We literally saw this happen in Bakhmut.. if they couldn't do anything meaningful around Bakhmut during their counter offensive back in 2023, then what makes you think now would be any better? Pokrovsk definitely hasn't lost its strategic significance, it is a major railway junction for all routes in the east. Once Russia control it, they can use it as a supply line to quickly sweep North and encircle Kramatorsk.

Probably because the meatwave tactic is completely overblown. There's been incidents of poorly trained Russian conscripts being used in order to bait Ukranian troops into giving their positions away, but the Russians aren't suicidal.
There is no question that significant meat wave tactics have been employed. The video probably overlooked it because ethnic minorities are the main victims.
A "meat wave" by Russia is 6-8 guys on motorbikes riding through rapidly with some of them being shot at and a few dieing. Ukrainians fire and show the buildings they are in then glide bombs take out the buildings. 4 Russian casualties of which maybe 2 are dead (and these are released prisoners btw). 100 Ukrainians get bombed and most die. Dead prisoner exchanges are 10:1. Shells fired are 10:1. Average Russian age is early 20s, average Ukrainian age is 43. Except for Russian ex-prisoners they all have 3-6 months training (including medical training to save the wounded). A Nato trained Ukrainian has 5 weeks but most have less. Knowing how to tie that tourniquet will save your mates life. 10:1 death rates are to be expected - anything else would require very strange circumstances. Ukrainian meatwaves are different - they are the holding of towns and villages using the constant replacements of teams of 50 untrained recruits rather than the use of 20 experienced recruits who might surived 3 weeks. Ukraine doesn't have many experienced recruits left - and sent most of what it did have to Kursk.

The moment they capture pokrovsk, they can begin restoring rail infrastructure and use the lines heading north to continuously supply an advance in that direction. In addition, the Ukrainians will be denied use of rail in this area and restrict Ukraines ability to resupply their front lines which are already close to breaking point. It is not an exaduration at all to say that Ukraine will lose the whole of Donetsk oblast once Pokrovsk falls.

Video does not give credit to the meat wave tactics. For any country that falls to such an invasion, their men will be forced into something similar.
Probably because the meatwave tactic is completely overblown. There's been incidents of poorly trained Russian conscripts being used in order to bait Ukranian troops into giving their positions away, but the Russians aren't suicidal.
There is no question that significant meat wave tactics have been employed. The video probably overlooked it because ethnic minorities are the main victims.

A "meat wave" by Russia is 6-8 guys on motorbikes riding through rapidly with some of them being shot at and a few dieing.
Ukrainians fire and show the buildings they are in then glide bombs take out the buildings. 4 Russian casualties of which maybe 2 are dead (and these are released prisoners btw). 100 Ukrainians get bombed and most die.
Dead prisoner exchanges are 10:1. Shells fired are 10:1. Average Russian age is early 20s, average Ukrainian age is 43. Except for Russian ex-prisoners they all have 3-6 months training (including medical training to save the wounded). A Nato trained Ukrainian has 5 weeks but most have less. Knowing how to tie that tourniquet will save your mates life.

Ukrainian meatwaves are different - they are the holding of towns and villages using the constant replacements of teams of 50 untrained recruits rather than the use of 20 experienced recruits who might surived 3 weeks. Ukraine doesn't have many experienced recruits left - and sent most of what it did have to Kursk.
