  • 'A mistake': Royal experts react to Prince William, Meghan Markle and Harry reunion | Queen death. Prince William’s attempt to build bridges with his brother Harry could backfire, believes the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden. Following a text message from Prince William, he and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised well-wishers at Windsor on Saturday by appearing together. The new Prince of Wales’ move may have been well-intentioned, says Eden, but it was also very risky. ‘I think William’s gesture was magnanimous, it was very kind, but I’m afraid I fear it was a mistake, because when they’ve made kind gestures before towards Harry and Meghan they’ve been thrown back in their face,’ he tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential. ‘I mean look at how the Duchess of Cambridge as she then was, went round [to see Meghan] after there had been a row over the flower girls at the wedding - she took some flowers and that was held against her publically in the Oprah interview… William’s gesture has elevated them, it’s made them central again now, next to William and Catherine. It’s wonderful for them, I’m sure they’ll be able to exploit it a lot in the future, but I do fear it’s a mistake.’ Charlotte Griffiths, the Mail on Sunday’s Editor at Large, believes that engineering meeting of the so-called Fab Four ahead of the Queen’s funeral could prove to be a smart move.

The Princess Royal is absolutely devastated by the loss of her mother. Anne is such an extremely hardworking member of the family and so obvious very close to her mother. She was by her side constantly towards the end and at the end and beyond. She is a real trouper.

Much love to her. She’s shows such class that we as Americans have forgotten about because the media and technology apparently has decided who raises the children because the parents do not want to take any responsibility anymore. Look at the royal family. They work hard to raise beautiful well-rounded children. Maybe it’s time Americans take a lesson.

Well said Richard Eden and Charlotte, totally agree with you, people see them 4 together and think they are sorting everything out. Catherine tried Time and time again only to get it through back in her face and Meghan has had her in tears, over Charlotte they used Prince George in all sketch they done making him out like a spoilt child. William did not have to do that with H&M, he chose to do it. The moves he has made I think is related to the Queen and knowing this what she would have wanted, that's what I personally think. H&M have done a lot of damage, not forgetting him coming over to make sure the Queen has the right people round her, that is an insult to the RF. He came home for DOE funeral, not for the memorial, the unveiling, he stayed 20mins, now the Queens funeral , there's a pattern there. Trust is an easy thing to lose, and a hard thing to get back. If the book gets published, the Queen can't get hurt she is not here anymore, but his father can, Camilla will definitely be in that book

I think that she was actually the only one who was truly devastated. All the rest were just sad ( but not so much to cry their eyes out) or pretended to be sad for the sake of appearances. Charles is completely obsessed with himself, William cool, Kate looked like more troubled about the sudden changes in their lives rather than very very sad, Meghan Markle was faking it completely ( as always) and Harry was more unhappy about being snubbed by the others than about the death of his grandmother.
Another one who was really sad was Prince George. Charlotte didn't look able to comprehend what exactly was going on in the funeral. I was left with the notion that in the beginning she found the whole situation very entertaining.

He wants all the glory and benefits of being royal, but he and MM didn't want to do the work that was required. HMTQ wasn't beloved because she shirked her duties. The people replying to your comment isn't acknowledging Harry's behavior. Harry chose Meghan over his family and during these 3+ years he sure haven't acted like he cared about his Granny even with the Jubilee he left early with Meghan because they didn't like how they were being treated. The Jubilee was about the Queen not them they should had stayed and supported her. He has been doing his best to destroy his Granny's legacy. I agree with you completely he doesn't deserve to be there.

Personally, I think in this modern day and age there is a lot of advantages in doing what the Dutch have done over the previous three reigns. Abdicate in favour of the crown prince or princess. Kings and princes no longer die from war wounds or disease and the BRF clearly carry strong longevity genes. Not only would this give everyone a fair chance but it would have benefits for the retired monarch too. It seems almost cruel to keep a lady of 96 years working or expect a prince well after retirement age to suddenly spring into a very active job.

Well I've news for you, the media said exactly the same - and worse - about Catherine's family. Her mother came from a council estate in a mining village - you don't get much worse than that as an insult - and they made fun of the fact she worked as an air hostess. Catherine didn't complain, he parents stayed shtum as well and just swallowed the insults.
The problem seems to be that many in the US see these things as racist, they aren't and that says far more about how the US sees Meghan (and the TABLOIDS in the US were - and still are - far more vicious than any in the UK were which is why Opra had to use their headlines in her chat show, she couldn't actually find ANY racist headlines/articles in the UK media) and whatever ethnicity - which you seem to find endlessly fascinating in the US - she may or may not be (one quarter African-American according to articles I have read). She didn't face ANY racist newspaper articles in the UK - see my comment above about Opra and her chat - so had to manufacture outrage because apparently growing up in a bad neighbourhood (and I understand it was anything but a bad neighbourhood in reality) is somehow a racist jibe. Unfortunately most - out and away the most - of the racism comes from her fellow countryfolk and that is something that the US refuses to do anything about (you seem to think that free speech means you can call somebody racist slurs without any repercussions. This is such an emotional time for the royals. The Queen deliberately brought people together that had different views. She promoted tolerance. Now The King will do the same. No one at this time should be looking to judge others for what they bring to the table. Trust has been lost but there is so much to still be lived and many beautiful memories. No one wants to hear sad upsets that should have been dealt with in real time as that is not what monarchy is about. Emotional intelligence is to be promoted now. I just feel sad that the royals have not had the private time to grieve and adjust in their own way. Thanks Princess Royal for all that you have done, and King Charles for showing his humble side. The British press must leave foreigners to be who they need to be as they do not share or understand what monarchy is for us. This is the perfect time to see the best it is.
