Sir Elton John never disappoints! Mohair is fabric made from yarn made from angora goats. It is a very old fabric type, was used a lot for suits, scarves, hats and coats.

This song hit #1 on both the Pop and Soul Charts making Elton John the first Caucasian artist after Elvis to hit #1 on the Soul Chart!😮😊

Love how we YEARS, MAYBE DECADES, have the same vibe about a song

How does a person get that talented? Player, singer, composer and performer, what can this guy not do.

Mohair is a type of wool from the hair of the Angora goat. Garments made from this type of fabric tends to be very expensive and unlike other cheaper wool garments, they tend not to be itchy on the skin

You're correct about the fatted calf quote from the Bible, it's the parable of the Prodigal Son. Back to the song though, Eltons performances are unique & when live always seem different each time, however you really need to listen to the studio recording to get the full range of Eltons voice & piano playing which borders on Honky Tonk

This is a track off of the double album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", which I think is Elton's best. There are so many fantastic songs on that album - Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, the title track, Candle in the Wind, Sweet Painted Lady, Gray Seal, to name a few. Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is Elton's and Bernie's opus.

A couple of comments: The idiom “kill the fatted calf” dates back 2000 years to a story that Jesus made up, The Parable of the Prodigal Son. In the story, the father kills the fatted calf so that they can have a big celebration and eat tasty, tasty veal.
Mohair refers to a silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat. These boots coupled with a mohair suit exemplifies the flash and extravagance of the 70s music scene and the artists, even Elton himself.
The ‘60s and '70s were a time of huge generational struggles, where kids rebelled against their parents. This came not just in countercultural activities, drugs, and free love, but also in kids liking new music and defending its value to their parents. In a more literal sense, it could refer to the Vietnam War and other issues of the day that pitted the younger generation against the older in protests on the street.

Mohair is a type of wool.

  • @danielferguson3784

Mohair is a wool from a type of goat, which when made into suite cloth gives it a sort of smooth sheen, very popular around the time of this music, i e 50's/60's onwards.
Bennie & the jets is an imaginary pop group of the era.

Please watch the 1980 Central Park concert version. He adds all kinds of extreme piano solo to it and a little faster tempo. Total showmanship on display and you'll really get to see what an incredible musician he is.

I’ve loved this song since it came out ‘74, but to this day, I have no idea what the words to the song are, except for the title! Good thing you pulled the lyrics up to read along with the song or you’d have no idea either, lol.

Mohair Suits very popular in the last 60's and all of the 70's
IS A MOHAIR SUIT RIGHT FOR ME? EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MOHAIR (AND HOW TO WEAR IT)
What man doesn’t want a touch of the Bond mystique? Mohair suits are off-the-radar for many less suit-experienced men, yet they offer a delicious-looking, superb alternative to cotton and linen suits. Today we asked the Oliver Wicks experts on their take on mohair and what the sharp-dressing man of the 2020s needs to know about this wrinkle-resistant and attractive suit fabric.
A mohair suit is a stiff but breathable fiber. This means it carries a unique sheen alongside the look of a traditional suit, without the more casual ambiance of linen or cotton. Despite this, it’s hard-wearing and resistant to stains and creases. Thus, it’s practical for men who are a little more active day to day and don’t want to worry about looking disheveled or damaging their suits. If you’re wanting an effortless, practical alternative that keeps you looking stylish, this could be the fabric you’ve been waiting for.

Elton lost the upper range of his voice in the eighties through general mistreatment (and he was reportedly smoking a lot of weed at the time, as well as consuming copious amount of cocaine, which surely did not help). It's a musical tragedy, because his falsetto voice was one of the most marvellous I have ever heard in popular music. It was truly a thing of beauty.
