Hands down one of the greatest movie experiences I have ever had. I was a freshman in high school when my dad took me to see this. No one expected the fake movie trailers and no one recognized Tom Cruise until the end credits. it was awesome!
Yeah it seems with Tom Cruise people recognized him right away, or not at all until the end. I didn't recognize him until the end either, but the friend I saw it with recognized him right away
To this day, Tropic Thunder is still one of the best comedies ever created! I still find myself watching this movie annually and making references to it.
We need a TROPIC THUNDER 2 so we can shove it right down the throats of all these people who got butthurt over it. This movie is amazing. A classic. And will ALWAYS be funny!
It wasn't that long ago. They could make it today just the 3percent of people who see everything as racist or insensitive and have to yell instead of just not watching a movie are louder now. To be honest I missed the first part of the movie because I was making popcorn in the kitchen and my wife was in the bathroom. Both of us where shocked when we found out it was Robert downing Jr in makeup. I literally never laughed so hard and respected a actor so much lol. Had no idea what the "you people" quote was about till that point.
It could be made today but the libs don’t no how to take a joke. They ruin everything. All they want is control. Liberals want to control you Conservatives want you to keep your freedom. Just remember that.
They said it couldn’t be made back then, of course it can be made there will just be a lot of mad people. We gotta stop saying “can’t make that today” nothing has changed, people clearly still find it funny and interesting to watch, we just pretend we can’t.
It probably could be made today. It’s not like it was made in the 70s, my dude. It sucks that the guy playing Alpa didn’t have a big boost after this. (I legitimately can’t remember his name and I am far too stoned to google.) I’m pretty far left and I think this is probably one of the funniest movies ever made. If people find it offensive, I think they’re missing the fact that it’s pretty blatant satire. (I’d put it on the same level as Blazing Saddles, tbh.)
Yup, one of my all time fav's. I remember seeing this in theatres with my buddies in grade 12. The movie ended and I just caught "Tom Cruise" in the credits and it clicked, but I had watched the whole thing without realizing he was Les in the movie. I told my friends as we got up to leave and no one believed me Les was Tom haha. His character is still one of my favorite parts of the movie.
I did the same thing, I was very confused when his name came up in the credits. Ofcourse had to wait till I got home to IMDB it and couldn't believe how well his makeup was.
I just watched the movie (I've seen it once or twice years ago, so I didn't remember what other actors than RDJ were in it) and I only realized Les was Tom Cruise in the scene where they're talking with Flaming Dragon the first time:D
"Us people." Black dude "Who the f*** are you calling us people." Hilarious. Or "I made a movie about astronauts and three weeks after the production closed they found me in a refrigerator in an alley doing a re-entry."
@@edbelben6273 Nah of course, he's the director and simple jack was funny af and the over the top B movie action character was well done. It's just that I feel RDJ and Tom Cruise were perfect to just make this epic.
Saw this movie after my first tour in Afghanistan and loved it. My whole team loved it. "Never go full retard" became a catchphrase, it's message perfect and simple, carrying me through two more deployments and helping me deal with the last two year's events.
It is ironic that Downey was actually giving good advice, or criticism. Going full retard was a bad choice. On another topic, Downey's part was funny because he wasn't a fake black. He could pass for black (great actor) and sort of considered himself to be a real black. Weirdly great film.
When Jack Black’s character goes running to get the drugs, while he screams “ Don’t judge me !” was and is one of the best commentaries on drug abuse in any movie or documentary I’ve ever seen. So sadly true and so spot on hilarious.
Stiller has simply honored the path that Brooks paved before him. This movie could be argued as an homage to Blazing Saddles. Modern classic and one of my personal all-time favorite comedies.
THERE'S a name I've not heard in a loooong time!! Mel Brookes, huh? I think Spaceballs was his Magnum Opus, personally, but I've also found that movies that I used to think were utterly hysterical- when I was a teenager- lost a LOT of their appeal as I grew up. Movies like History of the World Pt. 1 was one of those movies that we would quote endlessly in high school. When I watched it again, recently-ish, I found that I couldn't even laugh at it. Not one part appeared to be funny. Obviously, this doesn't apply to Blazing Saddles and to Spaceballs, but there does seem to be a LARGE body of work by Brookes that only seems to be funny to teenagers...
This film, as you mentioned, will go down as one of the greatest satires of all time. It was ahead and above it's time in tone and context and for that, will never not be relevant. Yes, it had problematic elements but that was intentional. it was meant to be offense because of what it was trying to do. Forever a classic and I'm so happy to see it still be admired to this day.
I wouldn't even call those elements problematic because of the context and tone of the movie. When art portrays sensitive matter in a tasteful manner and with substance, it should not be considered offensive. Tropic Thunder got away with all of it for the same reason Tarantino gets away with all he does in his movies. Tropic Thunder was started as a satire but it works perfectly fine even as just plain comedy. Nowadays you can't even get out of bed without someone somewhere finding the way you gout out of bed offensive. That doesn't always mean you shouldn't get out of bed.. Hell, there are people who go out of their way to look for things they can claim they find offensive. A statement or expression should not be considered offensive unless it is either ignorant or actually means to offend.
The reality that work like this exposes is that absolutely everyone fully understands what parody and satire are. No one is confused nor “misinterpreting” these efforts, not ever. People are just willing to blatantly lie about these things in order to feel important and moralize, demonstrating entirely the constant need for art like this
Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. It is truth. As you do practice forgiveness. It’s an important step most miss. Jesus Christ is Lord.
Absolutely. I mean, RDJ went (I think) above and beyond and sat down with the NAACP to make sure he wasn’t doing anything that could be considered racist in the movie by playing Kirk. Everything in the movie is satirizing Hollywood and how fucking ridiculous the whole culture is. I mean, if you can sit through the fake trailers and not get an idea for what kind of movie it is, then it’s not the movie for you.
It simply shows how ridiculous Hollywood and the entertainment business has been over the years and still is to certain extent. The industry has been rife with racism and sexism for decades and has got away with it. I don’t exactly enjoy the movie and it’s style of comedy but I fully support the way it rips into Hollywood with no restraint.
Creating ‘news’ for the sake of having news is what I call it. Just people looking to make someone else their way of getting recognized. It’s just unprofessional.
literally not that many people hate it....Its just not all that great over a decade since it came out. The Cable Guy is more hated for just being awful more than people who dislike Tropic Thunder
@@lutherheggs451 not that great? Man, I wonder if you even got all the jokes that were layered and seamlessly delivered without any unintended lulls to let the jokes sink in. It also helps to know who each character is poking fun at. I mean, the jabs at Stallone for multiple sequels basically doing the same thing over and over again; is good stuff. Plus, I think the joke about the Asians only knowing his work on an obscure and terrible movie; was also joking about Stallone and some bad movies that he took like that one he did with Dolly Parton. I don’t know, maybe I just find imitation a lot more entertaining than you. Anyway, I’ll see you around.

Every aspect of this movie is integral to what makes it so funny and unique, every actor brought such a personality to the screen and the entire satirical attitude of the movie makes it an absolute gem
Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. It is truth. As you do practice forgiveness. It’s an important step most miss. Jesus Christ is Lord.
Seriously, if Les Grossman were to be the only character in a movie consisting of him yelling at people and ordering ppl to punch "that guy" in the face, then screaming "diet coke!" - I'd be all in.
Making fake trailers and adds in the beginning of the movie was pure genius. I remember watching this in theaters and knowing something was off but once they got going, we got the joke and couldn’t stop laughing. This movie is just too good
Same here. Trailers were playing like normal and then suddenly the Booty Sweat ad started playing. It totally fooled me as I sat there staring at the screen wondering, "What the hell is this?!" Of course I lost it once the Scorcher trailer started and I realized we were already nearly a minute into the movie. Nonstop laughing from that point on.
RDJ was so good in this movie that he did blackface an nobody cared cuz he was absolutely hilarious! I love this movie....."I'm a dude playing a dude, disguised as another dude"..... priceless
People understood that the blackface wasn't mocking Black Americans, it was to mock pretentious (white) actors we think they are so much into "Their art" that they would do blackface because they think they could actually pull it off if they say they now understand the experience of the African American.
Tom Cruise really should do more comedy! He totally nails it and is the star of this movie! The scenes with Les Grossman are the most hilarious parts of it.
When you watch the movie you feel like "this is the kind of movie that should not have been created in Hollywood under normal circumstances" but thanks to some miracle, it was... It is hilarious movie and actors carried it hard... this kind of movie really shows you the difference between great actors and mediocre actors... Robert Downey Jr. should have received Oscar for Tropical thunder.
A testament to the genuis of this film is that even 12 years later, im still sitting here laughing out loud at someone explaining the absurdity of this movie and all the outside events surrounding it. Tom dancing with J-Lo is f*cking hilarious 😂
I laughed so hard I nearly died when I saw this. RDJ, Steve Coogan, Tom, Jack... they all crushed it. Ben Stiller was awesome. It's a f*cking masterpiece.
I seriously thought I needed an ambulance for my broken ribs, laughing so hard. I had to watch the movie at least 5 more times because I kept missing jokes, due to me laughing through them. And now, I have to see Stiller's red carpet appearance at 10:22. It looks like he showed up still fully playing the role of Tug Speedman. Even his agent cutting off reporters is rivaling Matthew McConaughey's Rick Peck. Hahaha, classic🤣
Hands down funniest movie I ever seen in my life. Now that the sensitive outrage era has taken over we'll probably never see movies like this again. Also I'm black and the first time I seen this movie I had no clue RDJ's character was him or even white for that matter, and when I finally realized what was going on I laughed so hard I cried. Wasn't at all offended nor do I know any other black ppl offended by it.
I'm just curious what your skin color has to do with anything. Racism is perpetual because of what your saying just FYI....for racism to die we need to stop focusing on our skin colors, so you just saying it in your comment is not a good way to get where we should be. If we want racism to go away we all have to check ourselves. We know who the racists are so let's not help them out by point to things as irrelevant as skin color
@@borisjohnsonslostcomb7457 well because it was a white actor pretending to be black, that action has a dark history behind it. And to be clear I'm not saying I'm cool with blackface under any circumstance, sometimes it can be offensive specially the way they did it back in the day. And I was fine when Jimmy Fallon pretended to be Karl Malone. I guess it depends on the occasion, the context, and how they make it look. Boris I wish we didn't see or care about race but that's not reality. And if it wasn't about race it would be about something else like sexually or religion all the way down to where we're from or what team we root for. For example I'm black but alot of Africans iv met not all but a a good amount don't like me because I'm American I guess. As humans we find reasons to dislike each other, if it's not racism it's some form of tribalism.
Yeah the role was never intended to offend black people because it was specifically supposed to make fun of white actors playing blacks and how ridiculous it is. Also poking fun at method acting. It really was a genius bit of writing. Basically the same thing as Chappelle playing a funny ass white guy to demonstrate white privilege.
I was involved in the making of this movie for about 4 months and loved every day of it. Such an awesome movie filmed in an amazing place. Ben was a lot of fun to work with, and the parties thrown by him and also some after parties at Nick’s house we awesome! Really enjoyed working with Robert as well pre iron man. I could go on and on…..
I think RDJ's performance is one of the greatest ever. It was terribly unfortunate that he was up against Ledger for Best Supporting Actor that year, because they both deserved it.
There is a movie with a similar situation like how they find themselves in danger but they think it's a movie set it's called The Three Amigos. I don't know how old you are and if you've ever seen it but you should definitely check it out it has some of the Great comedians of that time Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Chevy Chase.
Just watched this movie again this week. Bought it on eBay. Did not ever watch it with commentary till now. RDJ does not drop the voice like promised in the movie. Hilarious.
The only behind the scenes problem I know about is not really a problem at all, where Matthew McConaughey replaced Owen Wilson in the movie because Wilson was dealing with mental health issues
Rick Peck was only suited for Matthew McConaughey, I read that Owen Wilson tried to commit suicide. I loved that Matthew McConaughey stepped in for the role giving Owen a chance to relax
This is indeed one of the best comedies I've ever seen. Outstanding performances by all of them, especially Downey jr. and Cruise! Is Ben Stiller a comedic genius? Yes! I know atm he"m's making other stuff, but i would live to see him make some more comedy!
This movie is one of my favorite comedy movies. I find it hilarious and I am a black female. From the first trailer, I was in for the foolery. I find Robert Downy Jr.'s character hilarious. Comedy is supposed to be entertaining and may offend some. In my opinion, people who are offended can do what I do when I do not like something...do not watch it and move on with your life!
One thing I like is that in the end Robert turns into Terence Hill. I can't remember the title because he made so many movies, but in one spaghetti western Hill puts on 'Asian face' as a disguise, just like Robert does in Tropic Thunder. Although Hill's character only uses it as an disguise, there are a lot of movies where white actors (John Wayne, Marlon Brando, Mickey Rooney, Max von Sydow, Peter Sellers, David Carradine, etc.) played Asian characters for real. Although the 'slanted eye' make-up has disappeared for obvious reasons, Hollywood was (is?) still whitewashing a lot of canonically Asian characters, Goku from Dragonball. Aang and friends from The Last Airbender, Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, etc. This movie is peak satire. And Tom Cruise is just brilliant in this LMAO!
"offense" is in people's heads..it is their responsibility whether they get offended or not. if someone says something awful to me..i just say 'that's nice" and walk away.
@@awandererfromys1680 People nowadays feing to be offended for things like J.K Rowling saying she finds uncomfortable to share the bathroom with (trans) penis... To this day, after about 50 movies ive watched in a cinema, Tropic Thunder is the only one i've gone to watch twice. Granted, i had just moved to a new town when it came out and i was lacking in other entertainment but even at the second watching i could thoroughly enjoy it. A good parody is really, really funny - and enjoyable!
Many mention the great performances by some of the big names, but the secondary characters are just as well written and performed. Danny McBride’s character mumbling to himself he’s going into catering after this is just one among so many gems, gets me every time. Got to get the director’s cut now!
I work outside and often motivate myself with either "Let's rub some Tiger Balm on this jungle's nuts" or "Mother Nature pissed her pantsuit!" The latter is usually used when I gotta "fight off" dogs.
This movie is one of the greats. The last of a generation before the internet was overrun with people requiring constant validation and attention. Because of this it creates a Catch-22 of not being able to release a Tropic Thunder 2 for fear that it's being made in hate instead of comedy. Honestly its a shame in a world that needs it the most.
"Those who don't get the joke, probably never will" People said the same thing about Mel Brooks. I think, in time, we will see something in the same vein of Tropic Thunder.
I know it’s a small joke in this epic but Sanduski explaining the whole dvd/porn/blu-ray stuff, only to have Lazarus say “you were talking to me this whole time?” So funny. It’s highlighted more in the directors cut tho.
The fact that all the outrage was about portraying Simple Jack instead of RDJ’s blackface tells you all about how “controversy of the week” the outrage mob has been for years. People that get outraged on behalf of others don’t actually want to make the world better. They want to score karma points for themselves.
Came across this film in a used dvd shop and bought it not knowing much about it....it's sooooo good...I still randomly say "I don't read script..script reads me" every so often 😂
I think what this video did is give me a greater appreciation for Ben Stiller. It’s easy to forget just how much great comedic content he is responsible for, especially since the comedy genre does not receive the same level of reverence and acknowledgment as dramatic film. His ideas don’t always pan out (see Zoolander 2), but a lot of the time it does. I just watched *The Cable Guy* the other day and it is impossible not to appreciate just how uniquely funny that movie is. And probably the biggest testament to this movie’s (Tropic Thunder’s) power is the fact that it literally has blackface and somehow still hasn’t been canceled. That is unheard of in the year 2022. I’ve always kind of squirmed/cringed at the Simple Jack trailer, but the rest of the film far outweighs its perceived negatives.
@@torstenhehmann3301 It was a white man wearing blackface and getting an Oscar nomination for the role. So whatever the reason is, it’s quite the feat to have survived modern day cancel culture.
@@Lepidopterous. Because it doesn't exist. The only people to be cancelled have been paedophiles and even then not that many. Usually crying about being cancelled causes an uptick in sales.
@@torstenhehmann3301 We know why it contained blackface. But context, and nuance are meaningless to the outrage brigade. I was actually surprised *IN 2008* (when I saw the trailer) that a film studio would risk almost 100 million dollars on a film with a main character in blackface (regardless of the reasons for that creative choice), and was quite frankly shocked that it didn't garner more than token opposition that quickly faded away (perhaps because people remembered that there are important things to care about). That sort of thing was a "cancellable offence" back then too, and this was 10 years before the phenomenon even became known as "cancel culture." To be fair, I highly doubt that movie could get made today, not even with all the context in the world. But I'm glad it was made. It's one of my favourite comedies, and in the running for Ben Stiller's best movie (I liked _There's Something About Mary_ and _Zoolander_ too, but while the greatness of Stiller's acting in those films is debatably a bit better, _Tropic Thunder_ is probably the better movie).
@@torstenhehmann3301 tell that to the people who made it’s always sunny. Complete satire and the episodes that feature black and brown face have been completely scrubbed from existence
This was ine of the BEST comedies ever created. We saw it in the theater and laughed until we cried. Had to see it a second time just to hear the parts we missed due to the laughter if the crowd. And luckily we had NO idea Tom Cruise was in the movie. We were whispering to each other..."that's gotta be Tom Cruise!" Lol
This is one of the best comedy film ever and i still wonder how did they end up getting such A list cast and made them such stupid hilarious s*it. I can watch this multiple times in a row and still don't get bored. I know it's stupid but it was written to be stupid, they wanted it to be OTT. And Tom cruise and RDJ were insane.
Legendary movie. Not because it's a great movie, I mean it is. Legendary because it's something that can't be accomplished with today's standards - & it's sad.
Hollywood studios need to stop listening to the peddlers of outrage clickbait who probably wouldn’t see it anyway. Honestly people who care about woke shit is just a vocal bunch of losers on twitter and tiktok and they’re ruining pop culture for everyone else.
Of course it could be accomplished with today's standards. Just as the standards of the time Blazing Saddles was released and the standards of 2005 were vastly different, it never stopped either being made and acclaimed. The same is true today.
There are no standards today. People are more morally corrupt now then they've ever been. They just act virtuous, fooling only their fellow smooth brained cult.
I remember being almost stunned by the insanity of it when I saw it in the theater. I still laugh just THINKING of some of the scenes - it's such a perfect satire and a great demonstration why comedy should not/cannot be bounded by hurt feelings.
I legit remember seeing the first movie trailer for this and I immediately saw they were sanitizing the hell outta Hollywood. Went and saw it opening weekend and loved it so much I bought it on DVD and now own it on Blu-ray.
Had to go see this movie multiple times because I would laugh so long I would miss half the movie.....not knowing Les was Tom Cruise until the credits was EPIC!
My very first R-Rated movie I saw in theaters. I was 12 and my friend was 11 and our moms got us tickets. I don't think any of us realized it was rated R. Ever since the first time I saw it I've been enamored with it. Still one of the greatest comedies of the 2000s. Director's Cut FTW

I had heard nothing about this movie when I saw it. I watched it for about an hour before realising there was something "odd" about RDJ's character. Then I looked it up on IMDB and wanted to watch it from the start again. I was gobsmacked.
i had no idea that Tom Cruise was even that character until the end credits. Granted i was a teenager and stoned but it was a pleasant surprise and nice to laugh with him for once instead of at him
Tom Cruise in his proffessional career is no laughing matter though, he is freaking amazing, the stunts he does are just mind blowing, his work ethic and authenticity as well :)
This is one of the best comedies of all-time...if it had a tighter final act it would be in the conversation for all-time best. Fucking love this movie.

This is one of the greatest social commentaries ever, while being a great comedy. The fact it has not been cancelled says a lot, despite its content. Everything was both perfectly written into the story and made extremely absurd, so it cannot be mistaken as promoting any of it. It is like a great stand-up comedian, who talks about the darkest subjects by using jokes, which puts everything in perspective and makes it easier for people to discuss. RDJ's blackface was introduced as an attempt by a washed up actor to be relevant, which touches both on blackface itself and the portrayal of black guys always being super cool in movies. Jack Black's diva with a drug problem is taking the drug problem both seriously, but also shows how it is sort of expected from someone who is super famous. Ben Stiller playing someone who is mentally not 100%, but that performance is more human and meaningful than he is an a person (in the movie, not real life Ben Stiller). As well as the whole movie set gone to shits, ending up in an actual war, like the production of Apocalypse Now, with the overbearing studio breathing down the film crews neck.
It wasn't so much that RDJ was satirizing the portrayal that "black guys are always being super cool in movies" and more he was satirizing the pretentious white British or Australian actor who thinks he is elevating Hollywood via his craft. He was also satirizing the Hollywood troup that the African American Vietnam war grunt was often depicted as the "Magic Negro" in that he was street smart, hip, knew every song the Temptations ever made, while also being the spiritual and moral compess for a conflicted, naive, young white "Cherry" rookie soldier from a middle-class background, fresh off the plane from the world, and usually torn over some moral issue about the war. The African American Vietnam war soldier character often filled the role of the "Good angel" telling the naive white kid not to be corrupted by the devil, a white Sergeant authority figure, often a Southern redneck type, who is openly racist, and uses excessively brutal methods to fight the war. The war experience for the naive soldier is often depicted as a mini civil war in the platoon where he is torn between the angel and devil. Stiller was lampooning the redneck authority figure and RDJ was lampooning the wise beyond his years' black soldier battling for the soul of the innocent naive soldier.

Virtually every actor in this film increased their street cred many fold. Absolute genius film. Could not be made today.
It wasn't that long ago. They could make it today just the 3percent of people who see everything as racist or insensitive and have to yell instead of just not watching a movie are louder now. I’m pretty far left and I think this is probably one of the funniest movies ever made.
Me too... I realized who he was at the credits too like, WTF is that Motherfucking Tom Cruise? No way!!!!
I did the same thing, I was very confused when his name came up in the credits. Ofcourse had to wait till I got home to IMDB it and couldn't believe how well his makeup was.

The contrast between Ben Stiller's roles in Tropic Thunder and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is the main reason he's one of my favorite actors
Easily one of the best comedies ever made. RDJ and Cruise performances were both deserving of awards.
I agree
Nothing is "problematic" in it you clown. Don't ever give the offended by everything full retards an inch.
Tropic Thunder, Idiocracy, all modern classics.
Could not say it better.. thank you ... truly..........:. ( bows and tips hat )
I don't agree it had problematic elements, those were actually the best parts. This film tried to push the boundary and it did it so well.
The reality that work like this exposes is that absolutely everyone fully understands what parody and satire are. No one is confused nor “misinterpreting” these efforts, not ever.
People are just willing to blatantly lie about these things in order to feel important and moralize, demonstrating entirely the constant need for art like this

@@dairallan it wouldn’t be as provocative or as cutting. And satire needs that edge.
@@andrewcutler1380 IDK, BlacKkKlansman was pretty cutting.
There are no standards today. People are more morally corrupt now then they've ever been. They just act virtuous, fooling only their fellow smooth brained cult.
The outrage dies, the art lives on! One of the best movie ever.
I remember being almost stunned by the insanity of it when I saw it in the theater. I still laugh just THINKING of some of the scenes - it's such a perfect satire and a great demonstration why comedy should not/cannot be bounded by hurt feelings.
They need to pret3nd this offended group of people, everybody knows who that is=D , doesn't even exist
Verbatim
I legit remember seeing the first movie trailer for this and I immediately saw they were sanitizing the hell outta Hollywood. Went and saw it opening weekend and loved it so much I bought it on DVD and now own it on Blu-ray.
Had to go see this movie multiple times because I would laugh so long I would miss half the movie.....not knowing Les was Tom Cruise until the credits was EPIC!
Never met anyone in my life who didn't like this movie. It's a masterpiece. Every second of it. Every phrase.
We desperately need more comedies like Tropic Thunder these days. I haven't laughed as hard at any film since this masterpiece was made.
You never mentioned what your mom's thought about it when they found out it was R and the content? Or is that something they never knew about?
@@jasonpye4649 Maybe she knew and that is why?
Oh my god this movie is so fucking hilarious and Matthew McConaughey on its own it’s worth watching I mean .”I got you tugboat””Well at least you got to choose yours “I mean the man has good ass one-liners in his movie , not to mention Tom Cruise breaking it down , Robert Downey Jr. I mean this movie is amazing to me in my honest opinion thank you for making this video.
Hey Tuggernuts😂. Who’d you kill, Amanda. Get some lime…😂MY FRIEND WANTS A TI-VO, MY GRIEND GETS A TI-VO!😂
I didn't watch Tropic Thunder for 10 years once it came out. I don't like a lot of Ben Stiller's work but when I finally watched this one I have to admit he knocked it out of the park. I was stuck on a plane and it was one of the movies I could watch and so I saw it in choach. Kinda miss not seeing it in theaters but oh well. It was there when I needed it.
Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. It is truth. As you do practice forgiveness. It’s an important step most miss.
Jesus Christ is Lord
This movie is a great comedy. Satire writing characters and jokes are up in the same realm as Mel Brooks. Comedy classic comedy gold
I had a gf who didn't get this movie, she quickly became ex-gf
This is by far my favorite comedy. I remember thinking it was going to be a legit war movie (as I never saw the promotional material) and it turned out to be one of the best movie experiences I’ve ever had. Can’t say I’ve ever laughed so hard at a movie before
Got the movie on DVD and the director's cut Blu ray and still laughing my ass off every time watching it 🤣
That voice-over review by some of the the actors, is here on TH-cam. And it’s hilarious.

New 4K release will have theatrical cut,!!! Comes out soon
I gotta go grab this on DVD, yes in 2023 I need a hard copy.

So what's going with our neighbors is just one big, long term bad joke!
Hey, is his Mexican counterpart a jokester too?!
@@jed-henrywitkowski6470 Mexican Joker? Nah that's a real thing.
Heard he went to America and had forced sex with all of the LGBT+ people.
Castings so perfect it's hard to believe they wanted anyone else for the roles
In a way, this movie is a litmus test to categorize people that do and don't have a sense of humor of their own without a layer of woke. Sometimes it's okay to laugh at something in bad taste if there are no hard feelings. But it's very risky and you never know!
Easily one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen! Everyone involved was at the top of their games! Especially RDJ and Tom Cruise
One of the best comedies i ever seen. Love when people that often plays more serious roles tries on comedy. Cruise and Downey JR were awesome. So sad that hollywood is so dead when it comes to comedy now.
How so?
@@tenebrae23 Robert Downey jr. was asked if they were to make Tropic Thunder today, would Hollywood green light it? He said no, that movie wouldn't be possible today, too much cry babies out there. That's why.
Epic movie will be forever legendary. Performances and cast were on point!
I loved this movie the first time I watched it.
The Irish angle would have been cool in parallel to “Red” the white Irish character in the book, “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank redemption” being played by Morgan Freeman and the joke, “maybe it’s because I’m Irish”.
I never knew that. Then who was Tim Robbins character? Not that important - anyways that is a great movie.

First time I saw Tropic thunder I saw it for free a friend of mine got tickets for the viewing. I was literally on the theater floor laughing. I paid to see it again and I watched it over and over my kids and I do lines from the movie all the time.
It's so weird to see Ben Stiller doing technical BTS stuff. the footage in this video is probably the first time I've seen him on that side of the production.
This is one of my favorite comedies ever and doesn't receive the recognition it deserves. I for one didn't realize it was Tom Cruise until late in the movie.
Yes, if you watch the film with commentary, RDJ never breaks character. That was beautiful!!!
Awesome video as always. Tropic Thunder is a comedy classic. Haven't laughed that hard in a theater since.
I would love to see a WTF happened to Warcraft. It is a solid 7/10.
I remember I couldn't believe it was Downey under all that makeup even though I knew it was him. His performance was just so surreal. And I was salty about how I was completely oblivious that Grossman was actually Cruise.
40 year old virgin, super bad and tropic thunder in one summer. That was an amazing summer
agreed. This was the best comedy. The characters held it all together so amazingly.
I delayed watching this movie because I thought it was just going to be another dumb movie. Then I rented it. Then when I was done laughing my ass off and wiping away tears, I bought it immediately. So good!
It was an incredible movie. I have a socially/mentally challenged child and I never felt offended by Simple Jack. I use phrases from Simple Jack to this day. We laugh at people that get upset with the "R" word. Harvey Weinstein was masterful in this film.
The only film to ever cause me actual physical damage. I think I cracked a rib, either from laughing so hard, or from the fall when I blacked out due to lack of oxygen from... laughing so hard.
Everyone needs to watch this in commentary mode. It is funny to hear RDJr in character for another two hours.
One of those where every other line is a memorable one liner. I can watch it 3 times a week and it still cracks me up.
i was lucky to watch it in theatres and not know it was tom cruise until the end, i was blown away. Tom and Ben both skyrocketed on my favs list because of this movie.
I had heard nothing about this movie when I saw it. I watched it for about an hour before realising there was something "odd" about RDJ's character. Then I looked it up on IMDB and wanted to watch it from the start again. I was gobsmacked.
First time I watched It I literally didn't notice that it was Tom Cruise until like the end of the movie when he was dancing and smiling :D
i had no idea that Tom Cruise was even that character until the end credits.
One of the few movies my body hurt from laughing so hard in the theater.
This is an epic hilarious movie and it worries me that we will not get this kind of humor with our current political correct society. One of my favorite movies so good
That's why we have Dave and Ricky who are becoming stronger voices and therefore encouraging others to speak out and bring common sense back to the world.
Imagine trying to write a screenplay where you are so limited by PC that you end up painting yourself into multiple corners at the same time. Never being able for the story to naturally develop and become it's own beast. No horses heads?
@@jfilm7466 I agree, ppl need to top feeling like special snow flakes, im asian and I think it's halirous about the flaming dragon gang lol, simple jack 😆
It wasn't so much that RDJ was satirizing the portrayal that "black guys are always being super cool in movies" and more he was satirizing
the pretentious white British or Australian actor who thinks he is elevating Hollywood via his craft. He was also satirizing the Hollywood
troup that the African American Vietnam war grunt was often depicted as the "Magic Negro" in that he was street smart, hip, knew every song
the Temptations ever made, while also being the spiritual and moral compess for a conflicted, naive, young white "Cherry" rookie soldier
from a middle-class background, fresh off the plane from the world, and usually torn over some moral issue about the war.
The African American Vietnam war soldier character often filled the role of the "Good angel" telling the naive white kid not to be corrupted by
the devil, a white Sergeant authority figure, often a Southern redneck type, who is openly racist, and uses excessively brutal methods to fight the war.
The war experience for the naive soldier is often depicted as a mini civil war in the platoon where he is torn between the angel and devil.
Stiller was lampooning the redneck authority figure and RDJ was lampooning the wise beyond his years' black soldier battling for the soul of
the innocent naive soldier.
