The drought-resistant, circular formations are known as Tolou Keur. They’re gardens made up of edible vegetation & medicinal plants. Their circular shape helps with water retention and composting, allowing the roots to grow toward the center, as well as trap bacteria.

Hate to break it to you, but those projects can only stop or slow down desertification. You can't turn the desert into green land under the current and the projected climate.
The circular gardens need artificial watering, that means, that they are located in the northern longitudes of the Sahel. 20 or 30 years ago, nearly no one practised agriculture there. The need for cultivating that ground comes from the rapid population growth in the Sahel.

If you look at the mountainous Inca ruins, especially at Machu Pichu, there is something very similar. Sets of concentric circles which archaeologists believe to be something like an experimental agricultural set-up - though looking at this, perhaps they'd gone past the experimental and the circles (which are at different heights running down to the centre) were the final outcome. There are still people using the watering system there. It's a very old agricultural system, but that doesn't mean that it's not the most efficient and effective way to farm in particular areas.
Good luck to them all, I hope it's a massive success and that they never know hunger again.

They also implement this in Brazil btw. Incas and other pre-Colombian cultures invented the terra preta which was an awesome invention allowing them to cultivate with higher yields on soils that might be poor. It has been a widespread technique from what said the archeological evidences. Some theories say that the abundance of the tropical forest we know comes from this technique after some farmlands using it were abandoned.

The interconnected relationships of fungi, bacteria, and plant roots are only now being being taken as seriously as what’s above ground. I love this idea of concentric rings of different plants which you could strategically choose to benefit other rings underground. A lot of farmers do this with nitrogen-fixing trees between fields, but the even closer proximity and larger diversity could be even more beneficial.

@@Soken50 Yea, where even some tribes helped enslave others for the sake of not being enslaved themselves or for monetary valve. Either way Africa needs it. Man will always allow corruption if the intent is there.

In 1973 when climate change was not in the news Algeria planted across the width of its desert 1500km a green wall (Barrage vert). In the late 70s a Chinese delegation came to see how it was done and learned from the experience and used it to start the fight against desertification in China.

Very important message. A bit too late for me. I have rooted elsewhere now, plus I am from the southern part of Africa - very different people. As different as an Italian vs. German.
People tend to think all Africans are the same, we are not. I have zero history of slavery where I come from. We were never affected by that - but where this guy comes from, there was.
    Love your work.

This is the origin of the Swamp from Avatar, a few centuries later Aang, Katara and Sokka are gonna have hallucinations here.
In all seriousness though, this is great and innovative.

Could this mean that crop circles are signs from beyond meant to simply instruct farmers of a more sustainable agricultural method?

Method actually comes from Mandingo empire. It's how Africans used to build homesteads, and utilized animal and human waste as fertilizer; and ensuring that a lot of the water used went to plants. It began about 5k years ago when the lower Sahel was forming into a desert. I believe this iteration is acquired from the native American cultures (which were visited and traded with, by ancient Africans). A good show on the importance of cross cultural exchange.

interesting, wouldn't it be something if many of the Earth's old ruins, similar to this where just small farms or gardens, instead of being some kind of religious or star meaning? Perhaps things are and have always been simpler.
