Your next line is, "He would be a broken character if he was in another fighting game!"
He would be a broken character if he was in another fighting game!
NANIIII?!
Well, imagine in GGS, its like Axel Low ground grapple but rly fast and also hitting air, whilist he also gets a counter for some weird reason and cross ups... and has white wild assult...
CLACKER VOLLEY- CLACKER VOLLEY- CLACKE- CLACK- CLACKER VOL- CLA-
i can hear this comment
It isn't a "Scooby Doo Run", it's a SECRET TECHNIQUE!
Love Joseph but it's both let's be real here
"you gotta play smarter, not harder"
So... you gotta play like joseph then? Thats kinda cool.
you have no idea how funny i find it that the clackers are such an iconic weapon when joseph used it for like
less than 2 minutes
it's not like pluck and luck which was significant in jonathan's journey and to his character or DIO's knives that were pretty important during the fight
He's so cool for that
“I wasn’t able to defeat you with my most powerful attack; confusing spinny balls!”
“Better get training then, bye lol”
*never brought up again and is then a key part of his moveset here and his GHA in ASB*
They aren't relevant but I think besides *The Technique* it shows the kind of fighter Joseph is perfectly. Underhanded and unassuming, if it works then it's not stupid.
Part of the reason most Part 2 fights are some of my favourite in the series are because many fights with Joseph rely on human ingenuity and simple tools (the clackers are easily the most memorable imo. esp since it's in the finale). And unlike every other part after too, the show actually usually sign-posts what trick he'll end up pulling on the opponent, or follow a pretty reasonable leap of logic. In 3-6 ass-pulls are constant (btw I love fights in 5 in particular. Not saying this will automatically make the fights bad).
Araki doesn't seem to know what information you should actually let the reader in on when it comes to what the protagonist is planning, and it makes a lot of fights feel dumber. Especially in Part 3 where there's not a lot of choreography either and they stand around a lot.
@@thecatastrophe132 well, it's either that or a random ass pull volcano rock
Joseph doesn't really have a go to move to defeat his opponents, unlike the other jojos
@@tedjomuljono3052How would they incorporate the volcano into a super?
He's called Proud Lineage Joseph because Battle Tendency was originally called Proud Lineage rather than Battle Tendency
Denying young joseph the fat clacker hitboxes he deserves is the most evil thing this game did
Clackers are already annoying bro nobody wants your character to be buffed when he just IGNORES damage scaling
He's top tier because he's a chuck Norris recolor
“This bottom tier would be great in any other fighting game.” Seems to be the mantra of Heritage low tiers
That's just the mantra of HftF period. It's a fighting game SO busted and janky that even the worst characters in its roster would be borderline game-breakingly overpowered in any other traditional fighting game
I remember telling someone that Hol Horse, a guy with million projectile, a safe-ish zoner and unblockable setup has one of the best roll, highest defense in the game, and easy ToD and he's staggered. All while I hadn't mention that he's just in the mid-low tier lmao
Both Josephs have always been really cool to me, wish they were in a game where being bottom half of the tier list wasn't a death sentence
i always thought old joseph was funny since some of his normals are active for a really long time, most of which were dashing normals so you could go into CC, end with 360, and then strike throw, it encourages a pretty unique way to play HFTF
No mention of Aja setups or how buggy 2C is. See me after class.
For real though, this is actually very well researched, kept nodding whenever you spoke about something that any YoJo should know. Heck, I even went "What about 5S rekka ender being punishable without doing 2 hits prior?" and you IMMEDIATLY addressed it. Great video, and I'm glad you didn't hype up the character by saying how broken clackers are or how his mobility is excellent, you kept it real and informative all the way. Cheers, you made me want to quit from my retirement!
Well, how is 2C bugged
It has 2 bugs:
One where you can't do the attack properly by holding back, doing 2C AND being close to an enemy attack, because 2C cancels into block
And another one where you can cancel 2C by releasing 2 right after pressing it
What are the Aja setups I have to know
@@yojohftf8406 if you can cancel 2C immidiately after doing it, does that mean it's actually extremely + on block
@@lancergt1000the glitch only works with its startup
Great timing! Got my fried shrimp, a fresh HFTF breakdown to watch, I'm dining like a king tonight.
Damn save me some of that
you cant afford fried shrimp with that salary
I'm baking a salmon tonight with spices and lemons on top. I'm just watching this vid to kill time til it's done. Hope the fried shrimp kicks ass.
@@DrewPDrawerz They certainly did, I hope your salmon is just as good.
@@GumshoeClassic It was just ok, but I know better for next time. Butter was a bad idea.
Young Joseph being honest is ironic since he has that move where he shoots a projectile behind himself to pop out the other side lol.
I gotta admit though, their movesets look like a blast to play with.
Young Joseph being honest is ironic since he is young joseph lol. Guy was an absolute bamboozler
@@elfascisto6549 right!? Lmao
I don't care if he's kinda bad, as soon as I saw that my favorite Jojo had a command grab I knew he was my main.
with zero context for what hftf's code looks like, player 2 getting an extra frame of wakeup throw invuln sounds like a flub with the order of operations of the state handler. which may sound like some weird technical esoterica, but it's really just that computers can't actually do multiple things simultaneously ( unless deferred across multiple cores, but that has its own hurdles and is wholly irrelevant for a 1998 arcade game anyhow ) so anything that _appears_ simultaneous is actually happening sequentially in the space between the frames outputted for us. which means even when it looks like characters in a game are advancing to the next frame of their animation at the same time, the reality is that one is finished entering their next frame before the others even start the whole process. this is usually mostly innocuous in a lot of games, but in something like a fighting game where every individual frame of a character's animation can have very different properties, well ...
let's just put it like this. the game probably handles player 1 before player 2 because why wouldn't it. when player 2 wakes up, they're given 3 frames of throw invuln, and player 1 tries to throw them with a 3 active frame grab. game updates player 1 and checks their hitboxes, sees they hit player 2 but they're throw invuln, updates player 2 and drops 'em to 2 frames of throw invuln, next frame. checks hitboxes, sees player 2's throw invuln, drops to 1 frame invuln, next frame. hitboxes, invuln, invuln to 0. works fine, but let's flip the players. updates player 1, drops throw invuln to 2 frames, updates player 2 and checks their hitboxes, sees they hit player 1 but they're throw invuln, and you might already see the issue. regardless of what the thrown invuln is tied to ( the wakeup animation itself, or some distinct hidden variable that updates separately from the animation ), when player 2's throw checks the hitboxes for its last active frame, player 1 ... isn't throw invuln. so they get grabbed, even though they _were_ throw invuln for all three actives frames like player 2 would be ... they just processed those three frames before player 2 did, leading them to functionally losing the third frame to the game's internal order of operations
if this seems like something that should seriously impact fighting games as a whole, well, it does. specifically, it impacts how they're _coded,_ exactly so nonsense like this can be minimized. you can't update both player's state truly simultaneously, but you can let them both advance to the next frame of their animation before you check for hitboxes, and you can do that hitboxes check for both before actually processing the consequences of those hitboxes, and you can defer any changes to a player's current animation ( i.e. putting them in a hit animation ) until just before you actually start rendering the frame for the players. this, i imagine, _is_ actually how hftf handles things, because it's not exactly new and had likely been used by capcom since sf2 because _not_ doing it can lead to a little major issue best described as "player 1 gets priority on every trade," but it's not foolproof. even within every step of the process, things are done sequentially, so if you update a player's invuln state as you're finishing up checking their hitboxes, then player 1 can end up ending their invulnerability right before player 2's hitboxes would check for it, and, well ...
video games are funny things, to make a long story short
Your next line is "1 minute and 2 views fell off"!
1 minute and 2 views fell off... hol' tf up-
NANI!? D:
I love these videos, to think we only have Midler, Iggy, Devo and Rubber Soul left.
I do wish he was a little bit better, but I suppose it does fit for old Joseph to be a character that requires a bit of brainwork to make the best use of.
Also Shadow Dio needs coverage
@@docthe10th He covered Shadow DIO with regular DIO unless I'm misremembering
I can't wait to see the fabled iggy or devo review, they're such strange characters they confuse and intruigue me
HE'S PULLING HIS CLACKERS OUT
21:00 Ayo, backshotting projectile? 👀
Bringing up some comparisons between ASB/ASBR and Heritage, the original ASB only had Young Joseph since he was his part's main Jojo. Old Joseph was dlc while and a starting character in ASBR, something i find funny thinking back on it lmao.
To get into some actual comparisons, I'd say Old Joseph in ASBR is more akin to a grappler, with three command grabs. An anti air, a hitgrab similar to Heritage, and a standard command grab. The hitgrab is a lot better since the followup actually does damage and can lead into a combo on hit. Since it also does a cinematic, he can sometimes ignore breakers or other assists if needed. Beyond that, he also has other basic system mechanics that Hamon characters have, despite being listed as a Stand style character. In particular, he can charge meter by holding style and use an EX version of one of his specials. He had a bit of a rough patch, but now I'd say Old Joseph is pretty good rn as far as characters go.
Young Joseph on the other hand is a lot more unique. He has a unique mechanic where he gets a buff to Hamon attacks whenever he lands one of his counters, one of which is the famous "Know your next line" which has him say a line from his opponent. This works on the entire cast excluding Wonder of U. Alongside that, his rekkas are back and they have a lot better follow ups, one of which has a counter followup. Ironically, I'd say Young Joseph is more like Josuke than he is Old Joseph, which makes sense but is funny to consider since hes less like himself and more like his future son that hasn't been born yet lmao
Nice observation, just wish Old and Young Joseph had more moves from this game like the 623X for OJ and the crossbow from YJ.
I wanna get into this game so bad to play Old Joseph, but my friends are really interested in this game ;~; Loved the video! Used to love watching people play this character so seeing your dissection was great!
Nice! I love playing Old Joseph. Thanks.
I wish passive stands (besides pet shop) were better. Being able to play young Joseph and not being blown out by the top tiers would be nice
Still the best JJBA fighting game to date!
Wow, I was already scrolling down when he said that Old Joseph is done and got pleasantly surprised when he continues with Cracker Volley character. Great vid!
Each Joseph is played with accuracy on the character lore
THE RUN CYCLE XD
"NIGERUNDAYOOO!!!"
Father, I crave more HFTF content
I've heard the different ports of this game are somewhat different but I've never known how. My first introduction to this game was the HD version on 360 and it feels the same as the arcade version from what I've played.
the PS1 version is probably the most different? the Dreamcast and the other ports of this game are basically just the arcade game
The thing about young joseph is that he tries to be setplay but fails at it through the game's mechanics. That's why i just play like a meth head and abuse the crap out of jc and raw rekka antiair. Speaking of which, a 1 hit rekka ender is actually untechable, and will give you a free aja on anyone who can't crouch.
👍
Wee needa see that Jotaro tutorial/info vid
Legit didn't realize you're in the jojos lobby from time to time. Great vids btw 👌
JoJo's Bizarre Fighting Archetypes
I didn't know nothing about about this game.
That has now changed.
Nice, I've been wainting for a video on joseph
Amazing video, HFTF really is an interesting game to hear about with all of the unique character dynamics
I wish Capcom get the rights from JoJo again, the game is a ton of fun but I think some characters deserve a buff considering the poor start up of some moves and the atrocious recovery on hit.
I wish I could say that experience made OldJo the better character, but it's absolutely the stand
10:54 just a note that its only the chained version of s6c thats plus enough to combo from, and yojohftf already adressed the yj side of things, otherwise great video!
Ok so what about S.Dio? The best “stand-less” character.
That's petshop
@@Josuemaneiros7 he is a bitch and a bird
I love your videos on this game so much. Always been the most fascinating FG that I dont play in my eyes and you break down some of the intricacies really well.
Surprisingly informative video. Well made!
I didn’t realize you had such good music taste
Politely waiting on the Midler video
Snake Jailbird: "oh no! BETT MIDLER!"
"Hey, i really like kars from part 2, can we add him into the game?"
"Nah, we can add only one part 2 character"
"So, no kars?"
"I never said that."
I main Joseph because I play Q in Third Strike
Great video - It's kinda weird to think that HFTF doesn't really have a grappler, with Old Joseph being the closest thing to that archetype. Definitely goes to show just how different this game is!
Kinda wanna see you talk about Iggy next - He's a very interesting case study.
Well if it joe hamon
Joseph theme is one of my favorites in the game think i gonna start practicing him now
No mention of OldSeph's Infinite Custom Combo bug which while you need to do a frame perfect normal input after the gauge runs out to begin, the bug can lead to numerous variations from doing a full loops of his basic CC combo over and over to looping standon 236x4 multiple times in a row. While the Jojoban wiki only really mentions this bug in passing I've seen a number of Japanese Oldseph players make the character look scary by turning any punish into a Massive Damage CC Loop. Also it's worth mentioning the quirkiness of OldSeph's Dash Normals still sending him forward when canceling out of his back run which is very silly but is also a decent way to convince your opponent that chasing you down when retreating isn't worth it. Otherwise this is a very comprehensive overview of Both Joesephs, Well Done!
Such an amazing video
You make some good videos man. When I watched the first couple it felt like 10 mins but the first one I watched was 40 mins
I like when he grap
Everybody be saying that Alessi never interacting with Joesph was mispotential when it just common sense that the cowardly Alessi would never take on the chance of making an old man more able bodied and Jotaro defeating him is more satisfying than Joesph because it’s punishes Alessi for taking on a perceive easy victory against a non stand user child. Sorry, I have to get it out of my system.
I mean, I can agree with you that it's more in line with his character, thus fitting better from a narrative perspective, but damn I still would have loved to have seen young Joseph return to kick Alessi's ass, even if only for a moment.
Really, just any excuse to give Joseph some more room to shine. He had his moment against Empress which was great, but that was about it. I know it wasn't his part anymore, and so Araki didn't want him taking centre stage over Jotaro, but that decision also got retroactively quashed when Jotaro ended up being thr vital lynch-pin of part 4.
I just love the concept of returning Jobro's of parts passed having moments to showcase their skills and experiences and why you don't mess with them, and I get a little sad that Joseph largely got relegated to comedic relief instead of the tactical genius that he was.
Been enjoying these Heritage to the Future videos although I've never tried to be competitive in them. It'd be cool to see videos dedicated to analysis of actual matches as well, me thinks.
He's a Whippler
why did i watch this entire video i dont even play this game
"This is my destiny!" Looking ah banner art.
I was hoping you'd do a video on the Joseph's, they're my favorite characters in HTFT, but holy shit they are bad. Never made a comment requesting them, so thanks for making my day.
Hamon BEAT
OH MY GOD
Ok but honestly thinking your read is gonna work only to get reversal supered by some crazy bullshit is exactly in character for joseph lmao 😅
Young Joseph has a cool backshot attack
I'm very curious on the reasoning behind moves in older games being minus on hit and then sometimes minus to the point where they get punished hard for it.
Funny thing on how in asbr the 2 josephs are pretty high on the tier list compared to hftf
Love these HFTF videos!!! ❤❤❤
I saw you in the darkstalkers lobby the other day
Old Joseph's tiny t rex arms bother me so much.
A not-so-well thought out idea: what if Young Joseph had access to EX moves?
Cool
2:48 Hey, I've seen this somewhere before! Dandy...
josby jerster
Also I didn't see mentioned that young Joseph has unblockable Aja setups if you snoop around to find out.
woah I didn't even think about him being the grappler lol
Hype
You are the goat. plss make a video about my main d'bo
have you thought of making videos like these for ASBR's roster?
This WHAT projectile?!
you forgot to mention that s.214X can trigger the oraoraora clash thing (not familiar with that much HFTF terms)
My favourite Engrish character HORRY SHEETT
Lowkey is
Is Oldseph jsut Slayer? I love both games and now thinkin about it… Comparing Strive Sslayer to Old Joseph… Its comin’ together, atleast for neutrals.
He has an 80k that's good enough for me
He an old man. Joesph can't run the way he use to 😢
does anyone know the font that is used in the thumbnail?
What is it with all my favorite characters being bottom tier in fighting games?
Fun Fact: Whamuu, Esidisi and Kars were all planned to be playable early in the development of Jojo's Venture/HFTF. There's concept art that exists for all three, but how they'd actually play is entirely unknown.
...Let alone how all three would even show up in the first place considering the events of Battle Tendency. Maybe that's why they were cut? Who knows.
