As an online business owner, you're creating content, you're educating, teaching and in a way you're coaching, even if it's through a TH-cam video or a podcast or a blog post.
Direct, one on one coaching is actually one of the most powerful services or products you could offer your customers online. It's not the most scalable because it's limited to your time, but it's powerful in that the return of investment for your student is immensely high, because what could be more powerful and valuable to give than your undivided attention to that one person?
Whatever role coaching has in your online business, you need to know how to coach. And I gotta tell you, coaching is a lot more than just giving advice. There's so much more that goes into powerful life changing coaching, no matter what your niche is.
And so what I want to do in today's episode is share with you five specific traits that are so critical to making a deep impact with your clients through your coaching.
    In this episode you'll learn:
    - What the real difference is between good advice and life changing coaching
    - How my views on coaching has changed over the years and why I continue to seek coaching myself
    - How to know when you're making an impact with your clients through your coaching
    Hope you enjoy!
    - Graham

It may be kind of weird, but I learned how to coach through tarot cards. I found that while some readings are just silly and fun (who is my soulmate, what will this new moon bring me), people will make very strong associations to the imagery and symbolism, and it is an excellent way to guide conversation. I was a 1:1 and group theatre instructor and vocal coach in high school and college, created curriculum for and taught undergraduate courses in film studies and have been a tutor for essay and creative writing. I realized doing tarot readings for my friends and family that it was less a predictive method in my hands and more a way to facilitate powerful breakthroughs. Whatever you believe about them, as psychological tools and icebreakers, to me, they are invaluable.

Because of you I got my 1st 4 coaching students! I’ve made over 5k because of it and I am about to launch another round. Hearing this NOW I know I have to leave more room to let my students come up with answers themselves. I need to just show up and not feel the pressure to deliver content to them. This is a timely video even if I am just finding it 9mos later!

Hi. I do business growth/faith coaching 1 on 1. Came across your video because I wanted to research ways to become a better coach. My mindset is purpose > profits and I love how you emphasized LIVE AND GIVE 😊. Something I can tap into more now that you mentioned it is challenging their thinking… Thanks for the video. Very appreciated 😊

The last two points was a revelation for me because I err towards feeling like I need to provide more and more content, rather than allowing them space for their own insights. Thanks a million.

Thank you so much Graham! I watch all your videos, they are SO valuable and helpful. I have my very first coaching client tomorrow. I took notes from today's video and will definitely be applying them tomorrow! I created a free 30 minute call, so no paid clients yet but hopefully in the near future I will. Thanks again for all of your wisdom and insight!

This was so awesome Graham! Thanks so much! Took lots of notes. I really loved- and used #3- on our last coaching call, I asked her about her progress over the past week- and she did so well! I started a "star system"- she got 7 stars! I was so happy for her and she was shocked at first because she thought she hadn't accomplished much. We all need so much encouragement! Never take it for granted!

    Thanks Graham, great stuff again.
I have been teaching trombone (and occasionally other brass instruments) full time for almost 20 years. When I studied (yes, a degree just about teaching an instrument) academically the professors were all about planning - to the extent that they wanted us to predict the mistakes the students were going to make and be ready to fix that problem - nothing about being in the room and reacting to the students needs on the day! I knew then that this was rubbish.
These five things are spot on and what I instinctively do. But you managed to articulate it so well. I especially love the part about letting them find their own insights - it doesn't happen very often, but when it does it's always such an amazing moment in my students' musical lives - and mine too.

Interesting. I've only done a little coaching, and tend to approach it somewhat like you've described here. I was feeling I should have a more structured approach with planned steps and objectives, yet you're suggesting I stay loose and responsive to the needs of the client in each session. From what you've said here, the part I can do better at is to help my clients see how far they've already come to give them a stronger confidence boost. $50,000 for a full year of coaching may seem like a lot to many, yet I do see how it can be reasonable in the right circumstances. In that situation, how often would the coaching session be? Weekly, bi-weekly, or as needed? And if as needed, would you place a limit on the number of sessions in a given month?

what do you think about coaching through TikTok, I don't have a TH-cam channel or podcast, and I'm just barely making my course which is almost done and i have a lead magnet trying to get ready for email sequence marketing, (first need emails). I'm in the personal credit repair business/ business funding educator.

There are many coaches and youtubers that use a big part of the program talking about themselves. Losing time , instead of going to the point and explain the title of the video or course.
