This scene is why people saying that Ralsei is nothing more than a one-dimensional nice guy is such a bad argument. He's self-aware giving an explanation as to why he acted the way that he did, and is going through a bit of an identity crisis to find himself. He's not poorly written, he's exactly how he's supposed to be at this point in the story.

There's way too much romantic undertone for Ralsei to be Asriel. The constant blushing, the fact that there's a joke in the first chapter about Kris and Ralsei kissing, the entire boat scene. Toby wouldn't egg the fanbase on like this if they were related.

Yeah, I thought about the fact that every other fountain has caused that lands rulers to change and become evil or whatever, so what if it's the same with Ralsei? I'm thinking he's gonna try and keep Kris in the dark world or something along those lines. Also I wouldn't be surprised if he was hiding something on the top floor, or behind the big door where the cauldron is.

The only reason we're destroying these other dark worlds is because they throw the balance off. So I think because Ralsei is from the "original" dark world, so to speak, he's able to exist in any dark world. That's my theory anyways.

If you think about Ralsei being Asriel or a part of Asriel, it really makes this scene feel like a brother trying his very best to be there for his sibling, even if his identity gets changed and warped
