The song is fictional written by bighit surrounding the flower smeraldo that bloomed in the La Citta di Smeraldo in Northern Italy. It narrates the story of a man who considered himself ugly and lived in a secluded castle. To protect himself and his heart from the cruelties that the world showered on him, he shut himself from everyone, only to find comfort in the smeraldos he grew in his garden. Soon after, he fell in love with a girl who would pluck the flowers from his garden but he never had the courage to confront her. Later, he realised that she had died, and his love and sincerity remained undelivered.

The Truth Untold is based on the Legend of the Smeraldo Flower.
The story of the Smeraldo dates back approximately to the 15th to 16th century and begins in a rural village in the northern parts of Italy. This village, called ‘La Città di smeraldo’ had a single, small, lone castle. In this castle lived a man with a very ugly appearance.
There are no details known about this man. It has been said that he is an illegitimate child of the Duke, an influential family of Florence, that the Duke fell in love with the gardener’s daughter and gave birth to an illegitimate child, that the man’s mother died while giving birth to him from excessive bleeding, that the Duke’s wife and children tried to kill the man, that the Duke then sent the man to escape into hiding. The rumours were plenty, but not one of them have been revealed as neither true nor false.
The man lived a lonely life in hiding in an obsolete world. Because he had received much hatred and criticism from his birth and growth, he did not open his heart to anyone, and if someone tried to approach him, he grew angry and hid. His only joy in life was growing flowers in his garden. Then, one day, a woman appeared near the man’s castle. The woman dressed in rags lifted her heels, jumped over the fence, and stole the flowers. At first, the man was furious and kept watch of his garden all night long. But in the moment that he dozed off, the woman picked the flowers and left once again. The same kind of night continued for a couple days, then the man pretended to doze off and watched as the woman came to the garden. He had developed a curiosity. Before he knew it, he found himself waiting for the woman. Then, one day, he followed behind her. In the place that he followed her to, with his body wrapped up in a cape, he came to know that the poor and frail woman was selling the flowers in order to make a living.
He wanted to help her. He wanted to teach her his way of growing flowers, and how to develop beautiful flowers. But, he could not show himself to her. She would be afraid of him, and it was obvious that she would not love his ugly appearance. As a result, all he could do was continue planting and growing flowers so that she would keep coming back.
The man decided that he would create a flower that did not exist in the world. He began to create a flower that the woman would be able to sell for a high price. The man stayed inside his castle and began to create the flower. After countless failed attempts, the man created a flower that did not exist in the world, and he filled his garden with this flower.
But from a certain point in time, the woman stopped making an appearance. No matter how long he waited, the woman did not appear in the garden. Worried, the man went down to the village with his face covered. But at that point, the woman had already died.

what makes BTS different from other boybands aside from making their own music is none of the members are sounds the same, they have their own pitch of voice and even the rap line have different flows and cadence when rapping. Putting these voices together as one group sounds amazingly phenomenon.

the song is more about how bts have been hiding themself "their ugly self" (refs to the mask, castle, hiding their true but flawed self) how they cannot face the person they love since it isnt really them and how they grapple with that, all the painful emotions that come with loving someone that loved you as well, but not for who you were,, and all the insecurities faced since u cant show them who u rly are since u dont love urself enough in the first place and u know they wont like u for who u rly are.

This song is from the "Love Yourself" era and kind of emphasizes the importance of loving yourself. The boys and their company made up their own variation of the Beauty and the Beast story to promote this song. However, there is not a happy ending to this story. Because of his low self-esteem, the "Beast" didn't show himself to the girl and, instead, decided to try and create a new flower for her. The girl had been coming into his garden and stealing flowers to sell. He thought that the new flower would allow her to charge more money because it was so unique. He filled his garden with the flowers, but she stopped coming before they bloomed. Eventually, he went looking for her, only to find out that she had died. If he hadn't been so convinced that she would reject him that he never actually approached her, then he might have been able to help her and prevented her death. It i the "truth untold" because he never told her how he felt about her. All of this, just to encourage people to love themselves.

To me, Jin's solo song, "Awake" live pours emotions. The words to the song are heart breaking, and Jin wrote it himself. Really recommend it.

“Every night is a good night with BTS.” Truer words were never spoken. On another note, one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever seen was a live performance of this song in one of their movies. It was a couple of years ago and they had been touring, their schedule was terrible, and they were exhausted. V had gotten sick and couldn’t sing. So the 4 of them stood on the stage with V voiceless, tears running down his face, and the others covering his part. He just looked so forlorn. I’m glad they are taking better care of themselves now. 😢
I agree about watching the live versions. You can focus more on them singing instead of the background music. Their vocals are impeccable.
James Arthur (British artist) is another excellent artist whose voice carries SO MUCH emotion. Yuuri (Japanese artist) is another artist I love for the emotion he is able to convey.

The fact that BTS live is better than album recordings is insane. Japanese concerts have the best sound quality, Korean concerts have the best camera work! BTS puts out official concerts filmed. Clips of those are best overall 👌
What a beautiful song. I’m still new to BTS , so thank you for showcasing songs I haven’t discovered yet. There is beauty in simplicity and this is it. V’s voice is unique and touching. ARMY have said: “The story behind The Truth Untold is called ‘La Città di Smeraldo’ {the emerald city}, which takes place in a small town in Italy in the 16th century.
This heartbreaking story is about an ‘ugly’ man who has locked himself into an ancient castle to hide himself from the world because he had received a lot of cruelty while growing up. Therefore, he tried to hide from people. The only thing that he confided in and loved was to plant flowers in his garden that surrounded the castle.
One day, a woman had trespassed into the garden and stolen a flower. The man was angry so he watched the garden from the castle all night. Unfortunately, when he slept the woman came again and stole another flower. Then after this happening for a few days, the man decided to fake his sleep and and watch the woman steal the flower. Without him knowing, he became more interested in the woman and began waiting for her to steal a flower every night.
This was until he followed her one day to the small town and found out that she was selling the flowers from his garden to earn her living. He wanted to help the woman so much but was afraid that she wouldn’t like him because of his ‘ugly’ appearance. So he thought the only way he could help was to keep growing the flowers in his garden for her to steal and sell on.
He decided that he wanted to create a flower that didn’t exist on the planet so that the woman could sell it for an expensive price. The Smeraldo flower.
The man tried many times to make the flower and after many tries, he finally created the Smeraldo flower and filled his garden with it. But the woman stopped coming. He waited and waited but he found out she had died.
Here is the story this song is based on:
According to the story, there once lived a man. He lived in a secluded castle in La Citta di smeraldo.
There is not much information about the man except that he was the ‘love child’ of the duke of Florence who fell in love with a poor gardener’s daughter. She passed away at childbirth due to excessive bleeding leaving the man alone in the world.
Being a child born out of wedlock, he was the source of misery to the wife and children of the duke, who tried to kill the poor boy. As a result, the duke sent him to a place further away.
There were many rumors, but none was revealed.
It is said the man alone hid in solitude at the old castle and wore a mask because he was very ‘ugly’. Probably because of all the hatred and jealousy he received as he lived, he didn’t open his heart to anyone. When anyone tried to approach him, he would hide away in anger and distrust.
He shut himself from the world. Both his body and his heart.
His only joy was to grow flowers in his garden.
It made him happy and peaceful.
But things took a beautiful turn. A turn which would be a moment of beauty within the memories at the corner of his head.
A turn that would leave a sorrowful scar his heart forever and bring in tears to his eyes.
Fate was playing on him.
One day, a girl appeared in front of him near the vicinity of his castle. She was in ragged clothes. As he watched, the girl picked up the heels of the garden fence, climbed over it, and stole some flowers.
The man was mad as a hornet at first. He was mad at her for stealing his precious flowers. He spent his whole night guarding the flowers. But in his brief moment of sleep, the girl picked up some flowers and ran away. Several nights continued to pass like that until the man pretended to be asleep and watched the girl go. He was curious.
Who was she? Why does she steal my blooming pretty flowers every night?
Without realizing it, the man waited for the girl and followed her one night. He disguised himself with a cloak and followed her.
After following her to a village, he realized why she stole flowers in his garden every night.
He found out that the girl sells these flowers because she is very poor and has no other way to provide a living for herself.
He felt very bad for her. Guilt filled him up.
The man wanted to help the girl. He wanted to teach her every method of growing flowers he knew. He wanted to teach her how to grow beautiful flowers.
He was slowly falling in love with her.
The man started growing many flowers for her and made sure they were of the best quality.
He wanted to show up in front of her. Tell her of his feelings towards her. But, he knew he could not show up in front of her.
She would be scared of him.
He must hide. Because he was ugly. She would not love his ugly appearance.
So he never got the courage to confront her
At the end, the only thing he could do was to grow and take care of the flowers so that she would keep coming to his garden.
With time, he decided to himself that he would grow the most expensive flower(the Smeraldo)for her to sell. That was the only way he would unveil his sincerity to her.
He locked himself in the castle.
After many attempts, he succeeded in making the flower. The flower was very beautiful. It was something that never existed in the world. Afterward, he filled his garden with the flower and waited till nightfall for the girl to return.
He waited and waited for the girl to come back to the garden to steal the flower. But the girl did not return. She was nowhere to be seen. No matter how much he waited, the girl wouldn’t return to his garden.
It made him anxious. He later visited the village he followed her to.
Unfortunately, he found out that the girl had died.

When you mentioned the feeling and emotion in this song, THIS is one of the reasons I think BTS resonates with so many people. Regardless of what genre they are performing, the listener can feel their genuineness and emotion. Even despite a possible language barrier. Personally, I think this is a big reason why they pushed ahead of their Kpop contemporaries to break out globally. Yes, there are other groups that are popular as well. But, for me, BTS will always be special because of their ability to connect emotionally with people through their music. The music isn't just about being catchy or trendy, it actually means something.
Sam Smith "Writings on the Wall" you mean its amazing, it gives me chills every time, the orchestra behind is so strong and feels you with emotion , and of course Sam Smiths vocals are awesome 💜

2019 I'm so excited to go to the Love Yourself concert at the Rose Bowl. Singing at the top of my lungs having the greatest time. I got to see Jungkook fly around the stadium singing Euphoria. Life was GREAT! Smiling from ear to ear, when the vocal line starts to sing, "The Truth Untold." Seeing & hearing the song is so powerful but seeing and hearing the song in concert, was more than I could take. I could feel the goosebumps rising. Then my nose started to swell. The minute they sang, "I still want you," it was a blood bath of TEARS. The song hit me like a mac truck. Every lyric went to the deepest part of my soul. I needed Kleenex BADLY! I had never experienced such emotion through music before. I was an emotion puddle. Then, Oh it's not over, they one, two punch you with the next song, which happens to be Outro Tear. I don't know if you ever read the words to Outro Tear, it's the other BTS song that also BREAKS ME! I was a mess, having my own personal moment with these lyrics that destroy me but also comfort me. This is going to sound crazy, but at that concert is the night I truly lived. I lived, what was the BEST night of my life. The emotions of that night will never be matched. My suggestion for the Vocal Line: Live in concert "House of Cards." Live version with English Subs.

This is a song for themselves dealing with coping with fame and imposter syndrome. I think by default all of BTS’s music is an inward look, rather than addressed ‘to’ someone. This is especially true for all of the Love Yourself trilogy.

I feel BTS’ love/break-up songs have so much feeling because their love lives are so secret, in that they don’t date publicly, so any love/heartache they feel they keep to themselves & their members, and their lyrics. Even the dumpling argument between V and Jimin made 2 great songs. ‘4 o’clock’ & ‘Friends’
Also, many of their love song they do make with ARMY in mind because they truly love their fan base. Korean idols relationship with their fandoms isn’t like anything I’ve seen here in the US. If ARMY wasn’t so active would BTS have made it so big outside of Korea? On your other band videos are those fans as helpful/engaging as ARMY has been? Steve Aoki was the producer of this song, but also has credits within the composition and writing team.
We know that he is one of the most recognized DJs, but he is also known for being a musician and producer (he has his own record company).
In addition to Mic Drop and this song, there is a third collaboration that is Waste it on me that is part of one of Aoki's albums, and that is really the first BTS song in English but it is not from his discography.
