I was an Associates fan in the 80's & now I am in my mid 50's & still can not get enough of this sound. It was terrific hearing the complex chord breakdown which reminded me of one of my favorite composers (Jeff Lynne) who also uses odd chord combinations which adds fantastic layers to any track. The awesome & massivly complex bass line of Club Country has a beauty all of it's own, which I am still convinced it takes 12 fingers to play! Today Club Country is still in my top 5 favorite tracks of my life My God rest your gentle soul sir xxx
My favourite 80's song bar none...what energy , great memories of 1982 the totp performances and fantastic video including Whippets and the gorgeous Martha Ladly...
I bought Country Club on 15th April 2019 for 17 and half p - with a view to covering it - I do that sort of thing - and have been trying to figure what the hell it does - I even sent Mr Rankine a message asking for chords - then I find this vid - uploaded 4 days before I bought the record...!! Tales of the Unexpected!! Danny
@@deletebilderberg How do you know? On the inner sleeve of the sulk record it is written that Alan plays instruments and Michael the bass. And the way to play the bass really sounds like Mr. Dempsey (like in early cure songs in a way).
RIP Alan
Thanks for the music

Alans bass and guitar playing are fabulous…the Bass in Cub Country is so good
That was Michael Dempsey
On bass
Club Country...Brilliant Song.
One of my favourite songs and band after the fabulous bronski beat and the amazing communards thanks Billy for this amazing song 🎵 x
Cheers Alan, that again proves just how intricate music was then and not just fluff as some would have us believe.

Mixture of uk jazz funk and sparks
Really interesting - but no mention of Michael Dempsey's insanely brilliant bassline?!?
Alan played it, not Dempsey.

Always wanted to form an Associates tribute, but I'd only want to perform Club Country on repeat
Enjoyed this. Amazing song. Something a little John Barry-ish about the song here and there.
Jesus, he looks like a bus driver. Who’d have thought that 40 years ago (!) he was instrumental in one of the coolest bands of the 80’s?
Lotion Lotion, Calamine Lotion.
Definitely in my top 10 Associates tracks! I want the studio tales tho, don't really care for guitars :D
The chords are very "haunted house" in my opinion!
Nice to see how well Alan's looked after himself over the years.
What have you done, handsome.... just a suggestion, try pissing off.
