Thanks for sharing this video I really appreciate you showing the inside bearings at the end no other video showed this, looks like I have one more seal left to go. I'll drill it out carefully like you did👍🏼
7 DOLLARS for the part at rock auto , going to try this while still mounted to the truck , just so i don`t have to clamp it down . Thank you for the screw tips idea , great job , thank you for sharing .
WHEN THE BOX IS O THE CAR,, PULL THE CLIP THEN WITH CAR RUNNING TURN WHEEL IN FULL TURN THEN RACE THE ENGINE,, WITH THE PITMAN ARM IN PLACE EVERYTHING WILL JUST BLOW DOWN AND THEN JUST INSTALL THE NEW.. STEERING BOX NOT REMOVED!
Did you get it back together? you can do this on the truck also by removing the sector shaft out the top and replacing all the seals that way. It's about the same amount of work either way.
Thanks for sharing...I wanted to see what it looks like as my girlfriend's is leaking...I think I'd hang it upside down from where it is even if I had to lay on my back to drill it...at least that way the gravity would be in your favor with the drill shavings.....
The seals looked like they came right out......i hope mine do...im going to attemt my 07 silverado...do u think its possible to do it without taking box out?...i know it will be a lot of up and down...how is yours holding up?
just take a grinding wheel and make a relief cut in the pitman arm. GM Part #26002516 (Pitman Shaft Seal Kit). GM Part #15825938 may also work too. Mine is just leaking at the pitman arm shaft so I'm not going to open up the entire box and do a full rebuild like others do.
I especialice in rebuild power steering box and the way you did it make me sick all you have to do is get the four bolts from the back of the cover and pull out the out put shaft and then get those seals
What is your suggested way of doing it correctly? Mine is leaking badly and I'm stumped on how to remove the seals without doing the same drilling/ screw techniques demonstrated above. In all seriousness I'd much appreciate knowing how to do this the right way!
@Mark Magoo No worries Mark, everyone on the internet is an expert at everything ;) I watched another video by Chris Craft on here about rebuilding a saginaw power steering gear box. Long story short remove the pitman arm with a puller and remove the 4 bolts that hold it in on top of the box, whole assembly comes out and you can replace seals. Use a socket as a round punch to knock out/ press in a new bearing if you want to replace it too.
@Mark Magoo I pulled the box, it's not that hard. Had an extra one to throw in. It's only held to the frame with 3 bolts, disconnecting the steering shaft and power steering hoses are a bit more of a pain but not complicated whatsoever. Having the box out on a bench also allows for re-tightening the box to get rid of slop, there's a write-up over at thetruckstop website that covers this.
Good job using the screws to dig in & pull the seals out. That is exactly how I got my seals out.

That's pretty good you gotta pull out the roach clips to fix the truck😂😅😂
oh, there's the snap ring. Thanks great help.
You just another big thumbs up from someone about to do the very same thing. Oh Joy..!
don't have the right tools what makes it love it man
he doesn't have the right tools but he makes it work love it man thanks
The same seal is out on my 2011 chevy 2500hd. The screw trick worked on the top half of the seal, but the bottom is steel and won't budge.
Bottom seal should be the easiest

Yeah, great trick when it works.
Thank you

Could a small pick be used to remove seals or are they stuck in there after use?
I’m not sure, that was several years ago, I think I probably made the job harder than it should’ve been
thanks. for the info vato.
i didnt drill a hole, just drove the screw into the seal....regular wood screw
The same seal went out on my 98 f150 254,xxx miles

all you had to do is take top 4 bolts off and remove Pittman shaft from top, and knock seals out the bottom.
Haha..that would’ve been useful to know
seriously? what about the bearings?
@@glnset-apart the shaft will come out
i gave up smoking cigs and drinking now i have enough money to buy tons of tools instead of fighting with the parts.
You're just a parts changer. Real mechanics work with what they have, fix it on the spot
@@israbriz1772 really? sooo your saying just because a person has the correct tools to do a job they are not a "real" mechanic?
@@butterbean4195 a real mechanic can get the job done with or without the correct tools. In or out of the shop the hmjob gets done

Surgical Forceps a Good Idea to pull that C Clip out,,,,, as it clamps down after in the two holes...
De cual carro es ?
Good deal brother that's how we do it, adapt and overcome👊👊👊
Great job!
What’s the part number I have the exact same truck 1985 Nissan 720 but no one seems to know the part number... need help
Good teather
Clever bro.
Is it worth changing seals? Or just replace it
Or did it start leaking again?
Part 2
Hold sledgehammer on one side
& Strike on other side will loosen
Every time
This is a great video... On how not to replace the seal kit, SMH.
I went about the hard way but it did work out, I know a little more about it now
So post a vid or stfu.
See? Easy to be a snarky dickbag.

Do you know about the power steering system on a 1970 Dodge D309?
Rose _ yes

Maybe you should make a video and help other people…🤔 think about it… a lot of people would be thankful

Easiest I've EVER seen a seal come out of there
This is a perfect video on how not to do it. i have to admit though i watched the hole video and it crack me up, its text book stuff.
