    I love those pools! I had one for 11 years. They are EASY to clean and maintain. Put one bag of SHOCK per month, then I would add a large box of baking soda. Once it clears up, I would keep one chlorine tablet in the skimmer or in a floaty. Have your water tested each week. And if it rains a lot, just add a large bag of SHOCK around the inside edge of the pool. It will keep it in balance.

      We had soooo many frogs that the noise got unbearable at night and i worried the neighbors would start shooting at the pool lol. I’m working on the swamp now. Got it from a very dark green to very light green but definitely can’t see the bottom. Last year it took me months because I thought I could ignore the high ph until after the algae was gone. I then went through 3 gallons of muriatic acid and hundreds of $ of liquid shock.

    Perfect timing for this video. Im a first time pool owner. We have a 26x12 pool and the cover ripped halfway through winter. We drained the pool as much as we could (like 10" left in the bottom) then skimmed it and scrubbed the walls and floor. Filled the pool up and added 1 bag of shock. Went to turn the pump on and it was broken because water froze in it over the winter. Ordered a new pump/sand filter that came in 2 days later. Got it put together and added a new bag of shock. Let the pump run for 12 hours. No difference in water, still green. I skimmed it again, scrubbed the sides, let the pump run for another 8 hours and still no change! My girlfriend added 2 more bags of shock (each is supposed to treat 10,000 gallons) today so Im going to run the pump through the night and hope we see a difference in the morning. I dont know what to do at this point!

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams
      @SilverLiningDayDreams  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry for the late response to your comment. Have you been able to clear it up? Often it stays green because not enough shock is used. Sometimes you have to shock the daylights out of it but then you have to wait for the chlorine levels to go down before swimming. Also caution you don’t kill vegetation when backwashing. Take care 😊

      Because the leaves had been in the pool since about last October some of them were degraded and frail. Using a leaf rake gets the pool water dirty and cloudy such that soon you can’t find them to rake them up anymore. Our pool pump is a beast and has never clogged over the years. I’ve owned an above ground pool for 4 years and all I have ever used is Clorox to shock the pool. Sometimes a couple of shocks to kill all the algae and then just put in the Clorox tablets. Agreed that you must get all the leaves out with the vacuum or it takes a lot longer to clear it up.

    to help polish the water since a sand filter doesnt have a small enough micron to catch suspended particles, you can add a half pound of D.E to the skimmer while in filter mode. let it run for 12 to 24 hours then do a quick backwash and viola crystal clear water, vaccuming to waste helps an incredible amount with sand filters. also balancing your alkalinity helps the active power of chlorine as it helps buffer the high PH that liquid carries

    Good video, helpful hint. Always get all the floating debris and everything off the bottom. Even if you can't see the bottom run your vacuum down there to get it and even stir it up so it might get into the skimmer. The chlorine or shock will attack the debris, lose its strength/ power and won't be as effective on cleaning the water.

    I'm wondering why you don't use a cover. We are in western New York with big maple trees around our yard, so we get tons of leaves each fall. We put a cover on the pool and a leaf net too. Usually take the leaf net off after all the leaves are down, but in 2022, we got an early hard freeze. So we just left the frozen leaves on until spring. Then before we could get the VERY HEAVY net off a few weeks ago, we got massive amounts of rain which weighed down the net and the cover. Both failed. Hence a large amount of dirty leaf water and leaves got into the pool. Your tips on Opening an Above Ground Pool have been very helpfui and we're working on clearing the water now. But, back to my original question... you must have a reason for not using a cover. One of my neighbors doesn't use one either, but almost everyone else around here does use one. I'm wondering if we'd be better off without one.

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams
      @SilverLiningDayDreams  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question!
      If You can use a cover and get it to work it’s advantageous!
      Because by covering your pool, every winter, you decrease the amount of time that the UV light from the sun is beating down on your liner. This will help to increase the lifespan of your liner and help to decrease fading.
      Here in Wisconsin due to snow, ice and wind we have had too many fails with the liner so we just gave up on it over time.
      We had our new liner installed last Wednesday and we just released a video on our pool liner install. It’s not a how to, but it will give you a good vibe of what it’s like to get a liner installed and during the installation I voiceover why we don’t use a pool cover and and also why we don’t put a lot of chemicals into our pool. So the video will help give some pros and cons. Because we just had the new liner installed we’re thinking we’re gonna try using a cover this winter and if it works we’ll keep doing it and if not, we’ll go back to what we have been doing and just keep it uncovered

      Glad we could help! We are from WI too 😊. Go Pack!!! There are earlier comments with threads addressing pool covers. I’ll cut and paste my initial response to pool cover suggestions here…..
      In theory that’s a great idea and for many it’s an option that works out well. I can tell you from our experiences over the decades, easier said than done. Our winters and springs can be horrendous with wind, snow, ice and rain. We have had failures with pool covers in times past. When factoring in the cost to purchase a cover for our large pool; it’s really a coin toss on how worth while it is. Also, there can be periodic maintenance removing water & debris from the top of the pool cover. Maybe we’ll try one again down the road. But for now our bias is towards not using a cover. Take care 😊

    When you put the filter on waste where does the water go? Is it coming out of the filter like when you back wash?
    We had a super green pool and my husband used algaecide and shocked it and he thought he had to change the sand so he did that too and the pool is still cloudy. We haven’t put the vacuum in the skimmer yet and put the filter to waste so we are going to try that today!

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams
      @SilverLiningDayDreams  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we put the filter on waste, the water goes into the yard some and behind the pool.
      It would be best if it went with a longer hose into the street or if you’re in the country behind your yard away for example, but we have a tighter spot in the city. If you have a lot of chlorine in your pool, you have to be careful because if you put too much waste in one area of your yard you can kill some of the vegetation or more delicate type trees. When we vacuum to waste to get those leaves and twigs out, it goes out the same hole at the back of the filter that the water goes out when we backwash.
      I’m not sure if I totally answered your question, so feel free to message us again and we can try to explain better. 😊

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams
      @SilverLiningDayDreams  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. Great questions.
      And Yes there will be a part 2 video.
      After shocking and clearing the pool of green algae, leaves and debris; which is usually the next day…we add clarifier. (Do not add more clarifier than directions indicate).
      Then the following day we add algaecide.
      Those are the only three chemicals we use.
      We used to check water hardness and others but have found over the years that it’s not worth the time, effort and money. It doesn’t make enough of a difference. Stay tuned for more 😊

    I can remember those days on the farm..with our 36' round pool..even though we had a cover for winter....it still managed to turn dark green...but we used a product called Muratic Acid to drop it..just one jug...it feel to the bottom just like gelatin and then we vacuumed and watched our pressure gage on the pump...when it got high..we back washed and after several passes..the pool was crystal clear...then let it set then put in shock..then checked the PH..level. during the hot summer days we would go with the shock...instead of chlorine but we kept pucks of chlorine in the floaters all the time..the pH was good even with a heavy load of kids... our pool company recommended the Muratic Acid for start up..it did work great..and after we finished haying every day for two weeks....that pool was a blessing..

      Sorry I couldn’t get to your question earlier. Hopefully you’ve cleared the algae out of your pool by now. Sounds like as long as the little bit of algae at the bottom is loose and your free chlorine is good then yes put in some algaecide and and re-evaluate a couple days later.
      Sometimes we can’t clear everything up 100% but if the free chlorine is good we swim and afterwards make s whirlpool to move the loose debri into center of pool and then vacuum to waste the center of the pool the next morning

      Depends on where you buy the liquid shock but the Champion brand 2 pack is normally around $40 for the pair. @SilverLiningDayDreams  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@officeassistant6072 Hi, sorry We didn’t notice this question sooner. Periodically we use clarifier which is called Polysheen Blue. It helps to clear cloudy water. Think of it as helping tiny particles clump together into larger particles to more easily be filtered.
      We don’t buy stabilizer which is also referred to as conditioner or CYA.
      Throughout the summer we will occasionally use those 4 in 1 or 6 in 1 or all in one bags to shock the pool and those will have some stabilizer and other things in them. Depends on what’s for sale locally usually.
      We just test for free chlorine for the most part ( not all the others). Technically speaking you’re supposed to check everything and manipulate the chemicals to “balance” them appropriately. For us, we just have found it’s not worth all the time/effort and fuss.

I do agree preventative maintenance would be the best way to avoid this hassle. I also have been known for getting a broom and making a whirlpool in that fashion. With all the money you spent on shock and other chemicals, it would have been less expensive to just drain, clean, and fill up with new water from the city depending on where you live and if you are on a well. The drain, clean and refill is definitely cheaper here in Georgia.

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams
      @SilverLiningDayDreams  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. We have city water which is on a 5 tiered payment price which drastically increases in cost as you use more and more gallons of water. In addition they add on a sewer cost even though the water wouldn’t be going into a sewer. I just did the math and it would be somewhere between 250 & 300 dollars. Add to it you have to find somewhere to put all that water and when you drain the pool you risk having damage issues with your pool walls. For us, it is far more worthwhile to use chemicals to clear the green pool water 😊

I use quick chlorine granules to shock my pool and so far it hasn’t worked. The instructions say to use 75 grams per 10 000 litres to shock. Didn’t work, so two days later I used twice the amount. Didn’t work. Now I tried to triple the amount and the water isn’t changing its color or anything. I have a sand pump which I backwash and rinse twice a day and it’s been on 24/7 since Friday. I’ve checked the pH and it varies between 7,4 and 7,6. Any advice? If the water doesn’t get clear I will drain the pool and fill it again. I’ve watched several other videos as well and all the other people get results within hours. I just don’t want to give up! There must be something to do 😅

Take care 😊

    They make this really cool device called a leaf net $30-$40 would save you hours and hours of screwing around.

      It’s not as simple as that. We purposely choose not to cover our pool in the fall so we know there will be debris in the spring. Much of the debris has degraded such that it makes a bigger mess trying to use a leaf rake. There are many threads in the comments explaining why a pool cover is not used 😊

      Our pool pump had broke last fall and it took a couple weeks or so for it to arrive so our pool got real bad. We were going to install a new liner this spring so we didn’t worry about cleaning it. But liners were on back order. We purposely did not use a pool cover. Make sure you pray and ask the Lord to give you knowledge to keep from making a lot of mistakes. He gives much wisdom to His children. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

      Theoretically, yes that’s true. But we find if we wait there’s a good chance we will forget! Lol! Seriously though, we haven’t found much of a difference as long as it goes in. Thanks for watching!

    04:05” vacuum to waste…. This does not apply to all pools ! I’d say this only applies to pools with very small pumps. If I vacuumed to waste my pool water level would drop below the skimmers in about 5-10 minutes. And with a 35,000 gallon pool my garden hose would take about a day to replace the water.

    We get ducks on our pool too, even before we open if we don't keep up with keeping the pool cover drained. We call them the f*cking ducks because that's precisely what they come to do lol

    Why aren't you using gloves to clean out the dirt. There's leaves, bird poop and what ever nasty sludge needed to be cleaned out of the filters.. but this is a cool video.

      My wife (Michelle) suggested I edit that part out because someone might think I was actually shooting at the duck, but I was just hitting the side of the pool. I kept it in for “drama” 😂
      Stay tuned for more 😊
