    Wade is only 1 person linked to the lyrics of this hymn. There are much earlier and non Jacobite attributions, including to monasteries and kings.

    To "adore" a human king would have been to call him a God, like the Herodians who insisted that King Herod was the Messiah and the Second YHWH. Wade was at Douay. He was a Jacobite, not a heretic.
    So yeah, it's an interesting theory, but Bennett Zon should have realized it was full of nonsense. Blackbirds are one thing; stealing God's place from the Baby is quite another.
