Gusty session on a FRESH 9m FX2!!

  • This was my first time riding the FX2 since I broke my ankle almost a year ago! Just after I returned home from surgery my 2022 gear order arrived and my Fresh FXs were sitting there waiting to be used... Finally I felt strong enough to take this awesome kite out for a session!
Unfortunately the wind was super gusty so I decided to focus on having as much fun as possible and see how my ankle was feeling! The reason I only started riding the FX2 now is the fact that it's a tricky kite which takes a lot of effort to guarentee a soft landing - which for my ankle is absoloutley crucial to ensure I keep healing as fast aas I have been over the last few months!
At this point in my recovery it's importat to still take it slow and although my ankle is feeling good I can't afford to have a heavy impact on my board which could hurt the awesome progress I've been making so far! Still lots of pain during and after kiting, but my Bio and Physio are happy and want me to keep kiting through the pain and after a good few months the pain will slowly fade away! It's still a pretty stark reminder of the risks of what I'm doing and it's going to take a while to get rid of the mental blocks I've come across with some tricks.
Looking forward to continuing to document my progress! See you in the next one

Hey Camdyn! What's your thoughts on the fx2 for further kiteloop progression now that the nitro is here? Can get a good deal on a 9m fx2 and doubting to get one. Loved the fx1, but it can also be quite extreme in loops.

Hey Sander! Great question man! Like you say the FX and FX2 are pretty raw kites compared to some of the new big air options nowadays. For progression, the new generation bow kites (Nitro, XR, Edge etc) are incredible options and are substantially more forgiving with mistakes and will certainly bring you down smoother. However, depending on your level, a more difficult kite can actually be super beneficial for learning since you learn some lessons hard and quickly which will force you to get rid of certain bad habits very quickly! - but with a few hard crashes before. My reccomendation (for someone on a budget (especially with the cost of new gen kites!)) would be to look out for a second hand Nitro on the used market. I have been super impressed with the longevity of the new materials and even though theyre lighter and thinner, I haven't noticed substantial degredation like I have seen on other brands (EG Duotone SLS and DLAB) and I can feel these kites will serve pretty well for many years to come! The difference for learning loops on the Nitro vs the FX is absoloutley Night and day! My biggest reccomendation would be to (if at all possible) try demo both kites back to back and feel the difference on the same day with the same conditions. The Nitro is certainly more expensive but if you look after it well, it will serve as an investement and will last for a long time! In short - the Nitro is by far the best option for you. I would reccomend an 8m as it's by far my favorite size and the wind range is particularly good for those lower 20knt days all the way up to 35knt+
I hope this wasn't too confusing!
      🤙

@@camdynkellett6782 thanks a ton bro! Awesome thoughts and not confusion at all, makes total sense. Will demo the nitro too whenever I get the chance!

Does it loop tighter than a Moto ?
