As a Christian man myself, I am on both sides of the argument. I love Pre-Code cinema, unlike many of those within my same religious beliefs 90+ years ago. They do provide complex stories regarding violence, psychology, infidelity, drug use, etc. which are very interesting and nuanced. However, I will disagree with you that it was a type of "brainwashing." The whole idea of the League of Decency was that they believed that films of the Pre-Code type suggested a way of life that was antithetical to the teachings of Christ, and that it would influence the Christian people to act in ways synonymous to what was seen in the movies. Obviously I personally reject that sentiment because I am a believer and I have watched these films, and yet I haven't committed any of the negative actions that are depicted in some of these movies. But I can understand where their intentions laid.
Maybe not brainwashing, but it was certainly trying to impose their lifestyles, and I'm not much of a fan of trying to impose those types of restrictions in entertainment, although like everything it depends on the context
Look not to excuse what went on in 1933 but to pick apart King Kong because of the way natives on a secluded island were depicted in 2023 is a bit much. How should they have depicted? wearing tux's and top hats? I am sure the natives on this theoretical island would be closer in fact to the movie than however you think they should have been portrayed. This is my #2 movie all time due to the fact it was made in 1933 and other than maybe Peter Jackson's film no other remake can touch it. It has action , romance , greed , adventure and one of the most famous endings in movie history. If you mention King Kong the 1st thing most people would think of is the Empire state building., Fay Wray was hot, the lead guy was believable and Robert Armstrong played a sleazy movie producer very well. You are correct nothing bad happened to Denham, it's a fairy tail. Nothing happened to Jack when he dropped a giant beanstalk on his neighbors either.
Very good content! Thanks Im a subscriber now.
😊 Great work…I gotta’ think this is your longest production at almost 1 hr. 9 mins. How long did it take you to complete this thing?
About a month.
where do you get all those snippets of movies from?
@@treatmentbound Clips online, and I have the ability to get scenes from the actual movies themselves.
When you pull from a complete movie, is it from a streaming service, DVD, or an entire TH-cam download?
@@treatmentbound It's from my own computer or TH-cam, very hard to do it from a streaming service
I grew up watching the old King Kong, but in the 90's it wasn't so scary or violent. Just awesome.
Excellent deep dive into an overlooked topic.
Thank, it took me a while

I mean I agree they wouldn't have been done differently, it's an old adventure film, but in a modern context, it's very thorny.
