Chopping is a gift choppers chop natually but dont kid your self if you think chopping is for defense you are a loser. If you chop close to the table using a fast chops and attack any chance you get you will put so much pressure on the opponent after a couple off games most player start hitting the ball everywhere but on the table. Any chopper that runs from the table and play defense and never learns to attack you are wasting a special gift.

Wow, just wow!!! I don’t think I’ve seen Filus play this good in a very very long time. Lin was also playing great, apart from few shots in haste, I didn’t see him doing anything bad. It’s just that Filus had ascended to next level. I think Filus and the entire TT community is going to remember this moment and TT enthusiasts like me will discuss this match with our club mates in the coming days with awe and inspiration. Thank you Filus!!!
he remember me the time when he get in the 18 position on the ranking. He changed very deeply his playstyle. So good to watch him in this level

Arguably, Lin Yun-Ju was tired after lifting to many chops. I can't see the big difference between the sets except Lin missing more. Choppers are ander dog in the current meta of the game. I really happy to see one wins a tournament, more beating a top 6!!

Sorry that I didn’t know much about Filus before, but I was amazed by him today. As a defender, he also has great attacking skills. This makes it so interesting to watch him play!

How many times I have heard the defence is obsolete it is style for old people always in tournaments we are underdogs no one takes us seriously there, they are laughing at us, telling there is no chance for a success, the plastic ball destroyed defence table tennis because all of that thank you Ruwen you showed the world of table tennis how persistent and brave are defenders. Ruwen Filus level really High. It cannot be compared with 4-5 year ago. Maybe he still below Joo See Hyuk when his Prime, but no doubt, Filus is the best European Defender right now. Maybe he is the world best defender today
do not forget that JSH played with a ball that was defender friendly and much smaller in diameter and celluloid not plastic which made the ball rotate and spin way more than the current ball. The current ball is basically the largest obstacle in front of defenders to get to break top 20.

No more words to this match. Absolutely mesmerizing. It is a masterpiece of defending. Nearlly physical impossible to win against a top 10 player after being down 3:0. Quote on bet 365 was 101:1.01. Incredible. Just see this one time in my life

Wow, Ruwen is a monster! Such a comeback. It was probably one of the best games in 2022. Such an amazing clash of styles. Pure attacker vs modern defender. Silent assassin, I wish you best, this lost should make you only stronger! Who knows, may be playing in both doubles and single tournaments exhausted Lin Yun-Ju, we should take it into account as well.
Maybe - but, take into account that Filus is 13 years older and that his playstyle is much more exhausting as well ;).

But to be precise Lin Yun-Ju played not only in men's doubles, but also in mixed doubles. And he won in both of them.
That has nothing to do with Ruwen's victory. I totally respect him. He absolutely deserved this win, there are no excuses in sport.
All i'm trying to say that Lin played to many matches during this tournament (not twice, but thrice).
And you mentioned that "his playstyle is much more exhausting as well". Well, i think this statetement is quite contoversial;)
Lin played better than I thought. He is not great against defender previously, but this match he played much better.
Lin lost in an attrition war. He does not have the kind of stamina that can loop that many balls in a game. His strategy was right from the beginning, but he probably did not expect such a surprising comeback.
Ruwen is using his forehand a lot more now to great success.
He used to only chop forehand and backhand with occasional backhand loop.
He really mixed it up and took some big risks and it paid off.

I can't describe how happy I am that a defender won this tournament.
As an offensive player myself I really hope that young players are inspired by this performance to play defensively. Because we need diversity in this beautiful sport.
We all know, 40mm and then plastic killed the classic defender. Today we saw one example of how defensive strategy can survive in 21th century.

Ich sah Filus schon immer gerne zu. Sein unglaubliches Ballgefühl in der Defensive; sein Wechsel zwischen Verteidigung und Angriffsschlägen. Was er in diesem Finale zeigte, war das "SPIEL SEINES LEBENS."

Кто вспомнит с кем играл Лин, год-два назад, когда также кому-то проиграл, ведя с большим отрывом? Этот матч ещё потом кто-то из наших блогеров раскладывал и сказал, что у Лина с психикой проблемы - стопорится иногда сильно и не может дожать, особенно в самых важных матчах, как будто не может поверить в свой успех
Наверное, это была игра с Димой на Олимпиаде.
Только филус в перекруте и быстрых блоках основные очки набирал, а не как защитник. Как только пытался в защиту - сливал.

those twiddles by Ruwen Filus are just insane. Especially for that twiddles during the attacks by him. Sometimes, he twiddles twice in a single shot when he misjudge the ball.

He is just a machine. When you are loosing for 0:3 it is almost unbelievable to win the match but Filus... His character plus hard work was help him to destroy young opponent. Bravo!

Filus, конечно, молодец. Но думаю, что причина поражения Lin Yun-Ju в том, что на этом турнире он играл ещё в мужской паре и в миксте. В парах он всё выиграл, но дожать защитника в одиночном разряде парню просто не хватило сил.
Он и в прошлый раз проиграл Филусу. Видимо, ему просто сложно играть против него. Бывает.
The reason he lost is because the chopper put enough pressure on Lin to take him out off his game. And everyone who hits there shots with there paddle face closed and turn there body or hit from there elbow like everyone has been doing for years you can be alot better if you learn to hit all shots with there wrist. Lin like all power players hit by turning there body and swinging from there elbows can do much better. This is whats important in this game. Hit with your paddle face open go forward and up using the wrist and letting the rest off the body follow then you will reach your full potential. Think hit with paddle face open and use the wrist and you are on you way to being the best that you can be. Lin make most off the mistakes i just discribed. He hits all his shots with the paddle face slightly close to closed all the way and swings with his body on all his forhand shots. And that is just a bunch off bad habits that will keep playing bad. The game evolved wrong because people think hit by turning there body swinging like a maniac with there paddle face closed is the way to hit. If people thought hit with paddle face open the whole game would be much stronger. Lin lost because as good as people think the top player are they play a very weak game. That is why the game is more even now everyone is converting from the weak old style to learning to use the wrist. China was surprised when they came out a few weaks ago and got crushed and now are changing the way they think about the game. I have been telling anyone that will listen to hit with the paddle face open use the technic i discribed above and you will start to get better fast. Even the chinese were playing wrong and now everyone is trying to play right. The game will become much stronger and fun to watch. People are having a hard time because they play with the grip the americans used forever and that grip starts with the paddle face half closed and as soon as they turn there body or swing with there elbow it closes the rest off the way and then you will miss the ball alot and hit the side off the paddle. Now everyone is on the same page so if you practice right and learn good technic you dont have to be Chinese to win anyone can do it.

Он знал, что делает, и первые три партии всё делал абсолютно правильно. Но в четвёртой партии у него элементарно "закончился бензин", упала скорость и топспин с форхэнда перестал проходить. А то, что Filus для него безумно неудобный соперник, это и так понятно. На Тайване сейчас нет таких сильных защитников, не с кем тренироваться.

It was extremely entertaining to watch and the total views this video crushed anything that was even remotely close to any other video in this shortest time span. Many don't like Ruwen Filus because they don't consider him to be a 'true' defender, as he attacks too much. But the game has changed and it's very hard to win matches just being a traditional defender at this level. Defenders need to evolve like him and the stats speak for themselves, making Ruwen the most successful defender currently. I used to be a chopper as well but I changed my game and now I use my chops sparingly when the opponent is least expecting it. I win as many points with chops as I do with smashes.
He is my favorite defender because He attack often. And in my opinion the best defender, fun too watch
A modern defender is a attacker too.
I agree , only to wait for opponent fault is not a succesfull strategy. You have to create pressure sometimes and surprise with attacks.

Ruwen has played very good. Lin ist a little tiered because he plaed singel und doppel also. Against defender you need very good condition.

Скорее всего, так и было бы, находясь они в одинаковых формах. Видимо Филус был на пике, а Лин либо уставший или не совсем здоров физически, либо в психологической просадке был. Но в любом случае, болел за немца в этот раз, и был очень рад итогу. Хотя всегда ранее болел во всех матчах за Лина

@@john07ru Они уже очень сильно стандартизированы, и тот факт, что среди топ-игроков практически нет защитников, показывает, что у них нет особого преиумещства от шипов. Это такой миф теннисистов-неудачников, которые не умеют играть и любят винить других или внешние обстоятельства в своих неудачах. Кстати, у меня нет шипов.
