  • These tricks will save you time and money the next time you throw a swimbait! We're covering when to throw an underspin, when a hollow belly is better than a paddle tail, and how to quit wasting so many keitechs! If you want to catch a swimbait fish this Spring, this is the video for you.
We cover basic rigging with weedless swimbait heads like the Owner Beast as well as traditional rigging with the Matt Allen swimbait head. Next we discuss the best underspins for a variety of circumstances and last we take it a step further and cover how to make your own underspins on the fly.
Below is a breakdown of all the swimbaits, swimbait heads, underspins, and terminal tackle discussed in the video.

Excellent video, this and all your videos are so well explained. I have learned so much from you and Tim. Thank you. I.agree with some of the other comments here, you and Tim should have more followers and maybe your own tv show. I’m not a newbie, Al Linder and Roland Martin were my fishing hero’s when I was first trying to learn how to fish. Those guys are still great but, your videos are so much more detailed and descriptive, taking time to show minor details that can make all the deference. Many of the pros don’t want us to know these little tips and tricks, but you guys are making us all better fishermen. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Over the next month he says shoot my water in eastern Kentucky are froze or wont produce.
During winter I learn the winter techniques that work in cali and flordia during winter for my early spring late fall. It'll happen.Thank you guys for the videos it keeps me hoping for bass. watching you guys through these months of draining lakes. learning these ways of fishing that works for us a little later. They keep me from going insane. Seeing these guys that can fish for bass all year long is kind of a florigen language. I was taught In winter you fish for blue gill or crappie and you catch big bass. That's my way of life. In may and June I can produce on the swim bait and on the crank bait its a different world. In different environment. I use your systems and apply them to me and they do amazing. My friend caught a 8 pond bass of an all white spinnerbait when I didn't think it would catch anything. In 35 degree water with hydrilla taken over out local lake. Crystal clear water used to scare me until I watched a few videos through Tacticalbassin. Thank you guys for all you teach us. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST! Keep up the good work my wife has been getting on to me because im watching all your old videos. The other day she said she learned all about flipping and pitching just from me sitting there listing to it while I was playing with my baitcaster. Pitching into trees while I was listing to your video on my speaker.

Hey Michael! While on the one hand I'm really glad you're taking the info and shifting it to your seasons (that's exactly what you should do) I also hope you know there are guys near you that manage to fish year round. We've got some friends in Ashland and they're still bass fishing right now. Its hard work... they were pushing a bit of ice a couple weeks ago, but they're still getting out there. Your bass will bite year round, its just a matter of how cold you want to be, but know that if the cabin fever gets too intense it can be done on your local fisheries.

Been upgrading the springs for awhile now, and I keep the old springs to put into the front of dropshot baits that I'm gonna nosehook. The spring gives the Dropshot bait more longevity, as nosehooked baits can get shredded pretty quick on a good bite with the smallmouth. Anyhow, hope this helps someone, great video as always.

Thank you for sharing this great information with us, Matt! The information you present in this video will be a great help in selecting those last few items I need to be ready for my bass fishing season to be off to a great start!
I have to let you and Tim know that both of you and this channel have really helped me step up my game for bass fishing. My equipment and techniques have vastly improved over the last year and a lot of the credit for that belongs to Tactical Bassin.
You guys test and review equipment and I usually end up buying what I can from the good stuff a little, (and sometimes a lot!) ,at a time! For this reason my wife doesn't share my enthusiasm for your channel, but she does loves me, so it is all good here. Lol!

I've added the underspin to my arsenal over the winter. These mid to small swimbaits both with and without an underspin have been very effective for me. I began running the underspin below balls of shad when bass have been active and it has proven very effective. I've landed several good sized bass this winter with that methodand crawling a swimbait on bottom is a fun option to a ned rig. Great lesson, Matt!

Hey Matt, I've got one thing to add on to that Large CPS trick that will make the bait last even longer. I've switched all my CPS to the large size and then shove a tooth pick in through the bait and through the gaps in the middle of the spring horizontally. It just gives that much more for the bait to catch on before the nose rips out. I fish a lot of 5.8 to 7.8 keitechs as well as some $15+ custom soft body swimbaits and it saves me A TON. I regularly catch 30+ fish on the before it rips out and a lot of tines just some mend-it will repair the nose enough to use the same trick and get you another 15+ fish on the bait.

I struggled also in the past finding a good weedless hook for the mid/larger (~5") paddle tail swimbaits until I tried the VMC drop dead weighted hooks. The 4/0 (3/16 and 1/4oz) has been a great hook and although the twist lock springs aren't great they do work. Sometimes I replace those and go on Amazon and get some Owner equivalent ones for much cheaper (Hyamass brand was a perfect high quality replacement).
The VMC hooks are normally pretty sharp new but I do sharpen them after a few fish but the hook up ratio with them has been great. When the twist locks rip out I super glue the heads of the bait closed and they last for several more fish. The twist lock springs fight you sometimes going back in after gluing but force the pin through then just take your time twisting it in straight but it works. Besides Keitech I find the BPS speed shad to be great paddle tail baits and the BPS ones are a couple of bucks cheaper.

PS, I bought my first swimbait rod today because of TacticalBassin. It'll probably see more use muskie fishing than anything (actually bought it at a muskie convention), but it's definitely gonna do a lot of swimbait chucking too.

lol, on an off-note... you leaning over the edge of your boat in the video looked really cool, it looks like a 3D video of you occasionally leaning out over the edge of the screen, lmao... GREAT VIDEO

Great video guys! Since it doesn't look like it's going away, have you guys thought of doing a scrounger video? I would be interested in your thoughts on where that rig fits in with similar presentations like c-rigs, keitechs, chatterbaits, or deep cranks

Sorry bud! Those mediums will be perfect for the fluke. Its tougher material and it holds.

I know you guys like the Keitechs, but I gave up on them pretty quickly. Yeah, they caught fish, but they did hold up at all. I found that I could throw Zoom Swimmin Flukes, my catch rate was just as good, and they held up much better.
Also, I actually figured out a rig to make my own center pin springs. Gotta make one in the larger size, though.

Big fan of the swimbaits too... Plain swim bait hook, underspins, swim jig and spinner bait trailers. Wondering if y'all have tried the Yamamoto heart tails and what you thought of them in comparison to your favs... Like a Keitech???

What exposed hook size do you recommend for the 4.8 and 5.8 Keitech Fat ? Suggested weight for the 5.8 on the Delta ? Thanks
