    You advised me that I should join a studio and start my VFX journey, its been 5 months and I've learned a lot. From manual rotoscoping to 2D tracking, camera tracking, creating clean plates(in Nuke and in Photoshop), and matte painting, I'm familiar with compositing basics. Used Nuke for 2D and camera tracking but also used Boris Mocha for things that are in perspective and hard to track. I'm coming to the end of my course. Now I'm gonna attend a test for the studio. They'd test how I'd take a manual rotoscope. I'm a bit nervous about that.. I fear they'd not select me.
    I tried to bring an obj file directly into Nuke and tried to add textures but it didn't work out. My teacher told me that I need maps like normal, metallic, glossy, diffuse, and all so that the obj file looks nice. He didn't tell me to export in EXR sequences and use render passes like this. The course has 3d compositing which is left to be taught. Thanks for this .. now i know about render passes before they teach it in classes.
    I'm waiting for a video from you that shares tips to rotoscope properly and fast (manual). I know it would be worth waiting. I'll need your wishes for the exam.
    Thanks again!!!

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't, sorry. I always render my motion blur in 3D as it looks better and makes the comp less heavy. But all you should have to do is add a vector blur node, set the vector channel to the motion vectors and then increase the strength. I also usually set the drop down to uniform which makes it behave better

  • @hanafihikari

    1. I wonder if we could generate a 3D forensic scene reconstruction from the normal & position passes. This would be very awesome!
    2. If we could 2D paint each pass individually, can we generate a whole 3D scene in Nuke?

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use the normal and position to make a 3d point cloud, yes.
      I guess technically you could paint each pass but I don't think it would turn out how you're expecting. It's very complicated.

  • @nothingimageworks
    @nothingimageworks ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey. Loved this video. Two questions: Where did you get the "Exponential Glow" from? How do you use rendered lightgroups if you have rendered a Direct and indirect diffuse and glossy. Should I just use the lightgroups or is there a way to combine them or use the lightgroups as "controllers" for the previously named passes?

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Exponential glow is a third party gizmo. You can find versions of it all over nukepedia. It's much better than the in-built glow in nuke!
      For the direct and indirect channels, you need to multiply the colour over then, minus them from the main beauty and then do your tweaks and then plus them back on top

      Good textures is half the work. Find some good lens dirt textures (there's loads of free ones on textures.com etc) and then blur your footage by about 300 pixels and multiply it over the dirt. Hey, I have a little problem concerning color management
    In Blender, I use Filmic for View Transform (don't we all do that now ?), so the light and colors have a better look than using sRGB/standard.
    But when I import an EXR in Nuke, the colors are wrong. Wether the project is using default Nuke color management settings or OCIO/ACES, any LUT, anything really, I can't find a way to display an EXR properly (it's either to dark, or the the colors are off, or both), except by doing manual work that shouldn't be needed.
    I'm probably doing something wrong or thinking about it in a wrong way, but isn't it supposed to work this way ?
    Maybe I'm wrong on the Blender part.

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah I had this headache too before I started using aces. The thing is, Filmic only works in blender. Nuke doesn't have an equivelant. You can actually take the filmic ocio.config file and use it in nuke but I don't recommend that. It messes with other things like normal footage and creates other problems.
      The main thing to realise is filmic doesn't get baked into EXRs from blender. It's only a views transform in blender. It gets baked into things like jpgs and PNGs but linear EXRs don't take the filmic look with them when they get rendered. Which is why it looks very different in nuke :)

    • @Lanaur_
      @Lanaur_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlfieVaughan Yeah that's what I thought about it not being baked in EXRs, wich makes sense considering the nature of them. I hoped there was a way to have this type of view transform in Nuke, but apparently no. That's a bit of a shame but I guess I'll do manual work or do the compositing in Blender whenever possible. Thanks !

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can actually do it. You can set nuke to also view it in filmic like I said with the ocio file from blender. I just don't recommend it because it's not really meant to be used like that

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't say I've ever had an issue with that. It could possibly be a samples thing rather than resolution but I've rendered them at firstly low samples and not had issues too. Sometimes in the motion blur maybe...
      Occasionally if I'm using 2 cryptomatte alphas and masking one with the other or something then I'll have to use an erode to tweak the edge a little. That's the only time really

    I have no idea why my renders have a significant amount of noise even after iam employing a denoiser node during compositing in blender. Later when I import that to after effects, it's still does have noise in them. The denoiser works but not in taking out a good amount of noise. I gave 300 samples with 16 light bounces, my card is an rtx 2060.....any tips and advices brother???

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does it actually show it denoising the render in blender? When you're rendering does it says it's denoising the tiles at the top? It sounds like it's not actually doing it. Make sure you have it set to optix in the render settings instead of NLM and make sure you have denoising actually enabled for that render layer

    • @sahdsalmi3935
      @sahdsalmi3935 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlfieVaughan Yes, it does show!...I've been following your tutorials for sometime now!!! Everything is right just like you've mentioned. Denoising - render - optix, denoising data ON, @ view layer - denoising is checked with all input passes.
      NB: The advanced tab in denoiser @ render properties are in default settings
      Seed - 0
      Square samples unchecked
      Min light bounces - 0
      Min transparent bounces - 0
      Light threshold - 0.01
