I hope they have a self cleaning roof (not too hard to install) with all those trees proximity to the house….the stone mason did a fabolous job.. gorgeous house❤
This is a great comment with wise insight. This simple yet elegant building is absolutely gorgeous in its bucolic setting but the viewer doesn’t get a feel for the labor and commitment involved in the upkeep of a home on an island in the Puget Sound. Don’t get me wrong- I’d live here in a heartbeat but this video shows the building in Summer light. The owner(s) will be looking out at leaden grey skies, listening to the wind and rain pounding those huge glass windows! That fireplace will be essential from Oct-May! I doubt this farm is close to a large grocery store either! How far will they need to drive to get groceries!? I hope Instacart and DoorDash are available there. That Island not only gets an average rainfall of 40” or more annually, it sits on the water near the Straights of Juan De Fuca and often gets battered by heavy winds. You cleverly allude to the daily upkeep in a home amongst the trees- they will constantly deposit debris on that roof, courtyard and pathways. Douglas Firs are better than many of the other conifer trees in the area but the owner will be constantly tracking in debris from that long pathway inside the home. Those floors will need a constant cleaning. Trust me - living amongst the trees on the Puget Sound is no picnic haha! My folks have a home amongst the tall trees in Gig Harbor, WA. Every single day pine needles have to be swept (or blown) off the mostly wet deck, driveway and their walkway into the home. The needles clog the gutters, the wet conditions for 9 months of the year brings moss and lichen onto the roof. Again- I’ll stress this is a beautiful home in a lovely setting, but my teenage boys will have that open space cluttered with clothes, shoes and “stuff” in 2 seconds flat! 😉
Whidbey Island is full. Stay in California. Buy up all the land in Montana. I hear they love out-of-staters. You cannot legally possess a latte on Whidbey Island. Wind storms! Power outages! No services! Just ....no.
The Whidbey Island Farm Retreat sounds like a truly stunning and thoughtful project
So much thought laced into this beautiful home 🫶
Nice design, nice details, well executed.
I would SO buy this! Maybe get caretakers from the local base for the farm, for when I'm elsewhere...
Gracias 🎉

I'm really drawn to the raw honesty of stone, glass and steel. And what's better than a low stone wall you can sit on or adorn with a potted fern?
Well done and a comforting home. I would build a similar home in the Fort Bragg area of Northern California. It would fit in very nicely. Thanks
A natural human narration would have been a nice compliment. :(

How many bird strikes on all those glass panels?
blah blah, it's a modern house. the end.
