We visited wind cave for first time this year. One if my favorites. So quiet hardly any human encounters and on forest state road 5 and 6 (not paved) you really feel like you hiked days into back country. So beautiful. It had snowed making it easy to see coyotes hunting, bison, hawks and the land is uniquely beautiful. You feel like you are the only humans in the world. Would like to do that hike next time. Thank you for all your hard work and time you give to share these special places with us. We all appreciate you! Stay safe.

Noticed that all the buffalo were bulls. Last time I drove through Custer State Park, after the mating season, most of the buffalo were cows and calves. I then drove over to Wind Cave NP (which is right beside Custer State park), all the buffalo there were bulls. They must separate for awhile. Got some killer pictures! Bulls were next to the road.

Great video as always. How about a part I'd like added to your videos? Just a slight nudge to the overland side by adding an extra minute of footage that would include shots of you driving by your camera set up beside the road and a few camp life shots.

Triscuit great with most food. I love water with a small slice of fresh lemon. Great for hot days. Enjoy. Thankyou for the tip about a shower at a RV Park. Some NV state parks have been updating their parks & adding showers, flush toilets, electrical hookups.

What an awesome video Tristen! The wild life was great. That to me makes a hike amazing and what it’s all about. Beautiful scenery and the creatures that roam it. It’s funny the food you got in your cooler is similar to the food that I usually get. I love those nature Valley cookies and I love pineapple yogurt. I’m thinking about taking a trip to North Dakota next year by myself taking a 10 day vacation. Have you ever been to North Dakota? is there anything good to see you there? Thanks for sharing Tristan, cheers my friend!

Hello, Tristan! Enjoyed your post, as expected! The mammoth bones were my favorite part: Amazing that they had not been fossilized. The 'dust bed' is actually a wallow, where the bison roll around to dust bathe. They then stand and give a mighty shake, rather like a dog when wet. The dust helps to dry the coat when wet, and otherwise aerate and de-louse them. Horses do the same, and many other furry critters as well. Horses are well known for doing this after a bath, especially right before a horse show. Thanks for the great tour, and hope you are able to return for the caves when they reopen. Safe travels!

Two of my favorites. The Mammoth Site is super cool. Wind Cave National Park is one of my favorite NPs. We did the Wild Caving tour in 2018 & it was amazing. We came back in 2019, but the elevator was broken. I still love the park because it’s less crowded and I’ve seen tons of animals on both visits: bison, prairie dogs, pronghorn, & deer.
Love the Badlands. Look forward to seeing your vid on it. Hope you got up to Teddy Roosevelt, too.

My guess is that like elephants they used this spot as a burial ground. The sick, the weak, the old would go there to die. There are lots of know elephant graveyards in Africa and I seem to remember that the Mammoth is our version of an elephant here in North America. And they are relatively young on the tree of life as they were here during the last ice age.

Wonderful video, as always. Quick questions. I am trying to set up my SUV, following yours. When I move front seat forward (enough for six feet of length in the back), there is only 24 inches between the car's wall (support column) and center console. It's a Jeep Grand Cherokee similar to the one you rented in an older video.
    (1) How wide is your support/base board (which has the carabiners)? How long?
    (2) How wide is your sleeping pad? Did it fit in the Grand Cherokee (with the center console?) after you pulled the front seat forward?
    (3) Does your current SUV have a center console? How do you work around it?
Keep up the great work, and happy travels.

Great video. I"m actually looking online at land for sale either in the Lead, Hill City, Hot Springs, Keystone or Custer areas - hoping to retire there and figured I'd start looking for land now and use it for camping while on vacations. As I was watching your video I wondered if you had a refrigerator and I was able to see that you do. May I ask how you keep it powered up? Do you have a Jackery or something similar? If so, how do you re-power your power source/Jackery? Thank you! I recently purchased a Jackery and Iceco fridge and am testing it now to see how long a full 1000 watt Jackery will keep the fridge powered up without recharging the Jackery. So I'm interested in learning what others are doing. As always, thank you for the amazing videos!

A few years ago, there were fixer-upper historical homes (with great views!) available in Lead for $20,000. Seriously! They're probably more now, of course. You may also want to look in Deadwood and Spearfish.

i've been wanting to buy a van for the past few years and travel, but after (literally binging) all of your videos, I feel like an SUV is the most reliable route if I am going to be on my own. The issue I would have is sitting up in the back on the "bed," because I will be working remotely. How does it fair for you?

I can sit up fully in the back of my RAV4. But if you build a platform of some kind to put the bed on, you probably wouldn't have enough room to do that. But if I were working on the road, I'd probably just sit in the front seat anyway. Good luck!

If you want to visit another place where they have found bison bones in quantity, may I suggest Vore Buffalo Jump www.vorebuffalojump.org/ which is besides I-90 in Wyoming. They said they think it was also a sinkhole that they led and drove bison in for the Native Americans food supply. Very interesting place and only about 5 or 10 minutes off the Interstate. There is a fee for this attraction as a foundation is trying to preserve it and have not gotten any interest from any Government agency to run it.

One day in the future someone may stumble across "the human site" with bones and artifacts from Covid-19 quarantine groups...I'd love to see the video on that one!

You mentioned getting a shower at an RV park. Is this typical? And how do you find out about it, or do you just search through RV park websites?

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's not uncommon. I just call up RV parks and ask if they offer showers to non-guests

@@SUVRVing Thanks. I've been using Pilot truck stops, but they're $15 each and are only on big freeways. I never knew about the RV park shower until you mentioned it, so thanks for that kind of info. That's one of the reasons why I love your channel.
