Great story. It is the story of my life raising my son alone without ever receiving child support, moving 20 times to survive. He never even received a birthday or Christmas card from his father. He abandoned us while I was pregnant after 6 years of marriage and we never saw or heard from him again.
I raised my son physically on my own & FOUGHT for Child Support from his biological dad for almost 7 years. I had to do ALL the leg work to get this child support; $337 per month; finding him EVERY TIME he moved addresses, jobs, phone numbers, etc.. over the next 10 years after the established support. He NEVER offered nor helped physically raise his first born. He took me to court 3x, claiming I wasn’t using the $ on HIS son!! The judge got so sick of his insanity & ordered him out. Said that if she saw his name on any of hers or any other family court judge’s documents, she’d put him in jail for the maximum she could & fine him the maximum. His father finally decided to be a FULL TIME father only after his first born was 20. His biological, Arthur had a almost 2 year old son by this time & I guess he realized what he had missed out on. Almost 12 years later, our son is a “MEMBER,” of Arthur’s family.
The movie really brought back memories of a single mother, but in my situation after me and my husband were separated. I raised my 5 children without any support from their father even though we are not rich but thank God we survived, I'm nearly 60 yrs old now and doing fine running small business, bonding with my grandchildren sometimes, Today there is a law that single mothers have the right to claim support for their children.married or not married to the father. Unlike before.
Sadly this is so many women’s story. Men cheat, beat on them, etc and when they leave everyone treats the woman like she’s the problem. And the poor kids suffer while everyone’s trying to “prove” something to the woman about leaving. Pisses me off

I feel her pain. I raised my daughter on my own. Couldn't get no support from her dad. He died when she was 3yrs. And I still couldn't get any help after his death either. Lawyers are, a joke they only care about themselves and money. God forbid if they have a heart. I don't like lawyers and doctors.
Good movie! Hit home for me. This brought up so many memories of very similar circumstances. My ex went so far as to go from white collar job with good income to working under the table doing constuction work and odd jobs that he that he could get paid cash for just so he wouldn't have to pay child support. After a 20 year marriage my children and I fled to another to a distant town due to a domestic violence scene. We had little more than the clothes on our back. My husband told many of our friends and his family that I left him because I was having and affair. I was shunned at first, until everyone saw his true colors. At first we ended up on welfare for a short time-thank heavens it saved us until I could put my master's in education back to work and start a new life.
I wouldn't have waived alimony. Unless they weren't together long enough for her to receive it.🤷♀️ And, what in the hell kind of Asst. District Atty. Is that!?
What she said there is not correct: Promises are not made AFTER children had been conceived, but BEFOREhand, when getting married: To stick together and remain faithful to one another... To continue showing up - for one another and one's children - despite obstacles along the way.
Fo anyone struggling to feed your children. Eggs, bacon, sausage is healthier than cereals, both hot and cold. Proteins and fats will keep their bellies full longer also.
Good movie brought so many memories back, when my two children Were younger. Their father's never bought them anything. It was very hard At the time. Their fathers got with newgirlfriends & started buying their kids, Everything they needed. That was a bloody kick in the face, towards my babies & myself 😢

@sandw2515 Not all laws on the land are from God. We have laws like safe abortion in the land, but the heavens don't approve it. We equally have some part of land with the law of same sex marriage, and the heavens disapprove of this. Remember, Jesus said you can't be of the world, and of the heaven ( lukewarm), you should either be cold or hot.
How sad for children to grow up without both their parents' presence. Yes, it's challenging, humiliating, and beyond tough to stick with an unfaithful spouse; that is if they are still willing to stay on... To keep on forgiving, and trying to make it work - somehow. The sacrifice is worth the effort though, for the sake of providing at least some basic securities and stability for one's children; this instead of stepping out into the cold, and struggling along on one's own. Is there not the hope that - through God's grace - he/she will turn from their wickedness? In this case for example, how much better it would have been - for their two boys especially - had the couple forgiven one another, and got reconciled?
Idk why she didn’t stay with her parents? I get that it’s not ideal but it seems like it would’ve been better for her kids for a time. However she made great things happen from her experience & that’s what counts!
Yes, in such difficult times it certainly can help if (extended) family support each other, but this lady was too independent and strong willed for that 😅

Those elderly parents could also have benefited - for a time at least - until she was financially better off - from the physical assistance and companionship of their daughter and young grandsons.
So family members are too toxic. I separated from my ex-husband and went back to my mother's house. The same family that was supposed to support me is the same family that judged me. Some pretend to be my husband's friend more than me. God blessed me, I got a good job, got myself an apartment, enrolled my daughter in a private school. 10 years down the line, I still have siblings that would be backbiting me with my ex-husband.
i 70 and life was hard when i was child there were 8 and no money my father never worked was drunk all time i swore my child would never live what i did

in WA state it did change a bit back in the late 80s or 90s... at least to charge the non paying parent fees for non pymt, whereas in the early 80s, when i was not getting support. i had to pay 15% of the total for support enforcement! that helps women a little but, i don't know what the deal is now. -- last thing he said as he walked out: "You'll end up in the gutter without me." 6 yrs later i graduated college & had the best paying job of any woman in my family, with 5 week's paid vacation the 1st year! sadly, 12 yrs later he decided to die. p.s. i've been a widow for 16 yrs & thinking abt getting married. all kids are grown. i just want to live in peace & harmony......... i know that's possible since the opposite means someone is being unreasonable.... he has been widowed for many yrs, as well so, LOL, i 'think' we both know the value of peace & harmony without living alone! That wasn't the case im a single mom of 6 and support my children all on my own why there dads get to live there life stress and worry free. I'm order support all 3 are order $25 a month each and ones ordered $290 a week. I don't see a penny never have nor will I ever. It's so wrong and unfair. To the single parent doesn't matter what gender to get stuck supporting plus caring for children we didn't make or decided to keep on are own. I love all my children but it's hard sometimes I feel like im drowning and cant get my head up for air. But I do it every day because I'm all my children have. So I can't give up or they suffer. The absence parent should be jailed till they decide to grow up and be a parent and if they do decided after a long jail stay they be put on a monitoring system to ensure they continue or go back to jail. I don't mean allow vindictive parents to have something as a weapon but the cases that are real with plenty of evidence and chances for these parent to prove there going to be parents. ❤ Child support I isn't a weapon or punishment it's to help support your children that you would do any ways if they were in the same household or sepreate!
This is a lesson from this video. Go straight for garnishing his wages at the time of divorce. That way you don’t get into this mess. Always garnish for child support or for spousal support. Doesn’t matter how good you think the man will be at paying up. They can change and get slack with payments as time goes on. GARNISH always, no exceptions.
Sadly this is too many women left w/o help from the dad of their kids. Things have never changed for the way our own social network in the USA has left nothing in place to assist the mothers who are left with kids with no help just from the father but from social welfare too. When I look back in 1968 the dad left w/another woman. Gave no concern for the 2 small girls welfare. I was told by the welfare social worker I would have to wait 2 months to see if the dad would come back. I was already behind in rent .. in the end we lost all our furniture and no car that was operable. No child care available. The years were done with years of hardship too long to go on here. I still look back on how from the beginning I should have saved just a small amount from each check for the six years before the dad fround another woman. I wonder at the callousness of the dad who just didn't care.
I hope this goes for men too... Some women take advantage and use the child support for themselves... I know a single dad that was suppose to get child support from the ex wive and till this moment he don't get any help... I know there is more single men out there that are also struggling...

What kind of a friend like that can help knows where the kids father is, but won't help. That is not much of a friend.

When a non-custodial parent doesn't pay child support💰, he/she usually works under the table. The person will only get away with it when he/she dies.
