I used two buckets and connected them with velcro, you honestly dont need it unless you want it to open very wide. The tree holder will do must of the holding.

This plastic bucket must not be made the same anymore. Every time I cut the plastic bucket, it cracked. I went to out the bucket at the bottom of my tree and it cracked in half. I’m so bummed out.

Yes, you can do it with just one bucket for the pencil tree. I used two just to make my wider.
