I was going to spend this rainy day working on some projects but ended up setting up my tree stand to film hunts this year. The camera i use is pretty unique, in that it is powerful and cheap! Made a video to tell you a bit about it.

I have the same Lumix DMC-FZ70 camera and use it for hunting. I bought if used years ago and paid $179. I love it. Yes, I can be used as a spotting scope. The flash stopped working years ago but it was wimpy anyway. I don't think the low-light capability is very good at all. I recently got water on it and now the digital display doesn't work. I ordered a new display for about $10. I watched a "how to" on the Internet to see if I'd be able to install a new screen....not easy but probably doable. I'm only out $10 if it doesn't work and then I'll buy another used one. The camera still works, except for the screen, and I have to use the "eyeball" window to aim the camera. Forgot to mention....I think the DMC, in the model number, means Digital Mirrorless Camera. Tom
That’s awesome Tom, it sure is a good camera. I dropped it out of a tree stand and broke the screen as well but everything works just got a big gash lol

That is insane! That has to be the best budget camera I’ve ever seen
Crazy right? I’ve dropped it out of a tree stand on more than one occasion and it fell into a paint bucket last week. Still running strong
I use a Lumix FZ300, Its been a great camera. Shoots in 4K, Has good Zoom with built in stabilization. And is weather proof for all the rain and snow. It cost around 450$ I think its a lot of camera for the money considering a new gopro cost around the same. Only draw back i feel is the small sensor size, so its not the best at low light. Good video keep it up!
I’ll have to check it out! I just subbed and watched a few vids on your channel and the scenery and footage looks awesome. I unfortunately dropped mine out of a deerstand as well as into a bucket of paint (don’t ask 😂) and it’s still running but I’d like to get something new. Thanks for watching dude!

Great videos! I am enjoying them a lot. We grew up & lived in Kentucky most of our lives except for a 6-year stint in North Carolina. Beautiful country in the Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee and upstate New York. However, the cold weather started getting to us pretty bad, so after retirement we moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. We miss home but not enough to move from Florida. I have several videos on TH-cam when we traveled the country in our motorhome and also when I was renovating a double-wide when we first moved to Florida. Keep up the good work!

So ive started filming with a iPhone and im looking to buy a good camera for next hunting season do u still recommend this camera how much is it and u said u cant hook up a external mic to it so does that mean the internal mic is really good? And u said u only need one lense or does it come with that one in the video where u can zoom in like 400 yards
Hey Vic, check out my latest video of the turkey spot and stalk (not trying to promoting my video lol) but the whole thing was filmed on that camera.
I still love it and use it for any hunting situation. It’s versatile and only has the one lense. In fact you can’t even remove it, the whole camera is one piece. There is a fz80 that came out that’s a bit more expensive and can do 4k if you’d rather do that. But yes would recommend it all day it’s a hidden gem. I use it as a spotting scope and bring it in the car with me in case I see something cool driving around. I’m not sure how much it costs off the top of my head but I put a link in the description.

Does this have night mode? And what’s the best camera arm? No mic needed? Do you do another angle when hunting
Hey bobby I’m not sure about the night mode I don’t think so. I use the muddy basic camera arm and it has a built in mic and no outlet for an external mic. I sometimes have a gopro on a head mount

It’s been invaluable! I forgot to bring it when I checked my trail cams yesterday and had 3 bucks show up at 100 yards and couldn’t get a good look at them!
@dawgshuntingandfishing unfortunately don’t really have a good pair. I dropped em out of a tree stand and now it’s more of a monocular haha

Im really late and you probably won't answer but for the tripod mount is that the standard 1/4 inch size like for screwing onto your tree mounts
Hey man, better late than never 👍🏻 yup it’s the same 1/4 inch as my other tripod, though the mounts vary a bit in shape so they aren’t interchangeable. But as for the mount on the tree stand arm, it is 1/4 inch

Yes but you're also into digital zoom which is garbage in every camera. Its the absolute worst scenario for video quality. If using it for a spotting scope, hell why not.
Absolutely, but unfortunately, the other option is significantly more expensive. The people this video is aimed at prioritize affordability and specific features, much like a GoPro’s purpose. I’ve switched to a mirrorless camera, but the high cost of lenses has been a major obstacle to upgrading. It’s not that the lenses aren’t worth it; they just pose a substantial barrier to me in terms of upgrading.
@@jakefromupstatefarm I agree lenses are ridiculous. BTW, like the channel name. I find the limiting factor especially in hunting is light and getting it into a sensor with good quality while maintaining stable footage. It really does depend on what someone wants in the end. I would say if their goal is to share that footage you have to pay the piper unfortunately. I'm running an M50 but its days are probably numbered. I cant crank the iso high enough even with a fast aperture. I'm missing easily the first 45 and last 45 mins in dense forest. Gear definitely doesnt define good story but they have us by the balls when it comes to hunting footage.
That’s for sure, that’s the mirrorless I have as well, which ef-m lenses do you run? My buddy who runs a big hunting channel uses a canon camcorder so I thought about trying to get that but if I could find a good lense it’d be cheaper
I just picked one up use 175. 00 . My iPhone and my GoPro doesn’t do justice. I am cheap 🤪
