rooted nooks are incredible. i still use my nook simple touch from 2012 as my primary ereader. if you manager your own local epub library instead of using a centralized store/platform like amazon kindle, rooted nooks are incredibly usable and versatile.
it is worth noting, if you plan to use a nook w/ barne and noble's store, anything from before 2013 loses support after June of this year. But if you're buying ebooks you can just get them directly from the publisher or author for the same price (or often cheaper), so i see little reason to buy into a single platform w/ DRM.
i can second this i have nook simple touch and its rooted and i got it for free cuz they stopped working in the uk :D
better yet: get a 7th gen kindle paperwhite for $20 and jailbreak it with KUAL, then use KOreader as your default reader.
Not advocating for Kindles but they support epub/pdfs now
I have a 200$ BOOX I've used for 2.5 years
James is like my dad. He makes me happy for a few minutes and then disappears for months 🥶🔥
Broooo 😂
💀💀
it s like buying some new toy then ignores you
lmao
Broo, he is ur dad, the dad u have in ur home is ur mom’s husband and not ur dad☠️
My mind and heart says Thinkpad, Sony and Nook but my budget says typewriter, dumb phone and paper
Ironically a working typewriter actually costs more than a used thinkpad. My t530 was 35$ and a working typewriter starts at 100~$
@@ocelotmadness6287 The other day I saw a basic electronic typewriter for less than 40€. Although I'm typing this in a 35€ thinkpad sl510, so you're right
If you really use typewriter, dump phone and paper, then you are smart; endif
@@ocelotmadness6287 no way u got a t530 for 35 bucks, its like 200 in australia
Mine just says esp32, 2.8 inch screen, hall effect sensor, arduino kit but my budget says 1 cent resistor or nothing
Thinkpad's are amazing. I once dropped a T420 on the floor and it hit a corner. The laptop took no damage. The floor however actually had a small dent.
T420 my beloved
ThinkPad the Nokia 3700

It's funny how everyone is trying to major in CS now, it's the reason the market is so saturated and there are 0 jobs out there.
@@YeetYeetYe ye you are one of them
@@daesk Nah, graduated a long time ago and have several years of experience.
OMG JAMES IS PUTTING HUMOR INTO HIS VIDEOS 😮
im tearing up... the cinematography and story-telling is truly soul-touching here..
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ! the content you create is unique.
as someone who constantly struggles with focusing on my studies and work, i learned so much from your videos! thank you for motivating me and many people who share the same problem. much appreciated!
every video you make is always at the right time for where i am in life it’s starting to get weird…. but thank you so much for the very helpful video james !!
I am not a computer science student nor looking for an everyday carry - this is one of my favorite videos I have seen recently. Thanks for the entertainment
ive been a longtime viewer and i just happen to be going into first year CS in the fall, great video and great edc!
gl!
i have been watching you for soooo long, like your study with me's helped me when I couldn't return to school with my peers during the pandemic. thank you so much for this video, I am trying to find something for my brother and you literally could not have shown up at a more opportune time
Bro, I just wanna say, I discovered this channel and you make some very relatable content. Love the videos man! Keep doing what you are doing!
thank u mr james for delivering the vid at the right time , i really needed that :')
i luv you so much i still keep watching your old vids
Hey James, I love your videos they help me a lot keep up with the good work man
thanks as always
my man always bringing up the best content thx James 😭❤ (started using arch a year ago thanks to you btw)
2:20 jesus christ wtf LMFAOO
thanks james! ur the one who got me into tech, thinkpads, and programming. i always thought that kinda stuff was nerdy, but because of you i realized how cool it is! (btw i just won my first hackathon at 14 years old) but yeah cool vid.
14?! bro i started too late its so joever
Absolutely loved this video on creating a productive tech setup for students on a budget! It's so inspiring to see how you can achieve so much with focus and the right tools. Finding a used ThinkPad and installing LineageOS on an older phone are genius hacks! This is definitely a video I'm recommending to all my friends #budgetfriendlytech #studentlife 💪📚💻
Best video I've ever seen, Man you are my inspiration.
man, james is such a resourceful person for posting this
Love this guy's videos so much just seeing his videos makes me happy.
Wow that cinematic was inspirational
I really like your vib. Sooooo cosy and very inspirating
I am getting an ideapad most probably but thinkpads are def a vibe. Watching you seems very original and it's always a great day when you post. Best of luck.
any lenovo brands let it not be thinkpad is shit
@@spfingg ok sir it might be shit for you
But it works for me 👍🏼
@@anjneyrai ig he saying abt newer ones
@@anjneyrai those who use thinkpads (i do use x13) are now basically stuck with old models because of the trackpoint/good keyboard (they made it even worse in new generation and comparable to generic laptops) - so not getting used to it might be a good think if you're doing some heavy stuff on it (but otherwise basic t480 will last you for a long time)
@@spfingg tru
saw your post about this in reddit excited for more
can you share the link to the post please good sir
Guess it's Everyday Carry week lol, good to see you back

Love the vid king ❤❤
you should definitely do a video about your reading habits
I discovered you recently and I've been studying rewatching your videos.. would love to see a live!!
This man is the reason why I like ThinkPads
Great video! Love this video format! Fedora and Linux Mint are also great beginner distros.
Great Video James! You forgot to add the link to the description, but nonetheless, its great! The thinkpad part made me laugh lol 😳

"budget" but opens with a shot of a $1500 eink monitor
Man I Love your videos.
I have a Galaxy watch 3 classic and a Galaxy watch 4.
I mostly use the 4 as a sleep tracker and the G3 classic during the day for the timer function to remind myself to stand up and move around and I have a protective case on it which makes it bulky, which is why I sleep with the G4 but I also like the interface on the G3 better.
They're relatively cheap, as far as smart watches go and with 2 watches and I can swap between them when they charge and can keep the battery between 35-85% or more to extend the battery life
I also have a $30 Casio solar watch if I just want to keep track of time without worrying about battery life or want something that I can shower/swim with or check the time if I wake up in the middle of the night and not fiddle with a smart watch.
Oh, and I have a $100 solar dress watch that I never wear as well.
I watched the video even though I’m not that interested in the topic , i just like seeing you talk ✨
Keep posting 💪
That cat absolutely loves you
Great Video James, love to see ur another content more. I used Kali Linux dual booted or sometimes using vmware installed on windows surprisingly it's great for me :)
LMAOoooo what a video, thanks for the upload!
as soon as i saw the linux laptop i knew you were real, that's how i got through my final year lol
Great video, I wish you all the best
I took your advice and bought that Nook Glowlight 4 eReader 6" 32GB BNRV1100. Can't wait to try it out.
Moondrop's Space Travel definitely tops the cheap TWS market where I'm from. It has ANC and great sound for only $20. I would also suggest getting yourself a very cheap 2-in-1 laptop and outsourcing everything to a home pc through a remote desktop app or simply having a pc and your phone who connects to it remotely.
The only drawbacks of this is the poor internet connection problem when it comes to classrooms buried deep within the building or schools located in bustling cities.
I would also suggest getting yourself an ESP32 to leech off single connection wifi and spread them for your other devices or friends. As it is also a general purpose microcontroller, you can upgrade it however you want such as making it a power bank, storage device, sim carrier loader as its own wifi and anything you can think of.
Hey James! This may not be relevant to your video, but I would like to give you my gratitude for being my rock during my last 2 years in university. Your videos were insightful and inspiring to have the mindset of striving for the betterment of oneself. I am proud to say that I have graduated in BS of Electronics Engineering 2 days ago! Thank you so much James! ❤
lol nice, the nook looks pretty sweet, thanks for the rec
he returned when the world needed him
The issue i have found with old thinkpads was the battery duration, those old cpu need a to be tuned very finely and often it is really hard to do this for the laptop to last a session of work, anyways it always warms my heart to see you James😊
I will enter yks in about 1 month and these will be gold infos for me for my computer engineering that I will plan to. Thank you very much.
Can't go wrong with a ThinkPad. I had one back when I was finishing up my Bachelor's in Computer Science.
I love that Sony Xperia of yours
Love watching ur videos❤
my man ! !
thanks for the video :)
im a 3rd year cs student who bought a thinkpad for myself for my birthday... thank you for validating my purchase :D
siick hope u enjoy it
I have completed my engineering and now i’m using thinkpad which my company provided, it’s really siickk😌 Also aren’t you planning to start study live anytime soon? 🤔
LOL. I am using Sony Xperia XZC as my daily driver and my laptop is THE Thinkpad, so seeing this video made me so happy.
Welcome back Jamess !! btw belated Happy Birthday ✨❤️
thank u!
appreciate the upload dude
Bro's so chilled🤙
hope you good james, nice vid
Sorry for the double comment James, but a good budget watch is the Casio Classic F91W, its not a "smart watch", as personally I don't see the need. But, It's really good bang for your buck and ive been using one for like 6 years with no issues! If you want something to listen to music, use as a watch and track runs, I use a iPod Nano 6th gen, they are worth like nothing where I am and I'm sure on the secondhand market they are very easy to find! Glad to see the video is in the description now, But as I said before, Great video. 😳 lol
first emotional james video pog
comedy segment was golden
Can you send the link to the unlisted video? It's not in the video description.
it drops tomorrow
he's cooking
It only drops tmrw if he finishes editing it😂. We all know James, it may drop tmrw or in a month we never know
yoo such a good video! thanks james
Hi brother, thank you for sharing this information with us
To those who want a thinkpad I would highly suggest the T480 variant because it has a internal and external battery which is pretty rare while having 2 ssd slots, 2 ram slots you can even upgrade its touchpad and and keyboard into a backlit one which is sick.
good to see you james!
babe wake up james just posted!
The decade old ThinkPad and Dell Latitudes literally lasted me from freshman year of college to until I got my first okay paying job when I could upgrade to something slightly newer.
For a cheap digital watch I can recommend Casio W-800h, it is not a smartwatch and if you don't need that functionality, it is a great pick. It has more functions than F91W and slightly more rugged, but still a light watch at ~35g. It is cheap I bought mine for 30$ and have been using it for almost 3 years now.
literal life saver, as a CS student looking for a laptop that can handle the workload, Im very grateful for this video! and happy to see, you uploaded!
The major reason I love ThinkPad is its keyboard. I threw away one fully damaged laptop but just kept it's motherboard and the KEYBOARD cus I love it
James is like santa claus. Only comes once a year 🥶🔥
Your study with me streams is what got me through my first two years of mid school I’m truly thankful for you and I’m sure your mom is proud seeing how her son have changed life’s of thousands with hes content , i just wanna ask will you do any study with me streams soon again ?
unlikely
I laughed hysterically when I found out that your e-reader isn't even sold in my country (and seeing the value on eBay), but seriously, your choices are modest.
It happened in my class that a student's laptop was "unusable" (long story short, rain doesn't go well with electronics). Our workaround was a rooted smartphone (Samsung J5), with a bluetooth keyboard and Termux.
Obs: 0:07 cute Mika waiting for more affection.
Hi James! Thank you for the amazing video as always:)
LETS GOOOO I LOVE WHEN YOU POST 🎉🎉
I never knew Thinkpads were so cheap.
Thanks for all the info
the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact look so good
With the way this video was titled, I thought you were discussing a budget firearm to carry lmao. That video would go hard
I just now saw that you uploaded, my boi i missed u. I have mac 2017 air, literally brand new cuz i take care of things, yet its lagging alot and turns off randomly when using. Now that you’ve talked about thinkpad i will consider it.
The legend is back🎉
whoaaa i planned to get that same phone and put lineage on it. i also like the design of it
2:04 bro gave his 100% for that cinematic shot
😂😂
my biggest role model rn
I also use LineageOS 21 on my Oneplus 8t. Way better software experience than stock and the upgrade span for some phones is just amazing 🙏🏼 Great video
For a watch, I'd recommend the fossil hybrid, specifically the Fossil Everett. It's an e-ink screen watch. Minimalist and you can control what notifications you receive.
Hey James, good video and great tech gadgets as always. I daily drive a T440 with LMDE and it runs flawlessly. I'm very happy with my ThinkPad. If you guys want to try another model, consider the X270 or T480; they have removable batteries and are built like a tank.
that was a very nice thinkpad poem
