    You and your wife are quite the crew! That is the spirit that made this country the greatest.
    I hope there are going to be enough people like you left to rebuild the country when it all hits the fan.
    I'm prepping like never before, as I see some very dark clouds on our horizon. God bless everyone.

    Your wife is a very hard worker. Not many women would tackle drum brakes, demo, and all that DA sanding. You are truly blessed, to have such a good mate in life!

    "Trash to Treasure" are my favorite kind of videos to watch.I'm a big fan of keeping things out of the landfill as much as possible. This is a two-fer! Helping out a friend and also saving something that could have many more years of service. Good job!

    Wow, Your wife did an amazing job. And she redid the brakes. Some of the newer mechanics can't rebuild the older style brake shoes like that. My hat is for your wife. She did a great job. You both have it looking good. Thumbs up.

    Great job for the both of you! In my early years I re-painted one like yours. Had a twin cartridge respirator but the fumes trickled through and gave halucinations . Part of a learning curve, sadly. You two are the best!

    New sub here. I found your channel last week and I just want to say I love your videos. I don't work on musical instrument and I don't have a need for a repair on one. All's I got is cheap Ukuleles I plunk on every now and then and I was looking at mandolins on the interwebs and found your channel. I really enjoy your sense of humor , watching you work and seeing the amazing craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing your craft with us!

    Jerry and Sue.....love ALL the videos, but this is also great! When life gives you a horse trailer you make it better! I'm sure it will be like brand new when you guys are finished. Probably better! That's the way you do things on this channel! Can't wait for Pt. 2! Thanxz

    Wow! nice work, your wife is definitely a hard worker! Most women I know are scared of an angle grinder! I certainly hope the summer is long enough for her to get it painted! I would suggest an armour coat budget allowing of course. It will be bulletproof!

    Great job...Got into much the same deal on a pickup bed trailer my wife committed to buying from some friends of hers over the phone, sight unseen. I didn't really need another trailer, but they needed the money so we went to get it. Sad, sad shape...no tailgate, bedsides were falling off, half the bed floor metal was gone, bent everywhere from tossing junk in it, the tires rotted off and the hitch had been 'stolen' from the tongue. It cost me about the same price I paid for the trailer just to get it back home. Kicker then was...No title! So it is now my burn barrel, which has worked out well...when it gets halfway full of non burnt stuff I haul it with the tractor down to the farm dump and empty it out. To much money in it to sell and to bad of shape to put on the road, so it is at it's permanent last stop for usefulness.

    My sweetheart is like a two year old...2 speeds, full speed or asleep. she gets more done than I do at my slow and steady on speed. OCD is sometimes pushed on us just saving the project. LOL! Just imagine the bluegrass music that horse trailer will put out when done. Regards, Solomon

    Great job so far. I admire your work, welding is a lot more difficult than it looks. I’m sure that the trailer is going to work out fine, you’re not the sort of person that gives up easily and your wife seems to be the same, she must have put a lot of hours into that trailer already.

  • @MobilMobil-kv5ke
    @MobilMobil-kv5ke 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rather than plywood, I use half inch livestock rubber mats. I use carriage bolts with clearance holes to fasten it to walls and doors. It’s impervious to urine and moisture and is easy to clean. It’s also quieter and a great shield when the horses start kicking the walls in impatience.

    • @blackdandelion5549
      @blackdandelion5549 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I agree the cost difference and cost of rubber mats, plus it depends on the thickness you are using, are not cheap. For my own trailer hands down I would do it this way as it's only about when the horses are in the trailer, but after they have used it many people like to be able to easily rinse out every "non-scoopable" and when you have wood it will eventually go bad and not have a place to drain correctly or a place where the water wells up.

    I'm juealous of your welding capabilities. I learned how to oxy-acetalene weld back in junior high, but haven't used it since, and that was nearly 50 years ago. I have been thinking of getting myself a small welder and seeing if I can make a go of it, there have been plenty of times it would have been a useful skill. And now with the various welders available, it seems like a good time to relearn an old skill.

      Roughly is just approximate. Keep in mind I'm used to measuring in thousands of inch. Even that is approximate with a caliber. You have to use a micrometer to be exact. Just saying. LOL

    That "tig" welder looks like a stick welder to me. (One welder I know told me that coming from stick welding, a tig is like dancing with a pretty girl.) That spacer set on the plasma cutter is pretty ingenious. I've not heard the term "farm-fixed" before. :-) Looks like the two of you have a pretty good handle on the whole thing. I know you know it, but you're a lucky man to have a wife like that. No trolls yet, but thumbs up just in case.

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a combination TIG and stick welder. I was obviously using the stick side of it that time.

    I would like to make a suggestion, please. Could you put some sheet metal on the floor under the wood as a safety backup? Let me explain first that about 25 years or so back my family and I happened upon what we thought was a wreck but soon found out that a farmer was transporting his horse, in a trailer that looked a lot like your new one, when tragedy struck. As we passed by (Sheriff and others were already on scene ) we got a close look at a haunting scene, that to this day I still think of it every time I see a horse trailer.
    As the farmer was traveling the wood bottom busted out and the horse's rear legs fell through to the road and were dragging and ground to pieces until someone stopped the farmer, but by then the poor horse had bled out and died. What a terrible way to go.

    • @blackdandelion5549
      @blackdandelion5549 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm so sorry that happened. It was not a first and likely won't be a last. This is more of a trailer maintenance issue where every X many years the floor simply needs to be replaced and these are not delicate boards, but I have a 3 horse trailer so the weight of 3 full maybe 1,200 animals moving on these boards is at risk and a cheap horse can be $5,000 and an expensive one for the average owner can reach into the tens of thousands so these are not risks people normally take with their animals. The issue is that urine and other body functions eat away at wood faster than just water. We don't put metal under any level of the flooring because it holds water regardless of how well you think you have everything draining. What I can tell you is most or many people have a camera in their horse trailer to see how their horse(s) are doing in the trailer in back and we can feel every shake and movement in the cab of most pickups. A floor is either put in right or get it professionally done.

    I was wondering what type of plasma cutter that is. I have been looking for a cheap one, but it is hard to choose when you can't see them used. That looked like a nice working one. Thanks for another nice, interesting video.

    Wow Jerry your wife is one in a million , what a great job she’s doing 🙂
    Question Jerry . Whit is it with American workers and White socks? :- Andrew Caramata, Chris and his uncle on letsgig18 and then your good self ?
    Is it the cool part of the workers uniform 🤔😀 over in the uk it’s dark colours so they don’t show the dirt so much. Also no one seems to wear coveralls to keep clean ? Thanks for the great videos, love them. you are a talented guy !!!
    Ps. Welding not looking to shabby 👍🇬🇧

  • @ThePreyMantas

    She DOES DO autowork too! Hot Damn..! LOL :) Did you do the diagonal dimension check for hitting squareness on the panels? I know you tacked the back panel in on the outside, just wondering what the plan is for making the outside of the panel watertight? You're probably right about the water rusting out the bottom lip. Might want to add some edge seals after she's all fitted back together to keep water from getting in the bottom edge and swelling the wood out. You're putting all the effort in, might as well do it right. LOL. :) Great job so far!

    Is the roof able to be replaced on these horse trailers?

    • @blackdandelion5549
      @blackdandelion5549 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. These are all sheet metal that has simply been welded together. Other channels who do more welding specific jobs have cut the top of the trailer off as it was not worth taking the old paint and rust off as you would have been able to stick arms through the holes and patches would have looked like "farmer fixes". The roof itself is normally taken off directly above the part just above the windows on the trailer and a new one can be fashioned with sheet metal and attached and then everything is repainted. The roof normally requires at least 3 coasts of paint however as it has the most weather heavy job from the sun, snow, etc. unless it is stored inside.
