  • Day four. May 10th : We arrived Skagway at 7 a.m.
The water shuttle service starts around 7:30 a.m., whisking passengers to and from the shores of Skagway, with each journey spanning approximately 20 minutes. The final water shuttle departs from Skagway at 7:30 p.m., ensuring travelers have ample time to enjoy the scenic views and explore the town's attractions throughout the day.
Skagway is a small, picturesque town, nestled at the northern end of the Lynn Canal, a deep fiord. The economy of Skagway is predominantly driven by tourism. The population of around 1,000 residents swells significantly during the summer months, when cruise ships frequent its harbor.
"Alaska King Crab Legs and Fresh Halibut Fish and Chips : Their signature dish, the Alaskan crab legs.
"Salty Siren Eats and Tap House" is known for its gourmet burgers, like the "Siren’s Catch" and the "Mountain Burger" .
The iconic green and yellow 'White Pass' train is a historic narrow-gauge railway that operates on the White Pass and Yukon Route, which stretches from Skagway to Yukon.
We opted for a more scenic and relaxing stroll along Pullen Creek to reach the city center.
The journey aboard the 'White Pass' train features stunning vistas, including towering mountains, deep gorges, cascading waterfalls, and lush forests.
This train offers one of the most scenic and historically significant rail journeys in North America. Founded in 1897, the town rapidly developed as a critical gateway for prospectors heading to the Yukon goldfields.
The "Heart of Broadway", is a vibrant and bustling area that serves as the main thoroughfare and cultural hub of this historic town.
The Alaska Fur Gallery is a premier retail destination known for its exquisite collection of fur garments and accessories.
The Jewel Box caters to those seeking unique and elegant jewelry.
Jewelry Land is renowned for its diverse collection of fine jewelry and exceptional Alaskan gemstones.
We decided to embark on a hike to Yakutania Point. Leaving the historic downtown area, we headed towards the Skagway River, walking along Terminal Way as our route to the trailhead. The distance from the pier where we docked to the trailhead is approximately 1.5 kilometers. Just before arriving at the trailhead, we were greeted by the sight of a steel pedestrian bridge. As we crossed the 110-meter bridge over the Skagway River, the sound of rushing water filled the air, and we were treated to breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains rising dramatically against the sky. The bridge offered a perfect vantage point to pause and appreciate the raw beauty of the Alaskan landscape.
After crossing the bridge, we arrived at the trailhead, standing in awe at the edge of a picturesque woodland trail. The hike from the trailhead to Yakutania Point is considered relatively easy, with the trail being a mere 500 meters in length. As we continued towards Yakutania Point, the sounds of civilization faded away, replaced by the gentle rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds. The trail was well-maintained and clearly marked, making it accessible for hikers of all skill levels. The path wound gently through a grove of spruce and hemlock trees, their branches forming a natural canopy overhead. It meandered along the rocky coastline, offering spectacular views of the Lynn Canal and the surrounding wilderness. Ferns and mosses carpeted the forest floor, creating a lush, green blanket that was soft underfoot. Occasionally, the trail opened up to reveal stunning views of the coastline, where the deep blue waters of the Lynn Canal stretched out towards the horizon.
Yakutania Point awaited at the end of the trail-a rocky promontory jutting out into the water, providing an unobstructed vantage point to marvel at the natural splendor. The expansive vista included glimpses of distant glaciers and the rugged coastline stretching away into the distance. At Yakutania Point, we were presented with an option to continue along the picturesque coastline towards Smuggler's Cove, which is approximately 600 meters further from Yakutania Point.
