    To be fair, before 1943 I think the UK would be a very fair contender for the biggest contributor. And even then, convoy protection in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and Arctic Ocean was very dependent on the Royal Navy (which singlehandedly (although US lend lease escorts) defeated both the Geman and Italian Navy).
    In the end maybe not the biggest contributor, but for the African and European theatre, a critical contributor.

    6:16 I think you could the case that Italy contributed the most to the downfall of Germany.
    By losing North Africa they essentially created another front to split German attention. At the first battle of El Alamein, Rommel’s advance was halted because the Italians could not deliver sufficient supplies. Then the panicked retreat of an Italian division led to the capture of a German signals company which was providing Rommel with key information from British radio communications.
    The inability of Italy to control the seas led to the Atlantic wall which resulted in Germany not being able to send most of their forces to the eastern front. Resistance in Italian occupied Yugoslavia and Greece necessitated German help.
    When the soviets counter attacked at Stalingrad the Italians and Romanians failed to hold the flanks which led to the German army’s encirclement. Then Italy’s early surrender significantly reduced the strength of forces on the eastern front.

They even knew the Nile poured out of a massive lake to the south.

      Yet they would probably have lost if britain didn't stay in the war. The UK had much a reason to accept a peace agreement with germany(considering the defeat of the french) Britain staying in the war eventually led to the German downfall. If britain and the USSR weren't fighting the same enemy. Why do lend lease. Plus the 3 front war would change to a single front war against USSR had britain surrendered/accept a peace deal
      However WW2 was also a combination of everyones effort against the germans. Resistance movements, Soviet and indian manpower, british resilience and intelligence and American industry and also man power(if America wanted to, it could have definitely brought hella lot more people to the war).

      @@-._A2._- Nobody is saying the USSR could have done it alone, that's not the question. You're completely changing the narrative that he's going for with your platitudes. The question here is ''who did the most''. And that's the Soviets. Of course that's the Soviets. You're just frankly delusional if you choose anyone else than the Soviets. 80% of all German casualties were against the Soviets!

    • @bigenglishmonkey
      @bigenglishmonkey 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@giantWario the very fact people defence for the USSR is how many people they lost says everything.
      the question was what how much did they do.
      the other defence is the percentage that died in the east, but 73% of german deaths was disease, infection, etc, and only 27% in direct combat.
      and the USSR only faced around 50% of the entire Wehrmacht of WW2, not the what? 90% some claim?

    • @giantWario
      @giantWario 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@bigenglishmonkey I really don't know where you got that 50% from but that's just blatantly false. 75 to 80% of the Wehrmacht were in the East at all time. Because obviously, how would the German lose 80% of their men in the East if they didn't have 80% of their men on the Eastern Front? Seriously, where did you get that number exactly?
      Being sent to the Western Front was like being sent on vacation for German soldiers. That tells you everything. And yes, while it definitely wasn't 73% (once again, no idea where you got those blatantly false numbers from) a lot of them died to diseases, infections and famine. *Just like every soldiers in every war ever fought!*
      And to turn this around for a bit, the fact that the USA fanboys always bring in the land-lease when the land-lease wasn't even 5% of all the USSR equipment says it all. For example, yes the US did sent 5000 tanks to the USSR. Meanwhile, the USSR built around *120 000* tanks in WW2. Yeah sorry but it really didn't make as big of an impact as you think.

    • @stafer3
      @stafer3 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@giantWario But you have to subtract Soviet help to Germans. If you send someone resources so they can build a tank, and then you blow up the tank, your net contribution to war effort is 0.
      They helped to defeat Poland, so German military was saved from additional casualties.
      They attacked Romania, Baltic states and Finland, which granted Germany more allies they would otherwise had.
      They completely screwed with UK naval blockade which was supposed to starve Germany of resources like oil, and cripple their economy. Just like in ww1. By supplying Germans, they kept them in fighting condition.
      They helped Germany to circumvent Versailles treaty restrictions on banned weapons, which they tested in Soviet union.
      Also ‘who did most casualties’ is pretty tricky metric. By that metric Ukraine currently did 100% war effort against Russia, which would completely disregarded the foreign aid, which keeps them alive.

    It's really ridiculous to not pick the Sovjet Union in this poll. The whole western world is just too much influenced by US propaganda through films and games. Quite obvious if you look at the poll in France in 1945 before all the propaganda started. All the "big" battles in the west like the invasion of Normandy and other famous ones pale in comparison to what was going on on the eastern front on a near daily basis from 1943 to 1945. It's just that no one ever makes a big flashy movie out of it.
