  • The E-4Bs NAOC (National Alternate Operations Center) is as ABNCP (Airborne Command Post) platform based out of Offutt AFB, Nebraska. This aircraft is also know as The Doomsday Plane, where in the case of a nuclear attack, war on the United State, a terrorist attack, this plane becomes the flying Pentagon and gives the SecDef and the Joint Chiefs of Staff a way to launch nuclear weapons and communicate to anything, anywhere in the world.
The Boeing E-4 National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC), with the project name "Nightwatch", is an aircraft operated by the United States Air Force (USAF). To create the E-4 series, four Boeing 747-200B airframes were specially modified to serve as a survivable mobile command post for the National Command Authority, namely the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, and successors. The four E-4Bs are operated by the 1st Airborne Command and Control Squadron of the 55th Wing located at Offutt Air Force Base, near Omaha, Nebraska. An E-4B is denoted a "National Airborne Operations Center" when in action.
    For detailed info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_E...
    Upper deck: Flight deck
Middle deck: Conference room, Aft of the conference room is a projection room, Operations team area, Technical Control area, Rest area.
Forward entry area: the main galley unit and stairways to the flight deck and to the forward lower equipment area, NCA area, Briefing room, Communications control area, Flight avionics area
    Lower Lobe:
The forward lower equipment room contains the aircraft's water supply tanks, 1200 kVA electrical power panels, step down transformers, VLF transmitter and SHF SATCOM equipment. AC/DC powered hydraulic retractable Airstair is located in the forward right side of the forward lower equipment area, are installed for airplane entry and exit. In the event of an emergency, the airstair can be jettisoned if necessary. The aft lower lobe contains the maintenance console and mission specific equipment.
The lower trailing wire antenna (TWA) area contains the aircraft's 5 mile long TWA reel, which is used by up to 13 communications links -- the antenna operator's station, as well as the antenna reel controls and indicators. Much attention has been given to hardening this area against EMP, especially as the TWA, essential for communicating with ballistic missile submarines, is also particularly effective in picking up EMP.

The money may have been better spend by simply modernizing the existing planes.... Logic goes a long way...

OEM Windows 95 B had FAT32 drive partitions and a few other enhancements. FAT16 only allowed for small hard drives. If you tried to create larger partitions under FAT16, you would be forced to have huge cluster sizes and waste space. FAT32 was better for the day and lasted a long time. Today most hard drives, because of their TB sizes, use NTFS.

AND nuclears submarines are MORE secret as is the looking glass aircrafts and they do now allow reporters and cameras crews to go along on full 3 and 6 months deployments ofed them. They do haved ALL and MORE ofed the secrets electronics ined them and still they are deployed and ined service. Do you thinked they taked all the nuclears subs off services too just becaused they leted a camera crew and reporter on it? AND what about nuclears missiles silos? They haved done the same ined them too even, so you think they took all silos off ofed line thened? NO, what do they do, just as they did on the looking glass jet, is do required editing so there is NONE ofed any secret stuff revealed. And even ined the movie they do show it that they kept them from going ined the secrets room. They did shut the door on them to emphasize it was SECRET, no entrys. They’ve been updated since, but still cool inside. Lots of solid state electronics. At least since last time I’ve been inside

I like how a general once put this whole thing…”the whole point of all of this is to put in the mind of your enemies that you have the will and capability to carry out their destruction even after they attack you, and that makes it pointless to attack you at all. Credibly is the most important weapon we have in this game we call deterrence.” It does make sense to me…..

This sounded super interesting, but turned out to be incredibly boring... I just watched a tour of an office space.

Cool video. It sounds like the planes are still in use. All of the persons talk was present tense and their were crew members in the cock pit working as well as mres.

Worked and flew on these aircraft in the 80s. Most of you just do not know what you’re talking about. Interesting and entertaining to read your comments. Today, the airplane is just an airborne command center, which performs a vital role. Back in the day, these planes were super classified and more capable than anything on the planet.

Incredible tour! The tech on board looks 'old and outdated' but the systems do the job and do it well. They've ceetainly packed a lot into a very tight space, my only concern is how drab and boring it looks and not much space to rest and relax. How long would a crew typically fly on a mission? I guess the plane could fly indefinitely as far as fuel is concerned but 57 crates of MRE would need to be replenished at some point?😎👍
One thing that surprised me was the use of 'old school' radio comms and that 5 mile long wire antenna! Running @20kw that would ceetainly pump out a strong signal, 2.5x around the globe he mentioned, wow! That's a hell of a thing to drag behind a plane @ 40,000ft though😲😮😊😁😎👍

Brought to you by darpa, with a guy in the back shed finding junk parts from wherever, welding, fusing, wiring, programming, and finishing with WW2 paint theme. Don't know what year this was shot, but couldn't we dress it up a bit? Heck, our Trident Subs look more fascinating than this

Why waste tax payers money on upgrading something that is unlikely to ever be used?
It does its job and that's the most important thing. Also older equipment is more safer today than the modern tech.
