From what I could find on the Chicago Park District's website, this statue was commissioned and dedicated the same year, 1918. The original, about 3 times the height of this one, was destroyed by fire shortly after the fair concluded. www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks-facilities/statue-republic
Appropriately, the statue stands on the site of the original World’s Fair Electricity Building, the place where Nikola Tesla first brought alternating current into the modern world.
The statue scared me too Tamela but maybe for another reason-I lived on the north side of Chicago and now and then I would have to visit my paternal grandmother who was scary to a young boy like myself. I always knew that when my dad turned into the corner of the park and I saw that statue, I would get very scared and homesick.
The current statue has been in Jackson Park since 1918. White City Amusement Park was, as you said, on King Dr., 2 miles west of Jackson Park. The centrpiece of the amusement park was its 200-foot tower.

In the mornings, with the sun glinting off that gold leaf, it's spectacular!
Is it possible it’s the exact same statue from the 1800s worlds fair?
No, it's a smaller replica, built in 1918 for the 25th Anniversary of the Columbian Exposition. The original was destroyed by fire after the fair.
Is it true it was built in 2 years ?
