I've had a cockatiel and he was making loud sounds for at least a few minutes most days I'd say, and it can be very stressful and sometimes even annoying. To hear a sound that is a bit painful for your ears several times a day or for a bit many days a row is also a bit exhausting, so it's easy to say one would love to hear the sound more, but I can imagine even Dan at least sometimes think it's tough. This is of course not to say one feels less love for its family bird, but it is indeed important to know these things when or if getting one and I also think people should know this in cases when they think they could listen to it IRL all day long :P Anyways, I really did not plan to make this sound negative, my apologies for that, I just wanted to give some inputs on this kind of topic. Yep my Tiel randomly screams when I'm not around, so I could be sitting on the toilet and I just hear my tiel scream. And it is tough, but you live through it, heck I bet there are some sounds I make that my Tiel doesn't like but puts up with.

I made sure to let my neighbor's know not to call the cops on us - we really aren't puppy killers - it's just our cockatoo! Also, to add to what was said - it really is a daily thing with cockatoos. Imagine listening to a screaming cockatoo if/when you or others in your household happen to need extra sleep after working OT, have a migraine headache, or are simply not feeling well -- or you just a little peace and quiet after a hard day. I cannot count the number of times Smirnoff has woke up my husband who works more hours than anyone I have ever known and gets up earlier than what should be legal. He definitely needs every moment of sleep he can get and sleep is often interrupted because Smirnoff does a fair share of noise-making. Our decision to adopt a cockatoo was a joint one, both of us fully understanding what these birds are really like, so my husband takes it like a champ, but I can't say I know many people who would be as patient after working 12-14 hours - come home and crash - only to have their sleep interrupted by a screaming cockatoo because ... well ... just because!
This one had me in tears! He screams in every possible range and tone, and with increasing intensity and went through every sound that he knows. Really loves to hear his own vocalizations. OMG, that was my laugh for the day!

We had a neighbor with a parrot and he got tired of listening to it, so he put it on the patio in the AM. So we were blasted awake with his squawking and 'hello, I'm Nacho' over and over. These are lovely birds, but wow you need a quiet room for them. You have to know what you are getting into before getting one, or an amazing attitude and sense of humor like Max's owner.
I've been watching vids of Naughty Boi since I discovered him about 2 weeks and I am addicted! I'm a pretty bird, but he's even prettier--such lovely feathers. I swoon when Max gets sassy and floofy--sigh. Dan, you are the best Daddy and I am honored to be a new subscriber.
