Thanks @theXtory - Of course I didn't come looking for this until AFTER I completely disassembled my XO. My XO is 4+ years old and in real need of a deep clean. I didn't have any real issues reassembling it due to your excellent description and clear video of the components. The index mark on the primary gear is key. All back together, functioning like new, very modest gear lube. Thanks!
I would say try and pull the clamshell off. It could be that something is bound in the gears or something isn’t aligned properly. Does the trigger actuate or is it stuck? If the trigger is actuating but it won’t open then it is certainly a gear issue. If the trigger is bound and won’t operate than something is preventing the trigger from moving, and you can start there. If you’ve only used it a couple of times and it is having problems I would look into a warranty replacement/ take it back to the shop you bought from and see if they can work something for you.
Probably best to take it back down and use soap and water to clean. Use a toothbrush to scrub. Probably better to use a food grade lubricant or something like coconut oil. Lessons learned on my end.
Why would i put gun/lube on something that im going to be using to cut my cigars? You really dont even have to take it apart like that. Blew it out w/some air, couple drops of coconut oil. Good to go.
I’ve owned one of these for several years now. There is a very large amount of buildup that you can get in the recoil spring and throughout the clamshell that air doesn’t/won’t get out. This video is just for the individuals who’s cutters won’t work nicely even after a basic clean. As for the coconut oil I’m all about that idea. I’ve never had issues using wd40 or gun CLP on mine as long as you don’t use a liberal application, and avoid the blades. I’ll try the coconut oil idea, though I’m curious to see how it does attracting lint and dirt etc from carrying in my pockets
@@ethanfisk8094 it'll attract about the same ammount of lint as the clp. I keep mine in a little leather sleeve when on the go to circumvent the issue altogether. Wish they would have just put some fuel window type set up to eliminate the issue altogether while still giving a nice view of the gears and keeping stuff out.

My xikar XO is stuck in the closed position, and I've onky used it 3 or 4 times. Any suggestion on how to get it unstuck?

Way too many parts to go wrong.
Agreed, I'm considering buying the xikar x8 due to its simplicity and plastic body will be more forgiving on the sharp edges.
