The musicianship today is severely lacking. I remember older days, where Grover Washington Jr. would just show up on a track, or other instrumentalists like him.
It's not my place to say anything to anyone in R&B, because I left a long time ago, but I would suggest Jill listen to some Mandisa and Israel Houghton and find better producers. Today's music is overwhelmingly negative with very little light shining through.
