I think the king needs to be a hero unit. Maybe even random or civ specific hero unit would mix it up. If the king had decent HP and a decent attack there would be a lot of incentive to use it.
A suggestion: instead of lots of gold for killing a king, you get some money for each point of damage to a king. That way you can't delete at 5hp to mess with the opponent, and whoever does the most damage gets the most reward.
Loathe drama was real towards the latter half of the game. The way Green screamed and typed while getting nuked by kings was hilarious. Love T90’s laughter when it was happen8ng. Grey had some sick moves, hiding king in forest by onaging, gate locking and building wonder. As T90 said, my favorite moment was when Green got nuked. The wonder and king bonuses and incentives are great. Gg wp!
@T90Official If there are two Kings, it can't be exploding Kings because then people will just use their first King as a weapon, others will retaliate, and there will be eight massive explosions before anyone reaches Castle Age. Could be hilarious actually, but might be a good idea to switch off the explosion aspect.
@@danielk5780 I recall there being multiple Kings, but were they also exploding? I don't think so. But I'd change my mind with the link to such a video.
@@offsdexter2 the first sound is like "Ch" in "chimney" (it's softer, but close enough). And now it's downhill - ch-lo-vi-ek. I used "tz", because it's also a way of English to take care of those pesky Slavic endings. The funniest thing is - there are already sounds in English which imitate well enough Polish sounds under "sz", "cz", "rz".
Instead of 2 kings, keep kings the same, but also have 1 non-exploding queen or hero unit who has the same ability to heal and boost army but takes up 20 pop space. Give king the ability to boost eco, but also give king the ability to boost the defense of the queen or hero unit so there is reason to put king with queen/hero to boost queen/hero and main army or to put king behind queen/hero to boost queen/hero.
Maybe give the king a "bodyguard" of some sort, who's about the power level of a peasant when not near the king, but powerful when close to the king and possibly also heals the king (and only the king). That way it isn't as scary to bring the king with the main army, but if the bodyguard is killed all bets are off.
I was always intrigued by the idea of kings not just being fat old men that die when you throw one arrow, but can actually do something. Instead of giving them stats, they could just be the civs strongest Unique Unit. You obviously have to make sure that they can't kill a TC on their own in Dark Age. That way you would actually have to come with a decently sized army if you want to kill, say, Dschingis Khan and can't just sneak it with three Paladin.
I say throw everything thought of so far from the start of game: eco buff, military buff, armour buff. Then use the age ups to give the king damage and maybe HP upgrades that snowball into Imp. Keep the early game stress levels from going higher than they already are for inexperienced players :P But I do agree more incentive is needed to get players to bring their king into combat
I like the idea of alternative regicide mode with strong mounted kings-heroes (although I was also always amused by the fat useless kings in AoE2). :) To make it safer in the early game, the script may generate a castle near the starting TC. Then there would still be a potential problem of king raids into unprotected eco. Imagine a woodline, raided by a strong unit. But if it's possible to upgrade king's hp, attack and armor through the ages with the scripts, then that would be the way to do ti, I think.
My 2 cents on the king providing an economic boost to villagers around them: I don't think it is such a good idea. The fun thing about the stats boost is that in order to get the bonus the king has to be placed near combat, increasing the risk. If you also give an economic boost there is no incentive to risk the king for a military boost since you can get an equally good (or even better) bonus by keeping your king safe within your economy. Either way, diplo games never fail to deliver some very funny situations.
What about "Berry Battle" only way to farm food is, berry bushes. or maybe everyone starts with a marked and some traders, and have to use all outcome of that to gain everything else. (no villager ressource grinding) could be interesting. just some ideas.. idk^^
I think make the kings more tanky so that they die when surrounded but they don't die from a few stabs received in battle. Also i would remove the explosions for this because you already have to think about keeping the king safe at all times + helping the army. You can't at the same time do all this and also have the king somewhere where the explosion will benefit you.
Rather than have 2 kings have a king and a queen. Make the king normal big explosion. But give the queen a smaller explosion radius with a bit longer timer. But also all the buffs to protect it.
Maybe instead of a king, you could try to add civ-related champions as leaders to incentivize kings being with army in combat? It would function as a king ofc but instead of a king, it would be a named hero. For example: If civ = Franks, then King = Joan of Arc / La Hire, etc. If civ = Mongols, then King = Genghis Khan / Subotai, etc. This would be really cool and immersive IMO.
Maybe there should be a one time chance to teleport your king back to your base if the combat goes wrong for you, then at least you are still in the game.
Throwing this out there, T90. How about if losing a King does not lose you a game immediately? Hear me out. If you lose a King, you will be forced to pay out 3000 gold from your stockpile of resources to the player who killed the King. This is ransom for the King. If sufficiently paid, the King will then respawn at the Castle closest to your Starting Town Center. If you are unable to pay this amount, that is, at the time of the King's death you had less than 3000 gold in the bank, then you are eliminated from the game. It gives armies incentive to target Kings on the battlefield, but may lead to entertaining tactical blunders (reminds me of the Battle of Agincourt where many of the over eager French charged at the center of the English army where the king was). It may also serve to further embolden players to bring along their Kings as losing the King is not an infinite loss. As it stands, bringing Kings to the battlefield has *some* benefits, but the risk of infinite loss far outweighs that limited advantage.
If people need more incentive to use the king aura, could have Kings gain max HP as a player advances to new ages, have like 75/150/225/300 HP per age. They're just too snipable for people to risk using for maximum content!
Two kings would be good. Is it possible to make one of the kings a "dud" and the other king the actual king? Maybe if not even the player knows which is which...
You might need to have 3 kings per player with smaller explosions if you want to incentivize players to use them near armies, otherwise it's always too risky to put your game-losing unit close to combat no matter how much it buffs your units.
Hey T90, I like the king giving bonuses but at the same time I like them being weak so someone can easily snipe them. What if you guys try something like Chess, were you have a strong Queen that can help you in battle and a weak king that is easily killable and you need to protect. You can die if either of them get's killed
Between the Polish player and the Belgian (?) player, I feel so bad for T90’s pronunciation efforts this time. Valiant (and decent, all things considered) effort tho 💪 …but yes it was hilarious.
I'm exited to see a game gegicide with exploding queens. Keep your king alive to stay in in the game. He can't explode. Your queen is a bomb you can use once.
Kings should be hero units if they give buffs to adjacent units OR if you want them to still be fat and useless, at least give 3 kings so ppl are more incentivized to send one with military. I like the idea of the king buffing vills efficiency too IDK how nobody thought to kill the wonder before the 50 year mark. *facepalm*
