Going for winter Crappie I use live minnows hooked in from behind the dorsal fin above the spine. Thin, light hooks and line work best with small staggered splitshot. Let a bobber and your setup do the work keeping it a foot or two off the bottom. Keep it simple and have fun.
Wether setting tips ups for winter Pike or Trout, or jigging for Perch on a bait harness you can't beat using fresh live minnows. Make sure to match the size of bait to the target species, sucker minnow or cisco for larger fish and dace or daters for smaller fish. I like to use worms when fishing, I get my grandchildren to “help” cut the them and then thread them onto the hook. We go through all of worms rather quickly even when they are quartered. They catch blue gill mostly but catch small mouth bass, pumpkin seed, and the odd perch! They are learning how to cast because they catch so many! It’s a catch and release pond and barbless hooks. Every time I say “that’s the best $5 I’ve ever spent on an afternoon of fishing!”
Leeches 100%, jig them, Lindy rig them, spinner rig them, and bobber with them. Works great for walleyes all season. And for winter just keep the water cold and they will flatten out down deep where it’s warmer

Worms year round, but especially in the spring if you can find a dealer with crawfish, the bass go crazy for them!

Minnows when I'm perch fishing as that usually guarantees I catch something!

Walleye willow crawler with a nice big worm and tail on it. This usually gets us walleye, pike, bass and perch

Worms for sure. I aim for bass from my kayak or sunfish from the shore if the g. kids want to fish.
I like to use wax worms when targeting whitefish. They have smaller mouths so keep that in mind when selecting bait.
