I just want to take a minute to acknowledge how knowledgeable Rachel is, but also how absolutely caring and compassionate she is. I hope her dad and the Ramsey team is reading this. What an asset to your team.❤ love her!
Great to hear from this 18 yr following your program. I have a 24 yr old son who has been following your plan for years. It’s such a relief and makes me so happy when he quotes you guys. He is a diesel mechanic making pretty good money for 24 yrs old. Drives a paid for 2013 truck and does his own repairs. Next is preparing to buy a home. It’s much more fun and much easier with us both following your plan, we speak the same language when it comes to money.
Thank you lol I just want to make sure I’m making the right choice because I believe my parents believe many of the wrong things
To the 1st caller, I feel your pain, man. I didn't even want to go to college, but family insisted that if I didn't, I'd end up digging ditches. And no, trade school or "cowtown community college" wasn't good enough either, so I kept the grades up, kept my nose clean, got a full ride to a private college, and graduated with a degree that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. But by golly, the folks had bragging rights to me attending an "expensive private college." Probably didn't help that my cousin was accepted to Princeton. Your parents surely love you to the moon and back, but please don't let them use you to prop up their social status. And their assertion that debt doesn't matter is flat out wrong. Like Deloney says, if they're not paying your way, they don't get a vote!
Thank you. It’s just hard because they are so deadset on me not living here and living expenses could cost a similar amount. I really don’t understand why I have an opportunity for them to put me at an advantage over 90% of the population and they choose not to.
@@torinlevy2156they still haven’t budged? You could do something crazy and go to a trade school, and start making big money very quickly. You would still need somewhere to live in the meantime and I pray your family can see it from your point of view soon. Sending you my prayers
Whenever they talk about student loans I am so glad I am from Ireland. I got my degree for free, my first job paid for my accountancy exams. I lived and worked in Australia for 7 years now back in Ireland working as a Finance Director for a US company. I love the US travel there often for work but the medical and education system is hard for normal people to thrive.
Your degree wasn't free, i was paid for by tax payers, including plumbers, electricians, factory floor workers, etc.
Very true and I pay a massive amount of tax now but I have a very comfortable debt free lifestyle so I am happy to get the start at the start of my life and pay it forward now I can afford it
Spot on!!
@@AnnArborBuckyeah and stress free and not living for "stuff" like we do here
So nice to see a fellow Irish person here!! Hello!! :) Congrats on all your successes! Also silly question but can you recommend any good Irish shows similar to Dave Ramsey to listen to? :)
I liked Rachel’s mini-analysis of views on education in New England vs “The South.” As a New York/NJ transplant to FL, I see what she’s talking about.
Yeah but there is also a class of people that think it's more important to go to a school to party and root for their football team, because Mom and Dad did that. There is still a stigma around community college and "off brand" colleges in the south too
I’m curious. What were your views on not valuing education (as much) like most northerners do before moving to Fl? And how has your views changed (if any) since?
Toren, I'm here to defend you against taking out loans for private education. Bunker Hill Community College was the beginning of my life. After that, I transferred to UMass Boston. I have finally found a fantastic opportunity to work in accounting for a Boston construction company. A few of my classmates from community college chose to attend Bentley. I obtained a job shortly after my last semester, and guess what? One or two year later, my friends who attended Bentley are still unemployed and in debt. Choose wisely for your future.
Thank you it is so cool to see people I similar situations or who have lived out similar situations especially when you are that local
Good for you! I have friends and family in the Boston, MA, area and know that folks there place a high value on education, which is fine, but not if it puts you in financial chains for the next 10-20 years of your life! Hope Torin ultimately does what's right for him and his future and not his parents' bragging rights at the country club.
@ lol. I actually just tried talking to them again didn’t go well again although I think my mom is starting to see why it is so ridiculous for me to not do this
in case that first caller reads this, you do not need to put every university on your resume, and when companies run a background check they have the option to pay for an extra layer for education, which will only show the university you graduated from. they would have to see your transcripts in order to see every college and class and grade/GPA, which is not publicly available, I can't run a business and call Brown University and ask for Emma Watsons Transcripts saying she applied for a job. that is private information protected. many companies do not want to pay for that added background check layer , and simply rely on the fact your first job after college probably ran it and confirmed you have a degree, especially if its a blue chip. Also, I doubt any serious company would care if you spent the first 1-2 years at a community college, I think thats ridiculous and I personally would have no problem putting it on my resume.
Ok thank you so much. I figured it wouldn’t matter as much as the school I graduate from. Which in this case this state school is a very good academic school.
If a company doesn't want to hire me because I went to community college for 2 years ... Screw them lol why would you want to work with people like that
I truly believe I can help you get better in the financial markets. With some time and the right guidance, I’m confident you’ll start to see your financial "wheels" getting stronger and more stable. I’ve helped others build a solid foundation, and I’d love to do the same for you. It’s all about taking the right steps together. Let me know if you’re ready to get started!
Toren…as a mom of 4 in MA go for the cost free community college!
Thank you I plan to talk with my parents today. Deadline for the schools they want is coming up soon
If you’re 68 years old with only 2k per month income you can move here to the Dominican Republic and be very financially stable. There are lots of Americans here.
How are the living conditions?
@ fantastic, I live in a building with a pool on the roof, a security guard , an emergency room at the end of my street and lots of stores, restaurants and beaches nearby.
Great idea
If I may ask, you’re paying for the security and all that how much more or less in American dollars do you pay??? Please be very specific about the dollar amounts please I’m interested too thanks.
That lady can't move there or do much of anything. Very strange
The look on Rachels face with "Linda" was priceless.
The audible response I had to “we’re on our fifth kid. I’m 28.” 😭😂
I’m still trying to wrap my head around being 28 years old with five children😮
How is that difficult to comprehend? They’re easy to make and have.
And she might end up the same as the next 68 yo divorced woman with no work experience. A man is not a good plan. If he gets violent, a jobless wife with 5 kids can't even afford to move out.
Georgia guy --- move out of the area somewhere like Kennesaw, Acworth, Woodstock, etc. The commute is totally doable. Most people do that to get out of the city and buy in areas they can afford to be a homeowner and keep your same employment and lifestyle. Start with a townhome, like Rachel said and grow from there. My parents will be selling our family home in Kennesaw soon and it's doable on your income.
Lindsay - You can check your credit report and your home title. If your name is on any bills or accounts, you can get your own login and password. You do not need his login. Direction: beef up our resume. Therapy is not going to fix this. But you do need to proceed cautiously and track down everything that has to do with the finances to protect yourself.
40:23 “maybe you’ve earned that lack of trust”. Exactly! This wife is not innocent here. Her husband is worried about her spending so she turns DOWN a job making more money?!! For her mental health?! lol. I wonder how his mental health is doing when he can’t trust his wife? And she wonders why he won’t let her access the accounts. There is more to this story. Don’t throw her a pity party. I’d love to hear from the husband!
There are affordable homes but they are a bit further outside of the ‘cool’ areas. But you have to start somewhere. Pay down that mortgage and take advantage of the appreciation and roll that into your next home in a cooler area.
Linda, oh my word. First off, I am sorry. Secondly, listen to what John and Rachel are saying. Lean on some people. You'll need their help.
John is salty today… kind of rude and jumping to conclusions with callers.
Good point Rachel!!
Seems like there are more commercials than content these days.
Community college in this state isn't "free"!! It costs about $3000 a term ( 3 months) or $1000/ month!!
A car payment of 270 and no other debt that’s a no-brainer what Ramsay misses is there’s also peace and having cash while managing dead but having cash on hand is also very important when having a baby
1/4 million net worth, home paid off, making over $40k a year and Im not sure I could burn a $20 bill in my living room without feeling it. No way I would throw away a $20!!!! Am I crazy?
Linda should look for babysitting. Especially in a big city like Dallas I’m sure the cost of babysitting is so exspensive.
Families with parents in Rest Homes or alone at home are always looking for respectful, reliable sitters
46:30 grocery prices must be exorbitant in ATL for two people to have to spend $800/month. Dang! Unless that includes the dog food, as well.
That's what I'm saying too. I'm not in Georgia but my wife and I with 2 dogs only spend half that. We consciously pick bargain brands on things to cut it down and not buy extra sometimes. I guarantee they don't. They are the typical entitled "I deserve this and won't settle for anything else" people.
Lindsey husband is smart tbh. And yeah Jim, you need to make about at least 120k in Atlanta to be able to be able to afford a house. So your close you can get there. Now 140k is more realistic if you want to have a kid or two.
Another thing for Jim is that they should be pulling in at anout 6k a month after taxes. With no debt and 2k mortgage other bills should be maybe at max 2k. They should be pocketing 2k minimum a month to save. U can get a house. Save up for 3 or 4 years your down payment should get you something affordable.
That military wife, 270 a month for 16k vehicle, that’s gotta be a long long term for such a low payment. Probably like a 5 year loan.
We're a family of 5, and our grocery bill is NEVER $800/month! I cook the majority of our meals as well. It used to be $1200/month 6 years ago. It is now well over $2400/month and rising! 52:30
Why are parents paying for their children’s car or phone? We made our children work..Plus they left the nest by 19..Stop raising dependent spoiled children
I meannn I understand ya but it’s their children at the end of the day so they can actually do as they please. Just as you have that ability 👍🏽
I’m 35, own a home, car, no debt, good job. Pretty independent 😊 Ive worked since I was 16. My parents still pay for my phone and car insurance. It’s not a big deal if they can handle it and I certainly appreciate it. Don’t shame us because you make different decisions.
I was the guy on the call just want to clarify. I paid for the car it’s just in their name. I also cover gas, maintenance, and insurance. I have worked consistently since I was 14. However I do not pay for the phone.
@@lizzog4553 They shouldn't take ownership of the car then, it's yours and they don't get to decide what to do with it. Seems like toxic controlling environment and you may be better off fending for yourself. It will cost more at the beginning to be independent, but in the long term it will pay off.
The 68 ear old woman needs to get housemates
Golden girls
Toren, take it from someone who knows ppl personally with 150k student loan debt without the means to repay it! It's a federal government scam in my opinion. Go the cheaper route! You'll be fine! Trust me!
At this point I’m not sure my parents have stayed strong in their decision and idk if going to community college is worth the living expenses anymore
Does John know what equity is? It's not the value of your house. He messed that up with the second caller
I feel so sorry for the older lady 🥺
John is 100% right. The data is out…the MAJORITY of women are happier at home. Men are happier and feel more fulfilled bringing in the money. Mom works at home. Dad goes to work. Statistics also show the children are better for it as well.
Almost like that’s how we were created? 🤔
Nobody is making $1200 a week on door dash lol
1:28:07 watch George go through the normal-sized doorway... 😆😆😆 He's so little!
That doorway does not seem normal.
He's 5'6", so that door isn't normal
What he doesn't have in height he makes up for in brains. I'd rather be short and smart like him😅
@carynbecker2752 I'm about the same height, so I don't see him as short lol.

What credit union in Louisville KY do you like?
1:02:00 don't couples talk about having kids, going back to work vs staying home (man or woman) prior to marriage? Don't they talk about their backgrounds and expectations arising from that? How do you get to the eighth month of pregnancy and not have come to some sort of agreement on whether one of the parents will stay home because no decision was ever made about it? This is not one of those things where you can "just see what happens." These kinds of discussions should have taken place while dating. And yes, I understand people can change their minds, but this couple doesn't seem to have come to any sort of agreement/decision. It's unclear if they ever really talked about it other than her mom worked outside the home, and his was a SAHM.
I'm waiting for a gay or queer couple to be on the debt free stage. I won't hold my breath. I doubt RS would allow it.
We live by the Bible; Jesus didn’t encourage sin. He sat with it. You don’t glorify sin. Be so for real
I highly doubt they ever would yes. They're trying to appeal to a large demographic. I'm sure RS doesn't have anything against gay relationships, but they would lose a huge fanbase if they were openly seen to be supportive of gay relationships.

Money is the Root of All Evil!
If the caller who lives in Atlanta with his shark trainer wife needs to stay in Atlanta that is understandable.
But it means finding a way to bring in more money. If they want to remain in their current jobs, they'll need side hustles.
He's an academic advisor and she trains sharks. They MUST have skills and knowledge that can serve them in side hustles.
Tutoring? College consulting? Dog trainer? TH-cam content creator with a shark focused channel? Downloadable educational materials for children about sharks? Adjunct at a community college?
If they want to stay where they are in the jobs they are in, they'll just be spinning their wheels if they don't add more income.
The phd has ‘sold his soul’ to stay employed at Ramsey. It’s incredible to watch a man, hide behind his degrees, to become a sellout.
"Don't do business with banks" - their advice. So NEVER get a mortgage with a bank?
Credit unions or mortgage brokers are usually the better choice for mortgages
@@carynbecker2752 OK, but I am sure most people still get their mortgages through banks. In our area there is only one credit union nearby and it is for veterans only. There are three major banks within 5 minutes of my house and my husband, who is not techno savvy, would never have agreed to an online bank not near our home, so a bank close to us is the only option for us. Our home is long since paid for and we have been very happy with the service from the "evil" bank throughout all these decades.
