Hell, I made really shitty dubstep remixes at 13 but I knew I was bad so I never released them but after a few years I got better and started making good music that was releasable. It pisses me off how rich parents give kids whatever they want and they have such a high ego it actually pisses me off.
Well I am a 14 y/o music producer. My first "techno mixes" from when I was about 9 y/o (I started out on an old MacBook with GarageBand) were also *REALLY* crappy, but I admitted to myself that I sucked and as time went on I would improve. And I did after years went on. Dramatically. After 2-3 years I started to understand the basics of compression, EQing, mastering, etc. It just took time to improve in those areas. The only problem with this guy is that he doesn't take his time to experiment with what he has. I'm pretty sure he STILL doesn't understand what a compressor is or how to properly work with an EQ. He probably thinks he knows what he's doing with the equipment he has but he really doesn't. I'm sure this kid's parents pirate his software and bought all of that equipment for him when he doesn't even know how to use most of it properly. The stupid thing is is that he makes money off of his work. (surprisingly)

Dude in the music industry age is not a factor, if you're good you're good, if you're shit you're shit. If this kid keeps getting praised for this 'music' he's gonna assume that he is doing nothing wrong, which would mean he'd never improve. The music industry is tough, we got so many underrated artists out there making better music than most, and then we got this kid who plays with Harmor presets and likes to turn the bass all the way to like 12db.
Music much like all art is subjective to the interpreter whats good and what's bad is only relevant to your own personal taste . At the end of the day half of the people you think suck are good to someone so saying whats good and whats bad is completely pointless . I might not personally like the style of music he enjoys but there is a market for it and there are a lot of fans of artists like Flume and Martin Garrix that obviously validate that what they are doing has some value to people . Same goes with improvement especially in the mixing world. There are a lot of great old house records that were barely fucking mixed or eq ed at all and they still shaped what is considered today to be modern house music so the whole notion that you have to be an engineer to make a good song is bullshit . This kid isn't talking about how he wants to change the game in music or anything all this video was about was an 11 year old that is making electronic music for fun not once did he say he was an expert you all reading way too fucking far into this. You know what if he did get notoriety from his music as it stands now i would rather it be him then some of the arrogant pricks that i talk to on IDM and other forums that think they are the next Jean Michel Jarre or something. At the end of the day those of us that do make music for fun are no different then this kid we might know some different things but we are all just fucking around.

Whay 82Hz and below frequencies that he's lifting with a low shelf is a mud that all good producers either try to get rid of completely or make it as least noticeable and distracting as possible. Even bass heavy tracks demand more precise treatment than just grabbing and rocketing it in the sky.

I'm a "young composer" too so I had total respect for this guy until he said "I'm only 11" in rebuttal to "His music isn't as good as other producers". This line is so untrue. There is a famous quote from legendary composer Han Zimmer "The greatest musical ideas come from some kid in a garage stuck in the Bronx". You can't say that because your 11 you can't come up with good ideas and musical concepts. Musical ideas are not limited by age and budget. The greatest masterpieces come from an impoverished Bach on his deathbed and a 7-year-old kid practicing piano.

What I think she's talking about is that he has a lot of _spare_ time still being in school, without a job and stuff to compete with while getting a lot of time off with holidays, in addition to being young. I started in highschool and trust me all that spare time in holidays does wonders for your music. You are right though, even though I have work and uni and stuff to get around, I have years and years to spend on music, but he's got an advantage because he can afford to concentrate on it much longer than most people out of school.

BlazertronGames It is boosting the low end. The reason why it didn't do anything was either that the kick had no low end (quite unusual) or that your speakers or headphones are bad and can't go that low.

He bought all that equipment did he? Seems a nice kid and good on him for showing an interest so early, but it goes to show how shit ''EDM'' is when 11 year olds are relevant producers. An 11 year old may be able to emulate other songs but he isn't really going to come up with anything decent. No experience of dance culture, no clubs, no loud systems, no involvement within a scene, no history of listening to anything.. The music won't be of any personal relevance, just a clone of other stuff. Sample packs too. This is exactly what electronic music doesn't need more of. If I were his dad, I'd show him the proper way and not let him go down the wrong path. Hopefully he'll mature and move onto proper electronic music, not ''EDM'' which is about as relevent to dance music as McDonalds is to food.

U GOT REKT M8 There are absolutely no rules when it comes to sound design. Ofc that kind of low-shelf boost seems like a weird choice, but if it affects the sound in a positive way you can always do some more audio surgery afterwards to cut out the negative effects it created.

Don't get me wrong I do use EQ,
But I take it easy and only make subtle cuts and boosts.
But this kid obviously does not care about EQ'ing anyways (not yet).
Creativity is what matters at his age.
The sound engineering part comes later.
