To be honest, I think people underestimate what a shock of a win it kind of was. People were thinking Michael Keaton was going to win for Birdman and perhaps Eddie was shocked and never expected himself to win.
Probably the only oscar speech where the winner genuinely shows exactly how they feel inside. Everyone else just tries to hide it or downplay it when in reality they're absolutely chuffed

My father just died from ALS. I was cheering for Eddie Redmayne 7 years ago for winning Oscars portraying a person with ALS. Never in my wildest mind, who would have thought I will become a member of the family with an ALS patient. I came back to this, sobbing. It was a difficult road. Looking back to that time, I question myself, how am I still alive after going through that? The emotional torture was hell. It is still painful. I am still in pain, everytime I close my eyes, I can only hear and see his last dying breath. Anyway, The Theory of Everything is a magnificent movie. Eddie Redmayne is a legend.
So sorry for the loss of your dad. I believe he's in a better place free from pain. He will always be proud of you and I am sure he appreciates you for being there all through the journey and being strong as many people didn't have someone to hold their hands in their most challenging phase of their lives. Please take care of yourself now dear. Sending you Healing, Peace and Love.

My grandmother had ALS and it is a horrendous disease. This acceptance speech literally just made me cry. Eddie is so pure. His acting was phenomenal in this movie and I am so incredibly happy that he won an Oscar for his performance in this role. I was blown away. He had some stiff competition to be sure but Eddie definitely deserved this one

One of the best performances ever on film. Re-watch the scene where he's sees the pencil drop and imagines standing up and picking it and then snaps back into reality, having to answer a question about a god and the universe. His facial reactions in that 30 seconds is incredible.
He truly came upon that oscar honestly. He was phenomenal in that movie. His acting has such incredible depth and emotion. Bravo! Well done!!!

I cried intensively while watching the movie, l have 2 cousins with als disease. I lost one to a very young age and has witnessed other losing her walk, her speech even breathing. I witnessed her transition slowly from being a very strong, cheerfull, sportive child to somone who even cant cry. How it started and the day doctor declerated the disease. The way she looked at people when they walk or dance. A painful smile on her face. The movie reflects very well feeling, sarrow and challenges families and individuals face because of this cruel disease. Forever a pain in my heart💔
I saw the movie days ago and i cried so much. Eddie Redmaye was so good in it. He portrayed Stephen Hawkins with so much emotion and strengh. I highly recommend this movie.
His acting in the theory of everything was just brilliant. Superb. Couldn't imagine another actor that deserved that award that year.

When I saw him freaking out in the beginning of his speech, I almost cried with joy! He is got to be one of the most passionate, humble, talented, honest, kind, and absolutely adorable actor I have seen as a celebrity. His character is almost relatable because he is so outspoken and be his actions you can see how genuinely happy he is! I am immensely in love with this actor after watching numerous interviews of him acting rather shy in the limelight but when he speaks it sounds very poetic in the ears. He is one humble actor to cherish in the acting industry and he deserves so much more awards after that!

unfortunately there could only be one. it's amazing when we get so many good movies one year where it's really hard to tell who will win but it also sucks when we can't award them all

Eddie Redmayne received many accolades for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in this movie. He gave a brilliant performance that elevated the film & was perfect for the role. A real charmer of a film.
I saw Theory of everything at first time only yesterday. I can't stop thinking about this film. It's amazing. Eddie such a great actor. He has an unexplainable, unimaginable, colossal energetic and magnetism. And i understand how difficult was his work. The movements of fingers, lips, even eye's... fase expressions. It's phenomenal...
