  • In 1958 I was a train spotter at Wakefield where the LNER Leeds London line passed over the LMS.
    This was at the 99 arches viaduct at Wakefield.
    Some of these steam engines are at York, at the National Railway Museum.
    I’ve seen most of the ‘streaks’ A4 class Pacifics passing over the 99 arches and have been on the footplate and cb of Wild Swan, invited by the engine driver at Doncaster.
    Join me on a tour of the National Railway Museum, where I remember a gear or two a long time ago ago where these great steam engines looked very different covered in soot and grime as they worked on the LNER and LMS.
