The panther at 5 minute mark is almost exactly like a displacer beast. An official version is included in the D&D Dragon's Tale set, but this could be a nice way to make an extra 😋
Great recommendation. I bought a lot of the Ninjago series as well because of their love for wood and stone components in the series. Works well in campaigns. I have seen the dreams big flying ship as well for potential monster parts but indeed they Quickly get rather big. Awesome video again. Great tip!
@@critbrickyou can check Harry Potter line as well, they have some kind of fantasy forest and even giant spider builds. I give figures to my kids, and then we build together some monsters and magic forests from all those sets mixed together
@@critbrick Depends on what you want to create of course, I got a few monsters out of the Cole's Earth Dragon evo, small design and a lot of little brick build monster pieces. There are a lot of mid and small sets like that usable for creatures with horns, wings but all small sized. For a bigger stone dragon design and usage for scene I took the Dragon Stone Shrine. Imperium Dragon hunter Hound set and Nya's Water Dragon EVO also do great jobs. That's for the newer sets at least.
I love how many creatures you've made out of the set. Your approach is super creative. You could reuse and modify some of my builds if you need humanoid-like monsters. For example, the troll you used in one of your videos or cyclop. They're relatively sturdy and you can put another head on it.
Many of the Harry Potter sets have given me a lot of good figures or pieces for buildings/terrain. Monsters are much tougher to get though. I think designing and then ordering pieces might be the best play for making monsters but it's also a ton of extra work!
Yeah! I ordered a lot of the ball connection pieces to try out what would work good for monsters. It makes the limb situation easier 😅 But as with a lot of creative stuff having limitations makes it easier to create stuff rather than harder. Can you recommend Harry Potter sets that are still on sale and you took a lot of utility from?
@ A lot of the sets I have are not available anymore, but Harry Potter still has some decent stuff. The owlery for a watch tower, the potion class set could be made into a magic shop, many of the castle’s different wings can be made into cool things. Lots of figures are perfect mages, and dementors are cool ghosts. The Forbidden Forest set is perfect for the Fey Wild or some other dark forest (even though that set is overpriced). Just lots of small hidden gems.
The dog like creature you created with different heads is perfect for modular monster builds. Creates some standard bodies, arms, legs, heads, tails and maybe some wings and click them together at the joints for easy assembly. That way you can create some different monsters on the fly. Your idea of having different heads will really help in defining specific monster that your campaign needs, and can be done before a session.
Great video. I especially like the minifigures and the colors. The faces are fantastic, so many possibilities. It's amazing how much you can get out of only one set. I would find it very hard to see the “possibilities” in the finished set. I am a “builder by instruction”. 😁 Your terrain looks stunning, how great the paladin shield from the CMF looks next to the green landscape. I would still be interested to see what “areas” your different races come from. Do you have forests, dungeons, sea, mountains, as the origin of your characters? I'm a total newbie to D&D, but the variety amazes me and as a Lego castle or fantasy fan this feels like a “long time waiting for this moment”. Looking for your next video.
Great video. And a lot of good points about that set and monster->lego design. The D&D set, with master builders at the table, shows how complicated D&D monsters are. Glued together by magic, I guess. 😂
Loved the video. I think the discussion of the monster manual is spot on. I built instructions for a minifig scale Owlbear design because it is so iconic. I have tried a few others. But, getting minifig scale and an interesting silhouette is very challenging out of the manual!
I'll sure have a look at that set! I can also really recommend the Dreamzzz Dream Village (40657) 3 fun little humanoids and lots of cool/useful props. I actually bought two of them and now there is a village of friedly little forrest folks.
I had that set on my wishlist since LEGO announced they will discontinue it soon. Good to hear that it’s as good as I imagined. But if I get you rights it’s more for terrain than monsters, right?
@@critbrick Yeah it's more for terrain, scatter and itmes. For me the really useful parts are: The 3 Dreamlings (they are a race in my world now) A golden helmet (looks really fancy) Some golden weapons There is a set of wands Some gold bars Some baked goods There are a few plant pieces and frogs in various colors Some potions And since I bough two of them I also made some propper buildings and I'm using those for the village. With the 2024 DMG and Bastions coming up I think the dreamling might make for some great hirelings if you can tie it into your worldbuilding. It's probably not 30€ in value if you don't have a use for the buildings and get the important stuff on bricklink but I'll gladly pay a premium to push Lego towards more creative sets
I played around with the set again yesterday evening and came up with two new monsters that I like even better than the others 😅 I’m thinking about doing another video.
@ say you have a medieval setting showing a chip on a head could be a metal skull or some hiding a hidden form. You can also rearrange the ship into a shop booth. I’ve done it myself
Alternate building with official sets is something I really enjoy doing. It's easy for alternate builds to compliment the modular system. Thanks for this super fun video! I probably would have picked up the set in question if I didn't already alternate build with the Pegasus Flying Horse Dreamzzz set. And hey I don't think scale necessarily has to be as big of an issue. I think you could tell some interesting stories with bigger creatures that a lower level party would find memorable. Say like a huge golem or something they can scale etc!
If you are interested in the mini figures as well I think the set is well worth it. I compared it to other sets from the dreamzzz series and think it’s very fair priced for what you get.
More Monsters vídeo please!!!! You can use some instruction form Rebrickable to build those Monsters without silhuet. But those who haver you can do It. Please onde more Monsters vídeo! And with INSTRUCTION!!!! Good joob, Very good vídeo
I’m so tempted to just publish a video once it’s done. But I really try to keep to a regular schedule and I know I would run into issues next week if I didn’t wait 😅
Damn you did it again, great video! Thank you so much for this content. Would love to share my creations directly inspired by your videos, lmk if you have an inbox or something Have a great weekend!
I feel you. Personally I love the colors but I was very hesitant on doing a video on this set because of how distinct the colors are. I need to have a look at the insects. They sound perfect for a lot of dnd monsters.
@bricktoadbuild I was wondering the same thing. Just spent the last half an hour on dndbeyond to look at the partnered content they now have. Any recommendations would be appreciated 😇
Looks like you get sponsored by Lego! If so, good job man! Just don’t make it a solely advertisement channel and stay true to your ideas! Love your channel!
Any sets you can recommend (that are still being sold)? I find a lot of the franchise sets a little on the expensive side but have added the “Forbidden Forest: Magic Creatures” to my wishlist. It doesn’t look very modular though.

True. And a good idea! I will have a look at the “original” and see if the model can be tweaked to be closer to that!
I feel bad for not keeping up with this channel when you've been talking about the stuff I specifically asked for.
This is some great stuff.
Fantastic video! Such a great Lego set, and great usage of the parts for your D&D campaigns! Love it.
The modular creature with the four legged design looks just like the shifter beast.

Is there any Ninjago set you can recommend for building monsters out of it? Would love to try out that theme a little more! 🤓

Hats off to you, man! This video is by far my favorite. Love the monster designs.

The bigger raven set is even cooler. It has a Baba yaga house on it!
It is! But even with a current discount it’s still close to double to price of this one. 🫣
Just added to my wishlist for now. 😅

I also suggest the captain Rex microfighter for injuries ( Rex inhibitor chip)
Interesting. I’ve looked at the set and I don’t think I quite get how to implement that into my campaign. Are you playing in a sci-fi setting?

The party don't have to defeat it - maybe slip past it, negotiate with it or steal something from it.
In The Hobbit, it was not the party who defeated Smaug.

The purples and pinks just don't work for me. I've been looking at the ideas insect collection set for some monster ideas and extra terrain parts.
I feel you. Personally I love the colors but I was very hesitant on doing a video on this set because of how distinct the colors are.
I need to have a look at the insects. They sound perfect for a lot of dnd monsters.
The design of the monsters in the Monster Manual is horrific. It reads like a zoology textbook. They have no life, no character, no dirty tricks.
Can you recommend a better book?

Sadly no sponsoring 😅 bought the set with my own money. Getting sets for free would be awesome though 🫠
Let's boost the algorithm then so you become so big, that Lego will start sponsoring you!
Lmao what are you doing at Dreams look into Harry Potter sets, much more realistic fantasy pieces that you can take serious there 👌🏼
