values for the column in the column settings. You can also select a default value for a specific folder within a document library by going to Library Settings and then choosing the 'Column default value settings' option. Is that what you mean?
Hey TheBananisen, do you mean Org Asset Libraries? That is another great way to make templates (and other assets) available for sure. I didn't include it in this video as I would prefer to cover it in a separate video as the setup and concept would take a bit for me to explain as the scope is broader than documents (with my limited communication skills anyway! 😉). Also, it requires PowerShell so another topic which also requires a bit of carefully crafted instruction. But in short, yes absolutely. Great suggestion!
Your how to videos are truly the most engaging and well thought out videos! Love it. Please keep sharing more tips and hacks! Would love to know what application you are using to edit your videos!
Thanks so much for your kind words. Re video editing, up until recently I was using Adobe Premiere Pro but have recently swictched to using CapCut. Adobe is amazing but CapCut is just a bit quicker. You sacrifice some functionality but, for me, it's worth it in terms of speed to edit
Great tutorial, can you create a tutorial that covers creating a site template? It's not very clear how that can be done, specially if that button does not exist or is not showing in the site permissions panel.
Dear, perhaps you could leverage the content type fields inside the template, let people feed information in the document and then use those values inside the SPO to do something useful like calculations or triggering automations.
@@megaruler387 I have set up a set of Content types, used them in my library and for each I formed a Template (they are all for Word documents for the template is a dot file. to do this the dot file was stored in the library while being developed. Through the edit of the dot file and the quick parts and Document properties I get the full list of fields of the document type which is used inside the dot file to allow users to enter their data. When a document is created through the library using one of the declared document types, it transfers the saved property values into the library. Sorry for not being too thorough here but perhaps you can find existing videos for such a construction on TH-cam.

I think I'd need a priest if I was doing a video on MS Word. For me... it's a demon... we don't get on! 😉
Thanks for this video ! Could you specify quick part in your document using metadata and fill it automatically ?

Super underrated channel! Amazing content Dan!
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that! 😁
Wow again! Glad I found you, this is very interesting for me 😊 Many thanks 👍👍👍
Is it still not possible to create a template for OneNote notebooks with a custom content type?
Really great. I only knew up to level 4
Thanks Sarah!! 😁
Great video - what do you think of using the Org Asset for Office templates?

Thanks Keith!!😁

Thanks Sorobby. For sure, this one is on my list. It's a bit involved and PowerShell is required but I'll pull together a step by step
So good!!

Fantastic suggestion Nikos, I think that's a super suggestion for a video!
Can you elaborate? How would you set up a trigger like you described?
