  • Being able to think like an engineer helps you collaborate with developers more effectively, design UIs that make sense, and empowers you to build your ideas with AI tools like v0, Claude, etc.
So this video is going to break down a few traits of designers who I believe are already doing this at a high level.
    It includes insights from:
Mariana Castilho (www.dive.club/...) (designer at Vercel/Pierre)
Julius Tarng (www.dive.club/...) (prev engineering at Linear)
Meng To (www.dive.club/...) (Founder of Design+Code)
Dive is where the best designers never stop learning 🤿

Love the message of this video. I wholeheartedly agree. I've been doing this most of my career with the good fortune to have started designing and building websites back in the naughties. It gave me the appreciation of code and how designs and code coexist in the product development lifecycle.

If you think about it, "design" is an extremely general term that usually means 2 things- design as a visual pattern/aesthetic or design for utility or "purpose". UI vs UX in a nutshell. The second definition is actually not even unique to UX, it has existed since the beginning of industry in the world of engineering.
Bridges are "designed", aircrafts are "designed", weapons are "designed" and all of these examples are designed by engineers or architects who have very technical skills.
