Finally!!! Sasaki to Miyano isn't just a great LGBTQ+ anime, it's a great anime, period. It's an adorable, fun romance, and I'm so glad other people are as excited about it as I am!!!!!

It is completely a barrier breaker. A great gateway anime for bl even though it is quite unique and special (at least to many readers) amongst the plethora of bl out there, even today.
I loved the fact that it was a good romance story in itself. Like it could have been a story of any two people, males or not and it would still make you happy watching it. The fact that the titular characters were free from certain stereotypes associated with their sexuality made it a really enjoyable show. Also loved the story segment that you did.
💯 that's right on. When characters aren't tokenised or fetishised or shoved in for any other unsavoury reasons and you have a genuine story at the heart of it that takes precedence over everything else it becomes an authentic piece of art and that should stand on its own for the reasons you've said.
Watched this anime yesterday and man I couldn't stop smiling, such a feel-good anime. I'm a guy who is solely attracted to guys, I read tons of BL webtoons but anime is usually a realm I cant enjoy BL because of how sexualized or stereotyped it is. However, this and Stranger by the Shore have been such amazing BL anime, glad to see the anime industry taking a new direction with this genre.

I honestly wish this one was more popular. I'm tired of seeing things like Killing Stalking, and things like that being promoted in media. This was so refreshing to see, and how they made sure to make a point about consent at some parts.
Many modern yaois are filled with List or too much unnecessary drama. This was a great wholesome anime, really a rare piece. Probably the second third Yaoi I liked after Banana Fish and classmates. Not too big fan of BL or GLs but something like Sasaki to Miyano and Bloom into you sure hits in the wholesome part
I am not a fan of bl animes but Sasaki to Miyano was my first try to watch this genre and I actually like it, But again after this when I've watched a few more like super lovers or sekaichi, I found them really uncomfortable cause their focus was on se...xual things and kind of rap..y rather than emotional, Then again I found Given which was really good though 😰
This is also our struggle my dear... BL animes is full of tone down versions of the popular yaoi series of early 2000s to 2010s.... Which is why most bls, you know rapey and forceful... This is also why it is hard to gain new fans or even respect from the anime community.. You are brave to explore the BL anime genre.. Cause as a reflection to many years of me being a casual bL anime fan.. I could only recommend so little cause most bls are many out of any normies comfort zone... Before sasaki to miyano... I could only suggest Given and Doukyuusei with maybe Tight Rope?? To an interested party... If you hate Given... No hope for you to go dive in...

There's a side manga with Hirano and his roommate❤️ it's so cute too cuz it's a different approach to self discovery. Since the roommate is very much like Sasaki, he's very open with his feelings and Hirano is very much- not. It's so interesting. Cuz Hirano says he doesn't feel anything but the manga shows that's not true 😩 highly recommend!
I'm honestly so happy this came out!! the visual effects and the colours all made the anime so cute and happy, I really couldn't stop watching it and I'm even contemplating watching it dubbed! (I heard some lgbtq+ voice actors are working on it) Also, hopefully with the popularity of Sasaki to Miyano, there would be a rise in diverse and accurate representation! I came to realise about LGBTQ matters and my asexuality through anime and the anime community, so I'm really excited for the future of people finding out and understanding more about the LGBTQ community from anime :D
I actually figured out that I was asexual from this show! All of the questions Miyano was asking himself, I asked myself too, and while he discovered he liked Sasaki, I discovered that I wasn’t interested in any sort of romantic relationship. It really helped me understand romance better, and realize that it’s not for me, and I’ll always be indebted to the show for that!

The dub is really good, especially Sasaki's. It has that playfulness to him that matches his character really well, and I also like how he sounds slightly (and almost unnoticeably) different when speaking to Miyano.
it was very validating to hear your own story at the end of this video. as someone who didn't come out (or realize i couldn't be straight) until age 19, it's really nice to hear of others who had a similar experience later in life, beyond high school years! college is really something!! heh, i guess it helped a lot that i went to an all women's college, too...but i digress! thank you for this video!! :)
Just watched the whole show in a day and I couldn't stop smiling! It's such a sweet, realistic love story that feels natural-and I love how the two are always thinking about making the other feel comfortable, and also how they feel like they're friends even while Miyano is trying to figure out his answer! No drama no fuss-just two people figuring out their feelings and handling it in a natural mature way.
I'm currently so enamored with Sasaki to Miyano haha. It's so sweet, adorable, wholesome, refreshing, and well-executed. The animation is appealing, the characters are fun and likeable, the English dub is very fun (especially Sasaki's voice by Kellen Goff), the relationship portrayed in the show is imperfect but very endearing... My only potential criticism is some slow pacing, but I didn't really notice it the first time through; it's only in retrospect that I can scrutinize it in that way. A special shout-out to the music, I'm glad you talked about it. I mention this in a reply to another comment, but this is one of the only anime I've seen where I consciously noticed the music. You have the more typical upbeat toons to carry the light-hearted and humorous scenes, but the songs that really stood out to me were for the serious moments. The music is sorrowful, sweet, hopeful, and emotional. The motif that plays for Sasaki and Miyano appears in multiple songs, played by different instruments, and is varied to invoke different moods and emotions while still being recognizable. It's genius, and so well-done. I've been listening to the soundtrack by itself, too. Lastly, as a guy who is very much attracted to other men, thank you for sharing your story! It was very sweet and personal. Glad you felt confident enough to include it in the video!
I'm glad you mentioned the music. The composer of this anime is Kana Shibue, who also did Rakugo Shinju, an anime I highly recommend watching. And as someone who wants to major in music the main theme in Sasaki and Miyano really makes it a pleasant experience, going from piano to even oboe.
The music in this show was so good, I consciously noticed it while watching. Later I found the soundtrack by itself to listen to, and it is stunning... truly beautiful. Especially the slower songs, they are so sorrowful and sweet and emotional. Also, I'm floored by the motif for the main characters and how it appears in different songs, played by different instruments, to convey different moods and emotions. The music from this show absolutely blew me away. The show itself is one of my favorites, I'm mildly obsessed haha. It's adorable, sweet, emotional, humorous, and a truly lovely story of a same-sex relationship. I can't sing its praises enough rn.
Part of the reason so many problems are caused by misunderstandings in anime is due to a concept known as “sasseru”. Sasseru is very important in Japanese society and it roughly means “to proactively understand another person’s needs and wants without them having to tell you or you asking them”. This leads to a lot of misunderstandings due to people trying to do what they THINK the other person wants, but they misread. It is also so ingrained in their society that this word, despite being important, isn’t mentioned it a lot because it’s not really something “you do” per say, but EMBODY.
Oh, yes! Sasaki & Miyano is a beautiful and wholesome story that warms up your heart and gives wings to your soul (although a teeny teensy bit slow-paced). Also, loved your story - it's always fun when we discover new things about ourselves. Good luck exploring!
I think the problem isn't that BL is (mainly) targeted at fujoshi, but that it's believed that fujoshi (by that I simply mean female fans of BL) are a monolith that prefers toxic relationships featuring uneven power dynamics, lack of consent, manipulation, possessiveness, etc. They aren't and they don't. Like any fandom, it consists of individuals with different preferences and tastes. There are plenty of fujoshi who prefer BL featuring healthy relationships marked by consent, respect, kindness, etc. Just go to MAL and look up any BL. You'll always find reviews and comments praising their healthy relationship dynamics or criticising the lack thereof. Those comments and reviews are definitely not just written by (gay) men. Fortunately, things are developing in a positive direction. Not only are more BL anime released, but the industry also seems to have finally caught on the fact that healthy BL is popular, too.
If you liked Sasaki to Miyano then I would recommend you to watch Heaven Official's Blessing. Even though the plot is quite different, the development of their relationship is pretty similar. The original source is a chinese novel but it has an anime (donghua in chinese) adaptation that you can find on Netflix, it also has a manhua, an audiodrama and a future live action. When I watched the donghua for the first time I went into it totally blind and tbh it could be kind of confusing if you haven't read the novel but I assure you that that isn't an impediment at all for you to fully enjoy it. If I told you that when I finished watching the animation I ended up loving it that much that I couldn't have enough of them so I read the novel and consume every adaptation the story has. Yes, I became THAT obsessed. The animation series does a very good job on portraying the characters emotions and the bond it exist between them. Although it is true in the first season we do not fully see the development of a love relationship due to chinese censorship, it can be intuited that there is something stronger than a friendship between the two. For me is the best BL story ever, their romance is slow burn due to storytime events being around 800 years, but the wait is all worth it in the end. If I could describe their relationship in three words it would be trust, respect and devotion. They are the real definition of true love so please check it out, you won't regret it.

Sasaki and Miyano is one of my Favorite BL Anime it's so cute the story developement is so great, I highly recommend this one I dont usually watch BL anime that much, because some of the BL Anime are kinda forced, or have a toxic relationship, or the story is just going to fast.

As a BL fan Sasaki and Miyano is a breath of fresh air, it was cute and funny. Sasaki is always respectful towards Miyano and respects his boundaries. Most of the BL I’ve read or watched over they years always gets to the dubious consent area and when that gets higher to you-know-what I end up dropping them. It’s so uncomfortable. So animes like Sasaki and Miyano are really nice to see
As someone in ace spectrum, this anime, with such slow boiled love made me so comfy. I was smiling so much each episode. I understood Miyano so much, because I couldn't understand my own feelings when I fell in love haha It was like looking at the mirror. This was my first BL anime, also my most rewind/watch scenes again, 2nd most watched period… I just discovered it last week and I have rewatched in whole/part To some extent every day since!! Just makes me so happy!! It’s visually beautiful IMO and the floating flowers/hearts/shapes is such a dreamy touch! Sasaki wanted a YEAR for mio to come to terms with his new sexuality and love for him, I mean damn!! I really hope the movie hits streaming ASAP! It’s releasing in Japan February 2023 I believe! It’s also the FIRST MANGA I read, currently burning through it! I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT COMES AFTER!! This was the MOST SATISFYING slow burn EVER!!

Sasaki + Miyano is a pillar that all sol shows should be held to. It's so, so refreshing to see the characters talk things out. Sasaki and Miyano has a place in my heart because of the wholesome and adorable romance between the characters and how the confession isn't the end of the anime we actually get to see how their relationship which each other. I'm a fan of BL just the uncomfortable circumstances one of the characters go under drawed me away from it for awhile only when I found tgcf (heavens official's blessing- a fantasia BL anime with a build up and wholesome relationship between the characters which I have seen so far in the novels and anime) and Sasaki and Miyano. Personally it needs more recognition from more people because its one of the enjoyable BL anime I have found while searching. Overall thank you for bringing more recognition to the anime and showing that now all BL is creepy and how it can be not fetishized. I have rambled for to long now but I'm very happy you enjoyed it and I hope u have a good rest of your day and your eyes don't hurt after reading this. Highly reccommend this anime!! Plus with the heartbeat seen with the ending Sasaki says Miyano’s heartbeat is so super loud and when he says that sasaki should listen to it and when he hugs him and then when he takes Miyano’s hand in Sasaki’s chest when he feels sasaki’s heartbeat. 😅❤ so I felt it was so very cute… plus I was so embarrassed, let’s just say that I have a obsession with heartbeat. 😅so Sasaki and Miyano give me a good feels… ❤❤❤ 😅😅😅my face is freaking red now but I still feel it.. 😮 but thanks.
Sasaki and Miyano was my first BL anime. It set the bar really high for the yaoi genre for me, and I was really disappointed at most of the harmful tropes that were very present in most yaoi anime as a queer folk myself. Another good one was Yuri on ice.

What makes Sasaki & Miyano so great is that it's lighthearted. It's also beautifully drawn with a great soundtrack. 💯 I can't wait for the movie & hopefully it gets a season 2. How can you say the art & animation isn't phenomenal!? It's breathtakingly gorgeous! I don't find other bl animes creepy. Some of them are way overrated, largely because of their female fan base. (Junjo Romantica is usually rated #1 on every bl list. I'm a couple episodes in & I'm not that thrilled with it, tbh. The animation is just not good & it's largely similar to 99% of all other bl anime, which isn't saying much since there is so little.) Super Lovers doesn't weird me out like it does some people. Given is another masterpiece like Sasaki & Miyano. Yuri On Ice is beautiful, with the best opening song of all time, but it's a bit overrated if you ask me, unless you're a huge fan of figure skating. I don't necessarily consider it a bl. The main characters don't ever even kiss, and, although strongly implied, Yuri's love for Victor isn't expressly stated to be more than platonic. I waited all season for a romantic confession, a kiss, even a marriage proposal after seeing the matching rings. But all they gave us were hugs & more of Yuri gushing about how much he wants Victor to carry on being his coach. 😫Maybe in season 2, if it ever actually happens. That's one of the frustrating things about anime; how it can be years between seasons. Luckily for me, I only got into anime recently, so I won't have to wait too long for most of the continuations... hopefully. 😎 I forgot to add that I'm going to watch the dub soon. I usually don't care fore dubs, but the snippets I've heard are very well done. I'm also going to check out the manga, which will be my first.
Cute personal story, thanks* for sharing. I think that it's kind of important that you did that to help contextualise the anime/manga. I read the typical toxic BL when I was a naive young 15-16yo teen with little life or love experience. Almost 15 years on, I only picked up the genre again after dropping it as I grew up a bit and realised how shallow the plots were, the lack of authenticity in the characters' relationships and how that was a massive turn-off (figuratively). A friend opened me up to this new wave of wholesome BL. Back to my first point, now with a lifetime more experience than back at that age and learning from different relationships I've been in, including never forgetting the firsts, Sasaki and Miyano struck a chord because their dynamic is so relatable to those personal formative experiences - especially for pan or bi people who've discovered their same-sex attraction in a similar way. I think connecting that to the real world is important, so it contextualises that for others. It can be easily missed. If someone were to struggle with this, I'd say it would be looking past its diabetic sweetness and fluffiness that won't appeal to everyone, but I think they'd be throwing the baby out with the bath water if they didn't give it a chance. Not to mention all of the other points you made on the quality and production of the anime itself.
As someone who had a very similar expirience to Miyano with my first girlfriend (kinda)- it was super interesting. I too am fujoshi and was really into BL and all the lgbt stuff I could get my hands on. And I never thought about girls in that way. And then she confessed and it took me an entire month before I could give her any sort of answer (after I'd sorted through my feelings of course.) And as a side note I hold the same opinions towards GL that most gay men hold towards BL- its clearly not targeted towards actual LGBT people and that the characters are way too over sexualised and that it gets kinda ridiculous. PS: Hearing your story was extremely interesting- you should turn it into a book.❤
I really appreciated your personal story: I didn’t realize I also liked the same gender until I was in college too. Although I realized in retrospect that I had also had a bit of a crush on my best friend in middle school/high school and just didn’t realize at the time.
Surprisingly relatable I used to ship my friends as a joke they didn’t mind because they knew it was joke but man I wish I had BF or GF to go on dates and watch fluffy romance shows and movies but most girls hate the fact that I’m flirty with men and women I don’t hide who I am but sometimes I wish I was only attracted to one side of the coin I’m way more picky about guys but my relationship with last bf was ended like a train wreck due to a bad coke on a date

Let’s be real everybody who watched this Smiled, Screamed, Chuckled, and loved it all throughout the anime it’s so good, it’s so cute and wholesome and it’s NOT creepy, I just can’t get it over now cute it is. Perfect couple, great romance but NOT creepy. Also, I’m glad u brought up the dub it’s so good I love Sasaki’s voice and the cute things he says when he sees Miyano it’s so cute, and obviously gay which I love lol and that the actors were all queer/gay u know that it’s going to be so much better when the actors actually know about it cause their living it and aren’t forcing anything that their uncomfortable with like most other BL anime
As much as I'd love to watch the anime myself, my family is incredibly christian and very anti-lgbtq, and the only way for me to watch anime currently is with the family tv in the living room on my father's account haha. I hope more queer animes like this one or even better can be released in the future so that when I finally have the freedom to watch them myself, I'll have a whole load of them to go through and enjoy :)
I totally agree with your opinion about Sasaki to Miyano and thank you so much for the insight in your personal experiences. I always wondered what people of the LGBTQ+ community were thinking about BL anime in general and this one in particular. Because to me it was quite confusing to find out that mostly they are not the target group of BL anime and manga but actually straight women, which I actually don’t get especially how it’s portrayed most of the time with all that roughness and forcing. I don’t like such behavior and it was always painful to watch, which is why I normally avoid that genre. But I loved this anime and I couldn’t stop myself from rewatching it a second time because of its wholesome portraying of two people to fall in love for each other. And although I’m a straight girl who’s normally not into BL, I found a very strong connection to these characters from the first episode on, because in my opinion, that anime is not about same sex love per se but about falling for another person and that is something a lot of people can relate to no matter their sexual orientation. It’s so wonderful, respectful and lovingly portrayed and that moment when they finally get together let’s me tearing up every time because I’m so happy for them. So I hope to see more of this kind of realistic romance anime in the future. It’s just wonderful to watch!
I would honestly love if Sasaki and Miyano season 2 was them in college. Or them out of college. Simply because we seldom get to see unproblematic elder gays. I'd love seeing the two boys having to figure out living together, balancing work life with love, all the stuff that hetro couples deal with later in life. As well as them trying to make sure they aren't falling into tropes like they did in s1.
It feels nice to have fresh air from toxic BLs I grew up with. I’m a lesbian and watched GLs as well and let’s just say there manly toxic ones as well. Love in a lot of anime’s tend to be so toxic especially when it comes to the LGBTQ and seeing this made me scared as a kid and made it harder for me to find out who I am. I’m glad kids today who find this anime get a better since of what love can be like. Especially for anyone who’s part of the LGBTQ.

You have to admit Chris was a tad bit creepy but Yuri On Ice was still an amazing and phenomenal story to read and watch! Chris is just sooo…. (In a bad way)
yo cuando leí por primera vez sasaki to miyano pensé que iba a ser un manga bl mas ya que aunque no llevaba mucho tiempo leyendo bl, estaba buscando una buena historia que almenos cumpliera con querer saber que pasara mas adelante, el primer capitulo me confundió un poco por los tiempos y por eso lo deje de lado un tiempo hasta que apareció en un crossover con otro manga y decidí continuarlo, me entretuvo y me encariñe con los personajes, en especial miyano que de alguna forma de identifique y me gusto mucho mas por el excelente desarrollo que tuvo junto a sasaki, y este como cambio gracias miyano y como se cuenta como era antes sin llegar a ser el típico cliché de infancia traumada o algo por ese estilo y simplemente hacer una relacion difícil entre familia pero sin llegar a ser tosca.
Honestly, I only like 7 BL’s… Sasaki to Miyano, Given, Yuri on Ice, Dokyuusei, Banana Fish, Tedaima Okaeri, and Cherry Magic. Two of which came out this year. The rest I don’t find cute because I’m not a fudanshi. I’m not into toxic BL’s. I’m not into the rape/sexual assault/weird power dynamics (that’s why I won’t watch Hitorijime my hero)/sex they have in it a lot of times. I’m alright with sexual themes (seeing as how I’m an enjoyer of Yuri on Ice) but I don’t like smut. Sasaki to Miyano/Given was my gateway into the BL genre, but I can’t find as most of them are overridden with smut. I love Sasaki to Miyano.

It is completely a barrier breaker. A great gateway anime for bl even though it is quite unique and special (at least to many readers) amongst the plethora of bl out there, even today.
A bl that feels so grounded even as romance can be fantastical. Sasaki and Miyano is so grounded that it feels believable.

I loved the fact that it was a good romance story in itself. Like it could have been a story of any two people, males or not and it would still make you happy watching it. The fact that the titular characters were free from certain stereotypes associated with their sexuality made it a really enjoyable show.

When characters aren't tokenised or fetishised or shoved in for any other unsavoury reasons and you have a genuine story at the heart of it that takes precedence over everything else it becomes an authentic piece of art and that should stand on its own for the reasons you've said.
Watched this anime yesterday and man I couldn't stop smiling, such a feel-good anime. I'm a guy who is solely attracted to guys, I read tons of BL webtoons but anime is usually a realm I cant enjoy BL because of how sexualized or stereotyped it is. However, this and Stranger by the Shore have been such amazing BL anime, glad to see the anime industry taking a new direction with this genre.

As a 🏳️🌈woman, I love seeing LGBTQIA+ anime, Manga and stories that are like this one. It feels more genuine and realistic than others.
Many modern yaois are filled with List or too much unnecessary drama. This was a great wholesome anime, really a rare piece. Probably the second third Yaoi I liked after Banana Fish and classmates. Not too big fan of BL or GLs but something like Sasaki to Miyano and Bloom into you sure hits in the wholesome part

I am not a fan of bl animes but Sasaki to Miyano was my first try to watch this genre and I actually like it, But again after this when I've watched a few more like super lovers or sekaichi, I found them really uncomfortable cause their focus was on se...xual things and kind of rap..y rather than emotional, Then again I found Given which was really good though 😰

BL animes is full of tone down versions of the popular yaoi series of early 2000s to 2010s.... Which is why most bls, you know rapey and forceful... This is also why it is hard to gain new fans or even respect from the anime community..

There's a side manga with Hirano and his roommate❤️ it's so cute too cuz it's a different approach to self discovery. Since the roommate is very much like Sasaki, he's very open with his feelings and Hirano is very much- not. It's so interesting. Cuz Hirano says he doesn't feel anything but the manga shows that's not true 😩

I'm honestly so happy this came out!! the visual effects and the colours all made the anime so cute and happy, I really couldn't stop watching it and I'm even contemplating watching it dubbed! (I heard some lgbtq+ voice actors are working on it) Also, hopefully with the popularity of Sasaki to Miyano, there would be a rise in diverse and accurate representation! I came to realise about LGBTQ matters and my asexuality through anime and the anime community, so I'm really excited for the future of people finding out and understanding more about the LGBTQ community from anime :D
I actually figured out that I was asexual from this show! All of the questions Miyano was asking himself, I asked myself too, and while he discovered he liked Sasaki, I discovered that I wasn’t interested in any sort of romantic relationship. It really helped me understand romance better, and realize that it’s not for me, and I’ll always be indebted to the show for that!

The dub is really good, especially Sasaki's. It has that playfulness to him that matches his character really well, and I also like how he sounds slightly (and almost unnoticeably) different when speaking to Miyano.
it was very validating to hear your own story at the end of this video. as someone who didn't come out (or realize i couldn't be straight) until age 19, it's really nice to hear of others who had a similar experience later in life, beyond high school years! college is really something!! heh, i guess it helped a lot that i went to an all women's college, too...but i digress! thank you for this video!! :)
Just watched the whole show in a day and I couldn't stop smiling! It's such a sweet, realistic love story that feels natural-and I love how the two are always thinking about making the other feel comfortable, and also how they feel like they're friends even while Miyano is trying to figure out his answer! No drama no fuss-just two people figuring out their feelings and handling it in a natural mature way.
I'm currently so enamored with Sasaki to Miyano haha. It's so sweet, adorable, wholesome, refreshing, and well-executed. The animation is appealing, the characters are fun and likeable, the English dub is very fun (especially Sasaki's voice by Kellen Goff), the relationship portrayed in the show is imperfect but very endearing... My only potential criticism is some slow pacing, but I didn't really notice it the first time through; it's only in retrospect that I can scrutinize it in that way.
A special shout-out to the music, I'm glad you talked about it. I mention this in a reply to another comment, but this is one of the only anime I've seen where I consciously noticed the music. You have the more typical upbeat toons to carry the light-hearted and humorous scenes, but the songs that really stood out to me were for the serious moments. The music is sorrowful, sweet, hopeful, and emotional. The motif that plays for Sasaki and Miyano appears in multiple songs, played by different instruments, and is varied to invoke different moods and emotions while still being recognizable. It's genius, and so well-done. I've been listening to the soundtrack by itself, too.
Lastly, as a guy who is very much attracted to other men, thank you for sharing your story! It was very sweet and personal. Glad you felt confident enough to include it in the video!

And as someone who wants to major in music the main theme in Sasaki and Miyano really makes it a pleasant experience, going from piano to even oboe.
The music in this show was so good, I consciously noticed it while watching. Later I found the soundtrack by itself to listen to, and it is stunning... truly beautiful. Especially the slower songs, they are so sorrowful and sweet and emotional.
Also, I'm floored by the motif for the main characters and how it appears in different songs, played by different instruments, to convey different moods and emotions. The music from this show absolutely blew me away.
The show itself is one of my favorites, I'm mildly obsessed haha. It's adorable, sweet, emotional, humorous, and a truly lovely story of a same-sex relationship. I can't sing its praises enough rn.
Part of the reason so many problems are caused by misunderstandings in anime is due to a concept known as “sasseru”. Sasseru is very important in Japanese society and it roughly means “to proactively understand another person’s needs and wants without them having to tell you or you asking them”.
This leads to a lot of misunderstandings due to people trying to do what they THINK the other person wants, but they misread. It is also so ingrained in their society that this word, despite being important, isn’t mentioned it a lot because it’s not really something “you do” per say, but EMBODY.
Hell yeah! This is the type of representation we all deserve!

Oh, yes! Sasaki & Miyano is a beautiful and wholesome story that warms up your heart and gives wings to your soul (although a teeny teensy bit slow-paced). Also, loved your story - it's always fun when we discover new things about ourselves. Good luck exploring!
I think the problem isn't that BL is (mainly) targeted at fujoshi, but that it's believed that fujoshi (by that I simply mean female fans of BL) are a monolith that prefers toxic relationships featuring uneven power dynamics, lack of consent, manipulation, possessiveness, etc. They aren't and they don't. Like any fandom, it consists of individuals with different preferences and tastes. There are plenty of fujoshi who prefer BL featuring healthy relationships marked by consent, respect, kindness, etc. Just go to MAL and look up any BL. You'll always find reviews and comments praising their healthy relationship dynamics or criticising the lack thereof. Those comments and reviews are definitely not just written by (gay) men.
Fortunately, things are developing in a positive direction. Not only are more BL anime released, but the industry also seems to have finally caught on the fact that healthy BL is popular, too.
If you liked Sasaki to Miyano then I would recommend you to watch Heaven Official's Blessing. Even though the plot is quite different, the development of their relationship is pretty similar.
The original source is a chinese novel but it has an anime (donghua in chinese) adaptation that you can find on Netflix, it also has a manhua, an audiodrama and a future live action.
When I watched the donghua for the first time I went into it totally blind and tbh it could be kind of confusing if you haven't read the novel but I assure you that that isn't an impediment at all for you to fully enjoy it. If I told you that when I finished watching the animation I ended up loving it that much that I couldn't have enough of them so I read the novel and consume every adaptation the story has. Yes, I became THAT obsessed.
The animation series does a very good job on portraying the characters emotions and the bond it exist between them. Although it is true in the first season we do not fully see the development of a love relationship due to chinese censorship, it can be intuited that there is something stronger than a friendship between the two.
For me is the best BL story ever, their romance is slow burn due to storytime events being around 800 years, but the wait is all worth it in the end.
If I could describe their relationship in three words it would be trust, respect and devotion. They are the real definition of true love so please check it out, you won't regret it.

As a BL fan Sasaki and Miyano is a breath of fresh air, it was cute and funny. Sasaki is always respectful towards Miyano and respects his boundaries. Most of the BL I’ve read or watched over they years always gets to the dubious consent area and when that gets higher to you-know-what I end up dropping them. It’s so uncomfortable. So animes like Sasaki and Miyano are really nice to see

To some extent every day since!! Just makes me so happy!! It’s visually beautiful IMO and the floating flowers/hearts/shapes is such a dreamy touch! Sasaki wanted a YEAR for mio to come to terms with his new sexuality and love for him, I mean damn!! I really hope the movie hits streaming ASAP! It’s releasing in Japan February 2023 I believe! Sasaki and Miyano has a place in my heart because of the wholesome and adorable romance between the characters and how the confession isn't the end of the anime we actually get to see how their relationship which each other. I'm a fan of BL just the uncomfortable circumstances one of the characters go under drawed me away from it for awhile only when I found tgcf (heavens official's blessing- a fantasia BL anime with a build up and wholesome relationship between the characters which I have seen so far in the novels and anime) and Sasaki and Miyano. Personally it needs more recognition from more people because its one of the enjoyable BL anime I have found while searching. Overall thank you for bringing more recognition to the anime and showing that now all BL is creepy and how it can be not fetishized. I have rambled for to long now but I'm very happy you enjoyed it and I hope u have a good rest of your day and your eyes don't hurt after reading this.

Sasaki and Miyano was my first BL anime. It set the bar really high for the yaoi genre for me, and I was really disappointed at most of the harmful tropes that were very present in most yaoi anime as a queer folk myself. Another good one was Yuri on ice.

What makes Sasaki & Miyano so great is that it's lighthearted. It's also beautifully drawn with a great soundtrack. 💯 I can't wait for the movie & hopefully it gets a season 2. How can you say the art & animation isn't phenomenal!? It's breathtakingly gorgeous! I don't find other bl animes creepy. Some of them are way overrated, largely because of their female fan base. (Junjo Romantica is usually rated #1 on every bl list. I'm a couple episodes in & I'm not that thrilled with it, tbh. The animation is just not good & it's largely similar to 99% of all other bl anime, which isn't saying much since there is so little.) Super Lovers doesn't weird me out like it does some people. Given is another masterpiece like Sasaki & Miyano. Yuri On Ice is beautiful, with the best opening song of all time, but it's a bit overrated if you ask me, unless you're a huge fan of figure skating. I don't necessarily consider it a bl. The main characters don't ever even kiss, and, although strongly implied, Yuri's love for Victor isn't expressly stated to be more than platonic. I waited all season for a romantic confession, a kiss, even a marriage proposal after seeing the matching rings. But all they gave us were hugs & more of Yuri gushing about how much he wants Victor to carry on being his coach. 😫Maybe in season 2, if it ever actually happens. That's one of the frustrating things about anime; how it can be years between seasons. Luckily for me, I only got into anime recently, so I won't have to wait too long for most of the continuations... hopefully. 😎 I forgot to add that I'm going to watch the dub soon. I usually don't care fore dubs, but the snippets I've heard are very well done. I'm also going to check out the manga, which will be my first.

Cute personal story, thanks* for sharing. I think that it's kind of important that you did that to help contextualise the anime/manga.
I read the typical toxic BL when I was a naive young 15-16yo teen with little life or love experience.
Almost 15 years on, I only picked up the genre again after dropping it as I grew up a bit and realised how shallow the plots were, the lack of authenticity in the characters' relationships and how that was a massive turn-off (figuratively).
A friend opened me up to this new wave of wholesome BL.
Back to my first point, now with a lifetime more experience than back at that age and learning from different relationships I've been in, including never forgetting the firsts, Sasaki and Miyano struck a chord because their dynamic is so relatable to those personal formative experiences - especially for pan or bi people who've discovered their same-sex attraction in a similar way.
I think connecting that to the real world is important, so it contextualises that for others. It can be easily missed.
If someone were to struggle with this, I'd say it would be looking past its diabetic sweetness and fluffiness that won't appeal to everyone, but I think they'd be throwing the baby out with the bath water if they didn't give it a chance. Not to mention all of the other points you made on the quality and production of the anime itself.

As someone who had a very similar expirience to Miyano with my first girlfriend (kinda)- it was super interesting. I too am fujoshi and was really into BL and all the lgbt stuff I could get my hands on. And I never thought about girls in that way. And then she confessed and it took me an entire month before I could give her any sort of answer (after I'd sorted through my feelings of course.)
And as a side note I hold the same opinions towards GL that most gay men hold towards BL- its clearly not targeted towards actual LGBT people and that the characters are way too over sexualised and that it gets kinda ridiculous.

I really appreciated your personal story: I didn’t realize I also liked the same gender until I was in college too. Although I realized in retrospect that I had also had a bit of a crush on my best friend in middle school/high school and just didn’t realize at the time.
Surprisingly relatable I used to ship my friends as a joke they didn’t mind because they knew it was joke but man I wish I had BF or GF to go on dates and watch fluffy romance shows and movies but most girls hate the fact that I’m flirty with men and women I don’t hide who I am but sometimes I wish I was only attracted to one side of the coin I’m way more picky about guys but my relationship with last bf was ended like a train wreck due to a bad coke on a date

As much as I'd love to watch the anime myself, my family is incredibly christian and very anti-lgbtq, and the only way for me to watch anime currently is with the family tv in the living room on my father's account haha. I hope more queer animes like this one or even better can be released in the future so that when I finally have the freedom to watch them myself, I'll have a whole load of them to go through and enjoy :)

I totally agree with your opinion about Sasaki to Miyano and thank you so much for the insight in your personal experiences. I always wondered what people of the LGBTQ+ community were thinking about BL anime in general and this one in particular. Because to me it was quite confusing to find out that mostly they are not the target group of BL anime and manga but actually straight women, which I actually don’t get especially how it’s portrayed most of the time with all that roughness and forcing. I don’t like such behavior and it was always painful to watch, which is why I normally avoid that genre. But I loved this anime and I couldn’t stop myself from rewatching it a second time because of its wholesome portraying of two people to fall in love for each other. And although I’m a straight girl who’s normally not into BL, I found a very strong connection to these characters from the first episode on, because in my opinion, that anime is not about same sex love per se but about falling for another person and that is something a lot of people can relate to no matter their sexual orientation. It’s so wonderful, respectful and lovingly portrayed and that moment when they finally get together let’s me tearing up every time because I’m so happy for them. So I hope to see more of this kind of realistic romance anime in the future. It’s just wonderful to watch!

I would honestly love if Sasaki and Miyano season 2 was them in college. Or them out of college. Simply because we seldom get to see unproblematic elder gays.
I'd love seeing the two boys having to figure out living together, balancing work life with love, all the stuff that hetro couples deal with later in life. As well as them trying to make sure they aren't falling into tropes like they did in s1.
It feels nice to have fresh air from toxic BLs I grew up with. I’m a lesbian and watched GLs as well and let’s just say there manly toxic ones as well. Love in a lot of anime’s tend to be so toxic especially when it comes to the LGBTQ and seeing this made me scared as a kid and made it harder for me to find out who I am. I’m glad kids today who find this anime get a better since of what love can be like. Especially for anyone who’s part of the LGBTQ.

yo cuando leí por primera vez sasaki to miyano pensé que iba a ser un manga bl mas ya que aunque no llevaba mucho tiempo leyendo bl, estaba buscando una buena historia que almenos cumpliera con querer saber que pasara mas adelante, el primer capitulo me confundió un poco por los tiempos y por eso lo deje de lado un tiempo hasta que apareció en un crossover con otro manga y decidí continuarlo, me entretuvo y me encariñe con los personajes, en especial miyano que de alguna forma de identifique y me gusto mucho mas por el excelente desarrollo que tuvo junto a sasaki, y este como cambio gracias miyano y como se cuenta como era antes sin llegar a ser el típico cliché de infancia traumada o algo por ese estilo y simplemente hacer una relacion difícil entre familia pero sin llegar a ser tosca.

Honestly, I only like 7 BL’s… Sasaki to Miyano, Given, Yuri on Ice, Dokyuusei, Banana Fish, Tedaima Okaeri, and Cherry Magic. Two of which came out this year. The rest I don’t find cute because I’m not a fudanshi. I’m not into toxic BL’s. I’m not into the rape/sexual assault/weird power dynamics (that’s why I won’t watch Hitorijime my hero)/sex they have in it a lot of times. I’m alright with sexual themes (seeing as how I’m an enjoyer of Yuri on Ice) but I don’t like smut. Sasaki to Miyano/Given was my gateway into the BL genre, but I can’t find as most of them are overridden with smut. I love Sasaki to Miyano.
Cant wait to see what the industry does with bl
