    I had a situation where my player died a stupid death. The rolled low on perception, I rolled a crit (max damage+rolled damage) with a swarm of insects and straight up killed the character (level 1 is ROUGH!).
    Luckily the party had paid for an experienced guide who was with them and I quickly made the call that the guide had an emergency scroll of revivify. Saved the character, campaign continues and now the players have basically decided that the guide is their favourite NPC.
    They now refer to him as archer dad and honestly he's one of the coolest characters I've got to play as a DM. Player deaths happen but stupid deaths are dumb and it's always better to do some hand waving for a better story. Also, he's keeping an account of resources they're using and going to get his cut of their reward.
    Plus the players have learned; they've stopped taking watches alone, they've learned to check an area before running into it (another player went down because they walked into a pond full of venomous snakes) and so everybody is having more fun because they get to play their characters becoming actual seasoned adventurers.

    My players had a choice of about 20 campaigns they could play for our in person game (I think it's finally OK to get back to in person with careful people). They picked Dungeons of Drakkenheim, and I'm glad they did. You guys produced a great product, and I can't wait to run them through it. Love the pop culture references as well (Octarine...Tarna :) ).

    This was an important thing to remember. When the party fails, that does not always mean death. Death should be a factor, but the story can also be enriched by failure such as the Ewok trap, QOT drink test, losing a bag of holding filled with gold, and/or having to serve the ones that conquered the party.

    Really great to listen too, kinda sad that my theory was now proven wrong but still really helpful and insightful. ((my theory was the demons are ALSO afraid of delrum and using the prime materal worlds as reserch testing grounds to try and figure out an answer before the delrum kills them, which is why so many demon lords were making a presents known oh well)

    Plugging the nighttwist monster from dungeon dad as another possibility for the corruption eating plant. Maybe it eats the corruption, but also anyone that comes within 5 miles of its song. Maybe it needs to be planted in the throne room portal after defeating the abomination on both sides or in the shard of the shattered pieces of the delerium heart.

    The gith could possibly be tied in as part of the events that brought elves to the world as sort of carry-on baggage in a way. not losing the extraplanar bit but removing the world-changing implications that multiple separate extraplanar races came from different parts of the multiverse

    If you printed lots of pages in a row on a laser printer and take a big sniff at the printer and the pages. That is a heavy ozone smell. This happens because the laser of the printer has enough energy to put several O2 moleculs into O3 moleculs

    Initially when my party met Lucretia I inadvertantly had her cast purge contamination on a PC who had level 2 and boils all over his skin, in an attempt to make them initially seem benevolent. I didn't realise sanctified characters couldn't cast these spells, didn't read the part where the spell fails. So I think I'm going to home rule that if you are sanctified casting these spells gives you exhaustion 1-3 levels depending on the spell that is cast as it should be extremely taxing.

    • @TristanSykes1994
      @TristanSykes1994 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There's actually no problem here. Purge contamination isn't in of itself a contaminated spell. If you reread all the spells and their descriptions, contaminated spells actually reference as such before their spell level.

    If I remember, her end goal is the world being converted to golden delerium, which will then end up being spread across the cosmos and save other worlds from unstable delerium when our planet inevitably blows up from being converted to delerium.
    I don’t see a lot of players going with that faction/ending, allowing the planet to be destroyed, on a maybe. But if she’s correct, it becomes more “do we sacrifice our planet to save others?”, which is a bit more of an interesting hook imo.

    1:17:20 why don't other nations invaded Drakkenheim? Because a meteor just destroyed his most valuable asset, there is not much to gain there. And there the years passed and then... Wow where did this purple rock come from? That destroyed city? Ohh now there a thing that is worth the effort!

    On the subject of integrating PCs of odd races into the setting, one of my players wanted to do a minotaur (from one of the Magic books, I think?) I said sure, and then considered that there are monster minotaurs in the city... well, I decided that they are the same race: born as "sentient" minotaurs, smaller and capable of being any alignment, but with a spark of rage within that if given in to too often or too long can lead to a transformation into a monstrous minotaur, which is not only bigger and stronger, but according to legend will not die of old age. So monstrous minotaurs are pretty rare, but it can naturally be a temptation for the elderly to allow that change in hopes of continued life. I figure the meteor hitting Drakkenheim caused any minotaurs living there at the time to undergo their transformation instantly. It'll be interesting when the PCs finally get far enough in to meet one.

    • @SmawCity
      @SmawCity 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would be careful with this, though. You really want to avoid making the monsters seem too sane or make the players feel bad for killing them. People have brought up doing the same thing for the ratlings with ratling player characters, and Monty has said that the danger comes from now having to consider whether or not you should kill the ratlings when that is not part of the conflict in the campaign at all. The ratlings (and similarly, the minotaurs bear some of these traits) are crazy, psychopathic, sadistic, and cannibalistic murderers who wouldn't think twice about eating a defenseless old person.
      So regarding what you are doing, it can work, but make sure to emphasize that these other minotaurs are horrible monsters that are far beyond redemption, and do not possess a moral compass.

    Hey guys. I just finally started running my campaign last week, and I got my Kickstarter package yesterday! One question I have (forgive me if you answer this elsewhere, feel free to direct me elsewhere) but I have checked the whole book and I can’t find anything about the Hooded Lanterns tarrifs. It’s mentioned in a random encounter that it’s half of all loot, and Ansom mentions waving it this once for saving Petra, but otherwise in the text it’s no where I would naturally come across it. Right now there’s no need for it to come up, but I want to include it so my group doesn’t just go for them as the clear good guys. I want a clear draw back for every faction and I feel the lack of money translates to the tariff. What do you recommend for the tariff?
