Picking up where I left off in the previous episode, I continue tackling the old paint on Little by Little, my 1979 Peterbilt 359 model. Using my Vevor metal polisher I managed to get the majority of the paint off the truck moving it one step closer to paint. I also give an update on the #IronDuke project.
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!

There are no boring TwinStix episodes! 👌
I second that motion… every video is very entertaining.
The mechanical episodes are fun to watch but watching someone sand a vehicle?? NAH, I have better things to do....
Marc, I'm a little concerned. Your description of the paint on the back of the sleeper, has thinking it could be Emron paint. If it is it's very hazardous to work with. When the shops work with it they wear a hazmat type suit, so no skin is exposed and they have an external air supply.
Ya got that right..if it is then maybe the person is in the wrong place
@@kenader9036 I think spraying Imron was the extremely toxic part - it could eat your skin. But once cured, sanding it off is apparently no worse than other paints…hopefully, for Mark’s sake. 👀
Your tenacity impresses me Mark. Love watching all the episodes, you show us ALL the steps a person would have to go through to create a gem like Little by Little. Your perseverance and hard work are a great example of what can be accomplished by keeping your eye on the goal and making steady day by day progress toward it. Thanks for taking us along!
Hey Mark, I'm here through the thick and thin. The body work and prep is the most important and the most time consuming.......lets get at it!
There's no boring Twin Sticks videos 😊
Hi Mark.
I'm in awe of what you do.
It's always a pleasure to watch every new episode.
Such a good job.
Hang in there.
It's worth it.
These trucks are so great.
Shout out from France.
Take care.
And don't forget, if you got it, a trucker brought it. 🚚
Mornin Mark, LBL is slowly making his way into the show ring, You have done an amazing job my friend. When you were talking about the patreon I would like to say something about it if I may. I am working for now but next year I will be retiring from trucking after 49 years and my wife and I decided that right now I can't afford to watch the patreon. But that is ok with me for right now because many of you people do support the patreon and yes you do make these video's possible for all of us, I would love to watch all of the episodes of the duke but I just keep up the best I can by watching updates and any information I can find on it. I myself spend every Thursday morning watching the new Twin stix video's and yes guys sometimes it is the highlight of my week, but because many of support the patreon you make it possible for guys like me to be able to watch the you tube video's, so Thank you guys from the guys like me that can't watch the patreon but we are still able to watch every Thursday morning to see how LBL and Snowman come back to life, and to all of you that do support my favourite channel, may all of you ride easy on life's highway. Thank's Mark have a great week say hello to Mrs. Twin stix for us.
Watching all the body work episodes really brings attention to just how much work goes into restoring these old trucks cosmetically
All the work is in the prep, keep up the hard work Mr. Mark.
We always use powder(soft media) blasting around Huck Bolts. It does not damage the bolt or the panels with 100% paint removal.
We soda blast the aluminum panels. Going to redo my 97 Peterbilt. I should record it for TH-cam
EXACTLY@@largesleepermadness6648
i personally love bodywork its super satisfying to see the outcome but also humbling and just a super sense of accomplishement knowing that you did the work if money where no object id have so many projects that i could fufill all my ocd/satisfactory needs building and completing personal and customer jobs but ya know life and big dreams and all conflict eachother alot
Good morning Mr. twin sticks, another enjoyable Thursday for us all, a new video! At almost 66 years old, I thought I was just about finished with finding people that inspired me on, but you have managed to do that I have committed before that you remind me of Korshak, who started work on Crazyhorse 75 years ago, watching you go around each one of those Huck boats at the end pretty much sums up the last six years you have worked on these trucks. Thank you for being there.
I saw a bare aluminum 359 long hood at Dirks a few years back. Was setting out front of there shop with a different restored 359. Looked pretty cool.
LBL coming along nicely 👍.
G’day mark I remember an old panel beater hear shrinking a dent from my 1968 holden hk kingswood door because a baby kangaroo head hit it and was a couple of inches deep and over a foot long, heat the metal with oxy and put wet rag on it to shrink the metal back, I hope this helps, keep up the great work
Can't wait to see her all done 👍
Love the over the top reference
Hey driver! As a truck driver myself I enjoy watching all your videos. Kind of reminds me of me and my dad working on our 1953 ford f100 truck before he got sick with cancer and had a stroke, dont have anyone to help me finish it...but watching your videos is always positive for me due to your hard work and determination. Thanks for all you do ! 10-4 I'm gone
Thank you very much it's been a blessing to watching you and gain knowledge too you're a blessing One Stop Tommy
Little by little is getting painted little by little and I'm definitely enjoying it 😂 you guessed it little by little !
I love watching you work on these old Semi Trucks. I never drove the big rigs myself but have always enjoyed driving down the hiway checking them out. Keep up the good job. I can't wait to see LBL all painted and trim out.
Love it wooooooo i appreciate the twinsticks garage family and the twinsticks garage channel ..❤️🇨🇦🇺🇸✝️
When it comes to that type of work you have to grin an bare it. I've done several vehicles in my life. But end the end it Will look great!!!
That is the big problem you always find another build, then u wish u have room. I know the feeling lol
I knew an old boy in Keremeos, BC that had a 1948 KW conventional that was all aluminum, including the cowl & roof cap. The frame rails, and the rear diff housings were also aluminum. The 3rd members were cast iron, but he had alloy pieces for those too. Interestingly, the fuel tanks were steel!
Up the good work I love I used to have a the twin stick I had I drove a Mac with three sticks I love things
Big Trouble in Little China, another one of my favorites. Awesome. Keep up the good work, that Pete is gonna look as good as Snowman. Over the Top is a good one too.
Hi Mark you certainly work very hard on getting thing's right, I got to admit when you did your close-up on the back of the sleeper pod it looked like a sort of filler and not paint but it has to be something I've never seen I've asked some friends hear in the uk that do truck repainting and convention on truck body work and they think it's a body filler with a type of fiberglass hardner with something mixed into it make it as hard as the rocks that could hit it, thank's for another great video.
Looking Great Mark. The Rubber Duck from Lima, Ohio checkin in. I suggest gittin a media blasting gun. Ive got one from Harbor Freight here in the states and the blasting media they sell is Walnut shells. Environmentally friendly and biodegradable and very easy to clean up. Just a suggestion ❤❤❤Another great video and great progress.
Mark, your doing a bang up job, just glad I’m not doing it. That’s no fun. Keep it up enjoy the episodes
I started watching when you had no shop and working out in the snow on Little By Little. It's going to look nice with a blue metallic.
Mark, look at it this way. You've stripped an entire truck! In 4 days! By yourself! In your garage!
Shops would take that long with all the gear. Youre doing fine and its going to turn out great.
Loads of work there mark , little by little would look fantastic a bright silver paint job
The judicious use of a heat gun would help in cleaning the huck bolts. You might also want to try a detail sander. Milwaukee makes one. The triangular sanding pad can get into tight spots.
Great progress, Mark. If you find that you cannot live with the flattened rivets or need to replace any of them, you can find them and the installation tools by looking up Buck Rivets (they most likely aren't Huck Bolts, which you'll find for the frame and structural attachments). You can find the anvils and the hammer, which goes in an air hammer, for not much money. The downside is that you'll need access to the back for the anvil. If you have to replace one where you can't get to the back, you can find blind rivets that you can use with a rivet head shaver...and that will leave a rounded head that will look almost identical.
U keep it up the wife and I love your work. We look forward 2 the next show..
Great job sir
Another top notch episode Mark! Really appreciate these kinds of videos, I’m currently restoring a 93 k100 and was going to send it away to get the body work/ paint done but you’ve given me the inspiration to want to tackle it and learn to do it myself. So i appreciate it and keep up the awesome videos!
All that sanding grinding is gonna make the end product so much better hang in there not missing those days
Trick to removing the paint around the hucks - after you have it sanded take a razor blade and shave the paint in a circle around the huck with the existing paint and it will come off in one piece, then take a nylon wire wheel in your drill and clean the little bit of primer that is left and it will save you hrs if not days and then you wont leave grinder marks in the aluminum. Hope that helps you out or helps someone out. That is a trick that we use and its way faster. Great build can't wait to see the progress.
Throw a coat of bedliner in under your front guards to prevent damaging your new paint from rocks in future…. Gday from Darwin, Oz
Always a treat to see what your up to.
I reckon you’d get 4 trucks in there use the centre door and put 2 side by side on each side of the shop. Especially if you put them in at an angle too😂 might get a bit tricky when it comes to doing the rubber duck tribute though
Been watching you work on snowman and lbl you sir are a class act keep on keeping on brother can't wait to see the next video
Looks awesome to me keep her up dude I'd love used to
Good work
Looking forward to seeing the 359 come back to life
Mark, I follow on patrion too. I know you really like the pork chop express. And I’m actually driving a cab over Freightliner eagle this week. But a Smokey and the bandit 2 GMC would be a far better next project . It would set your page alight too . Love all episodes mate. What ever direction you go. 👍🏻🚚
Soda blast it Mark. Prevents the truck waving as it goes by. Soda blast will make short work if that
They also did a cab over Freightliner in stainless and blue too.
Try Benco Industrial paint remover B15! It's the absolute best stuff I've ever used for stripping paint. We just did a 379 cab bunk and hood with less than a gallon and it's way cheaper than aircraft and works 100 times better! Just incase you do another one in the future.
Cool, this very practical sander. Congratulations on your top videos like I wish I was there working on this rough
So I got to thinking when I was watching the episode and I think you just need to have 2 or three buddies come over and you just have a big sanding party! Lol just thinking it might speed that process up for you! Great episode as always! Thank you for putting out this amazing videos every week!
That stainless pete truck is PA Langevin Transport from Carlton Place Ontario. Not far from Ottawa. They have some shows on TH-cam as well with a few different builds. I think through truckguystv. They have done a few trucks. Cabovers as well. Great episode again Mark.
Hellow buddy good luck
Hey Mark try cutting the abrasive section in the middle of the pad on your Milwaukee grinder out then sit it directly over the rivet so it’ll sand around the whole thing in one go and it’ll leave the rivet untouched 🤞🏻just a thought, keep up the great work cheers from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Been watching this restoration since day one. Admire your tenacity on LBL. She will be one fine looking old girl. Keep up the good work, Mark.
Good job
Hey Mark..you should check out the Scotch-Brite “Roloc” Pro Brake Hub cleaning disc’s..might work around those hucks..I really enjoy the show.!
Yeah I tried those on #ProjectSnowman and they work but also they wear down awfully fast
Yes sir the check is in the mail! I love that movie
With the amount of work and dust, I think I would have gone the dustless sandblasting process to get this project cleaned up! A few hours and it would have been all done and your shop and trucks wouldn’t look like they got snowed on! Way past the point to change the process now but if you plan to sand the Duke like this, I’d opt for the dustless sandblasting process instead. Just my two cents.
Looking good anyway Mark! Keep up the good work!
Yeah but a dustless blaster isn’t cheap 😬
Why do you blast off the dust with an air nozzle and not try vacuuming up the dust with a brush attachment. It seems like double work to you.
@@TwinStix Not buy the system, just have a guy who owns the system come and do it. I know the point is doing it all yourself but I think I’d draw the line at this one! 😉
Mark a small butane torch is all you need to heat it up with and then massage it back into place
Hi Mark. Enjoying all the episodes. A suggestion, when you pulled the bunk on LBL you commented about putting the bunk back in place without scratching the new paint. Could you paint the front of bunk and back of cab, put the bunk back on and then continue painting the rest of the truck.
Я з захопленням слідкую за вашим каналом. Дякую за вашу роботу!
You sure know how to make a truck look gooooooood!!!!!
It's getting there
Looking good!
You should use a bead blaster to take the paint off. You can even go over the rivets
Tried that with #ProjectSnowman and it created a ton of extra sanding to get it smooth again
If you keep grinding on it with that floor stripper it will finally come off. Your doing a great job. Skip to another panel and catch your breath then go back to it. Your working dilligenly.❤ l would gladly pay a little to see the Duke episodes but theres a budget conflict. I understand completely why you set it up that way. Much success❤
I did hear about guys coating the underside of fenders with truck bed liner. They claimed it prevent dents and chips from the underside. Not sure if it works but in the theory I guess it is possible. Any protection is better than nothing
Yeah I used that liner in a can stuff for #ProjectSnowman and will probably do the same here 🤔
Looking great
You should paint it just like SnowMan if you going to pull the trailer
My opinion is leave the interior just the way it is. You did a great job on it, so in joy it! It would also be great if you could install an exhaust fan with filters in one of the walls.
Get you a small hand held blaster for around your hucks
would be neat to see a custom grille from SH Tube
man , that polisher thing is gonna make that metal sooooo wavy ... you're gonna have a hell of a time getting that thing flat
Nah there’s no heat going into the metal as long as you don’t push to hard and keep moving
@@TwinStix it's not taking ANY metal off the body??
@@TwinStix i hope you're right , and i guess since you won't be priming and painting within the respray window you'll have to block sand all your primer anyway ... enjoying the content either way . good luck
Great job as alway. Hopefully you paint the frame the match truck like it was originally makes a big difference. And saying that why didn't you sandblast it from the portable sandblasting company
I love the flat black - simple to touch up 😂 and I did the sandblast thing on #ProjectSnowman and it created a ton of sanding work to get it smooth again
@@TwinStix I know but it just looks better if you paint the frame when you do flat black like I told you after armor all dirt and grime it turns brown and it looks like s*** you're doing all that work it's not going to cost you any extra to do with the car or whatever you decide to paint and it's going to 100% better if you're going through all this trouble might as well go all the way
Great progress mate I sanded my car project and that was alot of work and ur doing a semi dang that's alot of work
Just for fun maybe dolly out the dents / imperfections in those front fenders then polish up the aluminum. That would look great. For winter time paint up smaller stuff indoors with Rustoleum Gloss Black over the Rustoleum red oxide primer. Leave the truck final color till spring and focus on all of the other areas. The body work is critical to a good outcome. Look at videos for the Luna branded paint gun. Neat and cutting edge so they say.
Once you get the dings out of the front fenders and get the paint work done, would it be a good idea to coat the underside with a material like Line-X to keep rocks from dinging the fenders again? That is just something I was thinking might work.
Good work!
Keep it up!!! 👍
Blue truck white fenders and polished tanks and LBL is road and show ready
Always say anit but one way to do it and that's to do it at work and I'm their hero lol
Well done, mate, making paint removable (somewhat) entertaining.
Just a thought.. Maybe have another go with paint stripper around the hucks?
Little by Little looks like u have the plan to get the old paint-off. Be Cool to start seeing u work on Bandit Two.
Plan to pull the engine out before YE 👍
If u had the room would be cool to see the green goblin from maximum overdrive or even the 359 from duel
Coating might be an item called "Rock Guard".
Coming along nice. One question though. Why would you need to use an etching primer on a sanded aluminum substrate? Maybe I could learn something here….
Not sure 🤔 was always told you need to put etch on bare metal 1st then high build
Nothing you do is boring, but for us fans please consider full fenders for LBL especially after the beautiful upcoming paint job!!! Plus ole peterbilts look awesome with them!
Hey Mark, been a fan for a minute. But I’m curious as to why you didn’t use media blast. Plastic pellets, walnut shells, or the like? Love the show!
I can't believe u didn't move snowman out while u were sanding and blowing all that dust off that truck.
Ah it’s fine … a little dust never hurt anything and it’s already blown off
Could you put two extraction fans in the back wall to suck the paint fumes out while you have the garage door just cracked to allow a draft???
There's that dustless blasting isn't there, that seems to be less aggressive, if memory serves it's used with water mixed in with the blasting media but l could be wrong on that, but it sure looks like a great method on projects where care is needed.
Other than opening your overhead doors what type of exhaust or dust control do you have. Paint and body dust is extremely combustible and I notice you have gas fired overhead heaters. Just be extra careful when you spray….
I always blow out all the dust I can after I do work like this and don’t plan to paint until the spring when I no longer need the heater
Excellent, Being in the Fire Suppression business for 40 years I always get nervous about flammable dust and open heaters. It normally doesn’t end well.
The 389X has polished aluminum fenders.. that's an option maybe
That didn’t look like a whole hell of a lotta fun
You might want to try it aircraft paint stripper
BOA NOITE.
ESSE CAMINHÃO VAI DAR MAIS TRABALHO QUE OS OUTROS ,PORÉM DEPOIS QUE TERMINAR E SHOW
The white stuff you've been trying to chew through, might be a paint over truck bedliner..
Release all the Duke videos after it's completed in TH-cam in a playlist PLEASE
Big Trouble in Little China. Watched that movie last week 😂😂😂. Was wondering why you didn't consider sand blasting the truck? Separate the bunk and blast both. Too expensive I'm assuming? Or too aggressive or abrasive?
Blasting with a less agressive media like glass or nutshells is not a bad idea, Mark. You've got stamina, man. Cheers, Mark, you deserve it!
Tried that on #ProjectSnowman and it created a ton of additional sanding to get it smooth again
@@TwinStixhere in the UK when I was restoring classic cars we used plastic beads on aluminium cars, it didn't affect the aluminium in any way.
